Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

much like if belushi lives there is no "blues brothers 2000", if he did ghostbusters there is no gb3!!!

I dunno. Did you see Eddie Murphy's Rolling Stone interview? Basically: "No way I'm doing this movie, this script is crap, wait HOW MUCH did you say the paycheck is?!?" Belushi lives, you might be looking at "Animal House 2000."

they would have come up with something for him to do better than that. belushi had range.

eddie can play a cop, and a donkey. no matter how good the writting, you can't stretch that out.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I would like to say that BC fans ought to be careful about how confident they are. A loss vs Umass and last minute win against NU are nothing to be proud of. If they want to, they can cite how BU sucks right now, but that doesn't change that they have played some very tenuous games against some mid-level teams. Wins are wins and a 1 goal win is technically the same as a 3 goal win, but I'd be uneasy with the last few games if I were BC. Now let's see the BC fans cite all the evidence showing how awesome they are. BU fans know this season isn't going that well for us, we don't need BC fans to tell us that thanks.

Why are you obsessing about BC fans when you were responding to mookie (BU fan) and at the time you posted, no BC fan had said anything about either game tonight? Preemptive strike?

My guess is you haven't seen BC at all this year, but at least you know what a box score is. That's a start. Anyway, 9-2 is 9-2. So is 3-4-1. You play who's on the schedule and the objective is to win. So while you might not be impressed by BC (nobody cares), they're off to their best start since 2002. In the end, it doesn't mean a hill of beans, but...just saying.

BU nearly beat arguably the best team in HE and BC barely beat an average NU team. Has the makings for a good game on Sunday (a game you guys could surely use).

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Two things that confirmed my beliefs about this year's BU team after tonights game.

1. They have enough talent to go toe to toe with the top teams in D1.
2. They love to go into screen saver mode when they think the game is won.

Which means he could cleary handle a donkey cop or donkey US Marshall role...I get so irritated when people sell him short;)

and, and....."if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you want" should be etched in stone somewhere

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Glad to see that the boys put in a better effort last night. I haven't checked the polls lately, but is there a reason Merrimack shouldn't be #1 in the country? Other than the bias that goes something like this: "Yeah, but it's Merrimack, they can't be the best team in the country".

I have to agree with Old Timer - I think Sunday's game could get ugly. If the game were at Agganis, I'd give BU a 50-50 shot. But playing on the road, I envision the type of 6-1 pasting that we've had to see too often over there.

I hope I am wrong.

i agree with you about Mack but if BU wins sunday i don't see how they can avoid putting Mack at #1.......... I see another typical BC-BU close , hard fought game on sunday. the only game i can recall that was similar to what you say is the 2007 game 6-2, Gerbe's hat trick. In fact, and i just did a little research, since the 2005-2006 season they have played 8 times in Conte with BU holding a 4-3-1 edge

BUT...this BU team is perhaps the worst version I've seen in about 10 years. Not the worst in talent. The worst in overall outcome/performance in light of the talent. I expect BC to win by at least 3. Something in the 6-7 to 2 range. They did play better last night, but MC took a lot of bad penalties so the shot total is misleading...and they still managed to lose. That last call that gave MC the equalizer was total BS...but what can you do? BU had PLENTY of chances and couldn't convert.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Its early but we have to start considering how Coyle rates as one of the biggest busts ever at BU based on his recruited status. Not only is he a dog but he is dumb dog out there.

When you start being encouraged that you almost beat Merrimack at home, you know how far the program has fallen under Parkers "leadership".

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Ok. Is mookie a BC fan? I can't event tell anymore with how BU fans are jumping off the boat. I would like to say that BC fans ought to be careful about how confident they are. Awesome points.
I'm as ascared as anything for Sunday's game.
Terriers are very good on our ice.
BC having HUGE troubles scoring recently.
Maybe I'll just stay home.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Now that my coffee is kicked in I can say I thought the team played pretty well last night. The PP was bad based on conversion %, but they were holding the puck in the zone and shooting. The shots were of OK quality and the MC goalie came up huge. Great college hockey game...that said it's sooo hard to watch BU lose again at home to a program they used to dominate.

That's what you all say! ;-)

fact is i'm so old (though still young and handsome compared to other posters here :D ) that bc wasn't the stiff competitor to harvard then that it is now! bc and bu were fine safety schools for me when i didn't get into that ivy that accepted yankeefan.

You're not alone; lot of schools saying that the last year and a half. I think it's great for HEA that MC has stepped it up, just as long as it's not against you. ;)

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

A lot of sandbagging going on here. If BU plays like they did last night, i'd anticipate a good, close game.

As for why MC isn't #1, not sure where they started the year, but they played some real cupcake non conference games.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

is there a better american made movie than "the blues brothers"? (that was a rhetorical question)

Was the day we moved to Agganis the same day that ended the team skating out of the tunnel to the music from the Blues Brothers?

And when did we switch to wearing the helmets during warmups? (Sometime last year I believe?)

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

- Agree there is a lot of sandbagging going on (either that or a lot of chicken littles on here).

- I liked the poise and effort displayed by the team last night. If they can play like that each week, we will start putting some in the "W" column.

- The comment below about the power play being bad by the nubmers but looking better is spot on. From the interviews, it sounds as if they made some changes over the week which is a good thing. I liked the movement I saw but would like to see more of the quick strike passes (espicaly setting up the skater on the back door) during the power play, hopefully that will come. Two issues that did stand out to me were the ability to finish, and the points keeping the puck in the zone.... unfortunatley these are not so much "system" issues as they are on the players.

- I can't say I was overly impressed with Merrimack as a whole. I was, however, hugely impressed with Cannata. For sure that could have been a 4-1 game at the end of the 2nd.

- The way we lost was a major buzzkill.

- I anticipate another good effort on Sunday and a game that could go either way.
