It was from someone who listened to the end of the radio broadcast. Did it actually happen? No idea. That's why I said apparently. Certainly not a big deal here.

That's OK, JD. We're used to seeing misinformation posted on this thread, much of it intentional.

SCHEDULE UPDATE

Lucia said he is happy North Dakota is playing the Gophers at Mariucci Arena. The Gophers have played nine of the last 11 games in the series at the Ralph. That's partly because Minnesota had to travel there for a three-game, first round WCHA playoff series at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Lucia said he hopes to play North Dakota when the Gophers join the Big Ten Conference in 2014-15 and the Fighting Sioux become members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. But how often will depend on how many conference games the NCHC will play. The new conference could play up to 28 league games, he said, leaving room to schedule only six nonconference games.

He said the Gophers and the Fighting Sioux would play at Mariucci one year and at the Ralph the other in any scheduling arrangement they make after they are in different conferences.

Boston College coach Jerry York e-mailed Lucia about a fourth-year scheduling agreement. One year, the Gophers would head East and play Boston College and Boston University the same weekend, Lucia said, the next year, Boston College would play at Mariucci, then the Gophers would play at BU and BC and, in the fourth year, BU would visit the Gophers.
Lucia said the Gophers and Notre Dame have discussed playing each other, too. The Irish and Gophers*play one game, the U.S. Hall of Fame Game, in early January this season.

Would be a nice OOC situation.

Interesting, just when Hockey East is going to free up some of their OOC schedule, by reducing the number of conference games, one of the other conferences may be going to 28 games... I wonder how many games the Big10 will play... it could be that while Hockey East now has plenty of space for OOC, some of the other big teams may not due to their new conference schedules.

Certainly sounds as if York/Parker talk about these potential scheduling opportunities...

Personally, I would love to see the Gophers schedule BU and BC more often. Fan the flames of a once great Minnesota/Boston rivalry :)

It makes sense... (for fear of sounding stuck up), if a big name Western team is coming to Boston area, what two Eastern teams would they most want to play?

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

Can't believe that BU actually rose one spot to 12th in the poll this week. I know it partially depends on what the teams around you do, but after losing Friday at UMass and then just beating them in OT at home, I figured a hefty drop.

How about an annual tournament, "The Melting Pot"

BU
BC
Minn
North Dakota

:D:D

Who lost on Friday?
OT Tie, then OT win.

What is surprising about that? We tied and won. Union, who I believe we jumped ahead of, lost to UNH and beat American International.

Also, the first edition of our monthly mailbag is up. Check it out.

Nice feature.

Curious about the Ruikka comment: "Ruikka will definitely need to enroll in graduate school if he wants to stay at BU for four years."

Why would this be? If he redshirted and has a "fifth" year of NCAA eligibility, it doesn't matter on that end, and academically even a student with a 4.0 GPA and has already fulfilled their degree requirements can elect to delay graduation to take additional courses. At least, that was my impression.

That's my understanding as well, although I am admittedly not an expert on this. The example I always think of is Matt Leinart returning to USC for a fifth year and taking ballroom dancing and a couple other makeshift classes so he still qualified as a student.

I'm not sure and I had the same impression. Maybe he does not "have to"... but if he really is Mr 4.0, then he might not have much interest in taking home economics and ballroom dancing to play hockey for a year, and would instead opt for legit courses in Grad school.

The "need to enroll in graduate school" comes from Parker, who said that's what Ruikka will have to do to remain a student at BU. I think he had enough credits to graduate last year. There's only so long you can delay graduation for before it isn't beneficial to be taking random classes anymore (trust me, I'm having this problem as well). The most interesting thing to me about Parker's comments on Ruikka was that Parker was not sure Ruikka will come back next year.

Re: BU 2011-2012 Season: The bar is low, boys!

I didn't notice the UMass coaches or players complaining about the call.

Cahoon admitted (as much as he could without getting fined) that there was a non-call he wasn't happy about right before the call against UMA that could have gone against BU who did the same thing as the UMA player. I didn't hear any complaints about the call itself being a dive.
