BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

Not sure which of the 5 D you want to be sit because Switzer was by far the weakest D man on the ice last night. He deserved a shot and MacLeod deserved to sit, but Shane had a very poor game. I'd expect to see Diffley out there tonight.

Edit: And the lines are released and MacLeod is in for Switzer. What the hell do I know.

Me either...lol

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

I don't think he had his best game but didn't see him making any egregious mistakes...you know like turning over pucks for 2 on 1's and breakaways. I guess we just judge things differently..I do agree Diffley should be in the line up..I actually thought BU played its best hockey with both Diffley and Switzer in the line up

Switzer was out of place in his own zone while starting the breakout multiple times, he dropped the puck to no one on multiple occasions that nearly led to defensive zone turnovers, was a total non-factor on offense, and took a dumb penalty. He deserved the shot, but was most definitely the weakest D on the ice. I have no idea what Diffley has been performing like in practice but I'm surprised he doesn't get a shot tonight. BU has not played its best hockey with both Diffley and Switzer in. Union torched both of them on multiple occasions.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

First round draft pick Bellows is a scratch tonight.

I hate to speculate, but one has to wonder if he is going to explore options after the season. Not so much from a "I'm getting screwed by the BU coaching staff" but more from the "I need to change something up because this path is not working" (see AJ Greer). I hope that isn't the case, because I think he has potential. And I know DQ commented earlier in the season that it isn't for a lack of effort and dedication - just not clicking for him at this level yet.

I prefer nearly led to turnovers over actual turnovers..Fabbro was brutal last night...multiple turnovers and on the ice for 3 goals against..also added zero offense

Now you are just being a hater...a dumb penalty is smoking someone with 3 minutes left in the game down by 3 goals?..a dumb penalty to me is hooking someone down to the ice after you cheated up the ice and left your partner out to dry...1-0 Merrimack in a game you are controlling...Union torched him?...lmfao...in the locker room?...you clearly have an axe to grind

Especially if his buddy keller leaves

A lot of times you see guys come back from wjc and turn it up a notch. Doesn't seem like that has happened for bellows.

He seemed to play really well against the best competition in the world. But he can't play at BU. Seems like a coaching problem to me.

That 2nd Lowell goal would be what getting torched looks like...must be in for his offense

This group of forwards have zero chemistry. When was the last time they made two passes that resulted in a goal?

Bellows is gone. I hope he makes it to the end of the season.

Great game for the big O tonight. Without him they lose 5-2. He was the #1 star.

Oh, and I'd love to see Greenway give a chit again. Hopefully by the 6th.

BU Hockey: Great uni's though.

Let's not forget this was their sixth game in 12 days. These guys looked totally gassed.

I actually thought his play at the WJCs was overrated. His 2 goal game was huge, but he didn't do much else besides that. I was happy for him, but didn't think he was necessarily going to be a completely changed player.

And one of those two goals was off his ***. Just sayin'

If memories serves Jack Parker benched a very talented young player who in Parker's mind not playing up to his potential and who later went on win both the Hobey Baker and NHL Calder trophies. Chris Drury's father drove up from Conn. to console his son who had never been benched before. The rest is history.

Re: BU 2016-17 Season Thread I: The Kids are Alright

OK - I guess someone has to be the bad guy, so I'll oblige. I just feel as though this has to be said. Everyone was all giddy because we swept BC. Did anyone notice what I did when watching them, however? It's not as though we blew them out or anything. And BC dominated the territorial play for large portions of both games, especially in the third periods. If they don't miss the net from nearly point blank range about 50 times, THEY sweep. Secondly, we are still "unproven" against the top teams. I don't care if it was "early in the year." As we know, with the PWR, all the games count equally.
I noticed. Terriers don't scare me, but youse guys still won. At some point BC has to turn the corner and put those pucks in the net. They sucked it up big time last night and may have turned that corner. Looking forward to the Beanpot. Will be a doozie of a game! :)

Agree, he played better than he has here but his two goals weren't entirely representative of his overall level of play. I hope he can find his groove because both Curry and Cloonan are not ideal for the top line wing spot alongside JFK and Bobo/Harper. Both are much better suited for the third line and have excelled in that role.

I'll give in a bit on not benching one of the D - Fabbro has really looked out of sorts for the past couple of weeks. Twice this weekend a forward scored on a PP where Fabbro went to block a shot but ended up in no-mans land where he almost completely screened Jake and didn't block the shot. His offense has taken a step back as well. I'm no coach and for all we know he could be nursing an unreported injury, but perhaps a game off could be helpful to recalibrate him a bit. But pulling any of the other four of top five D out of the line up is absurd.

18yo dmen make mistakes. bigly. nothing to be concerned with. everyone there remembers jvr using the shattenkirk turnstile to score. just comes with the package.
