BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

So nothing has changed? Too many penalties and a terrible power play? Every night BU makes a different goalie look like the best in the country?

PP needs work for sure. The kid in net for X made some really nice stops, though. We had some chances that were either whiffed or didn't get good wood on it, but the 45+ shots were for the most part pretty good. Not a bad effort, certainly not disastrous. The defensive side looked pretty good, but there are certainly things that need some work. I wouldn't call it an "ugly" win. Very chippy and the first two periods were chock full of penalties, mostly warranted. They'll probably get manhandled by BC tomorrow, but BC is also better, and it's a day game after a night game.

Also, first time watching on Terrier TV or whatever, that video quality is garbage, and the cameraman is horrendous. Can't they find a way to put the PP clock in the window? It's 2013, that's not rocket science.

How in the world did Moscatel not get tossed for taking off his helmet?

Apparently dropped his gloves too. Video feed didn't show the incident or anything that happened after. The announcers thought for sure he was being tossed.

Best part of the evening: climbing the stars as the starting lineups were being announced and thinking, "That sounds a lot like Jim Pryor". .... AND IT WAS!!!!!
That's great to hear.

Cool Tweet from Buccigross

@Buccigross: Hockey is easy for former BU Terrier Alex Chiasson. 9 NHL games, 8 goals. Another one tonight for Dallas #cawlidgehawkey #jackeffinparker

Dallas Morning News:

CHIASSON is the first player in the NHL to score eight or more goals through his first nine games since the 1992-93 season (Rob Gaudreau – nine goals) and just the seventh player since the start of the 1983-84 season, per Elias Sports Bureau.

The only other active NHLer to score eight goals in his first nine games besides CHIASSON is Teemu Selanne (ANA).

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Did I just see a reference to the great Providence College Friar Rob Gaudreau on the BU board?

If Chiasson has the career track that Rob had..he will be out of the league by 2015-2016 ;-)

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

Other observations, after my short post last night about the return of the great Jim Pryor.

1. BU dominated territorially from the start but that quickly led to lackluster play on both sides.
2. Somersby clearly looks like he belongs.
3. Baillargeon skated with O'Reagan and Rodriguez on the first line and can get around the rink, as they say, though I'll have to see a lot more of him and the rest of the freshman (other than Somersby) before reckoning what they can contribute.
4. Most improved returning player was MacGregor, who handled the puck very well.
5. The PP units struggled. (Rodriguez was on the right point in one configuration.) Poor movement without the puck. Holding on to the puck too long. And the passing itself was sketchy. I hope it's just an early-in-the-season effect.
6. For all of that, this should be an interesting team to watch. I like the fact that they are picked to finish middle of the pack. Less pressure on them. I think they could surprise.

PS Unless the X goalie stands on his head, BC will smoke this team. I wouldn't make much of comparative scores, though. The Eagles didn't play yesterday, and visiting Canadian teams always seem to struggle on the second day.

When are they doing the number retiring ceremony for Jack Parker? Or did it already happen?

Dallas Morning News:

Makes me laugh when people think the coach's offensive system wasn't the problem. Chiasson and Coyle couldn't crack the top 500 in HE scoring, yet they kick butt in the NHL? One has to wonder how many other players were doomed by the constipated offense.

To be fair Chiasson was 3rd in Hockey East in PPG his last season and has just 14 goals in 66 AHL games to go with his 8 goals in 9 NHL games.

Clearly the Stars AHL coach has lost it ;)

Re: BU 2013 Offseason Thread - Bring on the Mighty Quinn

NBCSN will televise at least five Hockey East games this season, with three involving BU: 11/2 North Dakota; 1/31 @UMass; 2/24 @UNH. No mention whether NBCSN will again air the HE playoffs.

If I'm going to watch 6th place hockey this year I'd prefer to do it while eating much improved hot dogs and pizza. Can you help me out HAA ?

There were fresh chopped onions there on Saturday night... But I saw them after having ordered something other than a hot dog .... If there are onions again this weekend I will test the dogs and give a report.

RoughEmUp..... Did you try a dog last weekend?

I had two HDBs. They were definitely improved, but still lacking. It appears they ditched the boxes in favor of wrapping them in wax paper. That made me wonder if the dogs might be something other than Nathan's, but they are still the same Nathan's All Beef. Buns were less stale than usual, but actual hot dog was still a tepid, wrinkled disappointment.
Why can't they just put the dogs on those roller/grill things and serve them directly from there? Why can't they throw a jar of brown mustard on the counter? Is sauerkraut too much to ask? WHYYYYY????!?

Just got myself all worked up again.
