Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Okay, notfromblahblahblah, your entire third paragraph is general in nature. "until they do something or change their play to make them no longer wanted on the roster" or stuff happens - and probably stuff you don't even know about". Let's flip this around. Why don't you tell me the stuff that happened that I "probably" don't know about. While you're at it, tell me which players changed their play - and how they changed. I've read nothing here from the pro-coach brigade that is based in fact. Ego? Motivation? Entitlement? Slacking off? Disinterest? You've thrown the ideas out them but none have been articulated.
One thing I do know for sure - what I know - Digit also knows.

No, I'm not going to flip this around because you have NEVER substantiated a single accusation you have made about Digit's actions. All we know is that there are players who are not on the roster this year who were there last year. You came here to suggest sinister motivation on Digit's part, but refuse to divulge any evidence. But you continue to troll and revel when anyone says anything negative about the situation.

And your last line "One thing I do know for sure - what I know - Digit also knows" - It isn't difficult to know nothing. Sgt Shultz was really good at that. You haven't said what it is you know. You just like playing "I've got a secret." which is usually done by someone who repeats 3rd hand gossip.

So, and I repeat again, which one of us is Digit?

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Stop saying stuff like this. Again one person said they have a kid on the team, so give this response to their posts not mine. I've only defended cookie one time and that was my first post. 30 posts later the only reason the name got dropped was to show how hypocrital people have been, not to gain support for cookie.

Do I take that as one vote for ccookie79 and her actions?

You don't seem to understand that she is taking her personal agenda (calling for Digit's head because she cut a couple of players she liked) and using it to rabble-rouse. Support of her is feeding a troll.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Is her personality at times obnoxious, I think most would have to say yea.

Her personality happens to be very much like mine, so I'd guess you'd fricken HATE me! LOL

Sure, read the posts from onMaa, trillium, iceisnice, hux and their ilk.
I'm proud as heck to have these folks considered my ilk!

Meanwhile, I don't suppose we can simply agree to disagree and call it a day? :D

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

My 2 cent summary. Some Brown insiders feel it is time to make a coaching change. Some in this internet community believe such statements by insiders, whether or not they have validity, are detrimental to the team. Personally, I don't know if they hurt, but I don't see how they help.

You have stated that there is enough talent in place currently to win with different coaches. I will bow out of this discussion at this point, and just say I wish the Brown team the best.

One aspect it might help is giving the AD a more accurate portrayal of the issues involving the women’s hockey team. I don’t expect him to be persuaded by things read on this forum. But I do know Digit has gone around and asked parents as well as people in the hockey world to write positive endorsements about her coaching. So one direct impact this forum might have is preventing anyone else from making such recommendations just because they were simply asked to. It’s just giving the AD an excuse to overlook actual issues.

HCKY85: What notfromaroundhere is saying is that free speech is not an option on this forum. Maybe that's how it is where s/he's from. I don't need supporters - or votes - or whatever. I have an opinion and I have a right to voice it. End of story!

wow. just wow.

and just to clarify, I am the one that was calling for Dig to be fired. and katie king. and I don't want courtney kennedy promoted either. I need that little barf icon....USCHO slacks at emoticons. boo. I need a thumbs down icon here.

But for real, the best of all this is when we say "point the finger at Digit". I lol every time. Digit, finger, point. get it? digit, finger, digit, finger. okay. ****, I need sleep. ughhh.

friday = college hockey = a good day. lets get it on! woot.

Is that really how you just interpreted my post, as a vote for supporting ccookie? I'll try to reword it so you can have a better understanding.

My thoughts, stance, and posts are all completely independent of whatever ccookie posts. In no way am I defending her actions. We might both be calling for the coach’s head, but they have their reasons and I have my own reasons for how I view the situation.

Please dig up that quote about being against free speech for me ccookie79.

You don't need any supporters, as you have few if any. You have every right to troll who claims to have inside information, but refuses to share the evidence.

And I have every right to call you out as a whiny parent who is upset that her Janey doesn't get to be on the team with the girls she was promised.

And it bears repeating again because you won't answer, oh insider who knows what Digit knows, which one of us is Digit?

If you'd like to address this issue with the AD, I suggest that you do so directly either by snail mail or email, as I don't think he reads this forum, nor cares about what is said here either.

And coaches always seek out positive endorsements. It is how you go about negotiating your next contract. And if a parent doesn't have anything positive to say about Digit, I can imagine that they wouldn't send a letter just because they were asked to. And unless Digit has been opening the AD's mail, I can't imagine how she would know who has been writing what to him.

As I mentioned above, if you do have issues with Digit's coaching, please send it to the AD and by all means encourage your friends to do so too.

Truth is that there is almost always drama on any competitive hockey team. Often the coach has to settle it, resulting in hurt feelings (or worse). You may be privvy to some of that picture (only people in the locker room have a complete picture). Quite frankly, the AD probably doesn't care about the drama, as that is what he hires the coach to manage.

And for all the discussion so far, nobody has mentioned what the alleged issue is with the players who are no longer on the team.

Please share with us Digit's coaching issues that need to be addressed with the AD.

I agree completely, that's why I stated my objective. I clearly said this forum wouldn't convince the AD or even be read by him. But it could convince people approached by Digit to not write a recomendation unless they truly mean what they're writing.

I never said anything about Digit knowing who actually writes recommendations simply because she asked them to. That's completely irrelevant whether she knows or not. And not every player is a whiney little brat who cries to mom and dad. So I'm sure there are many parents unaware of how their daughter truly feels about their coach.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I dare a new coach to come in and make the attrition rate higher or decrease the winning percentage, it's not possible.

And your arguments pretty tough to defend especially at Brown. Just look at the men's team. They had the Grillo Empire going on for twelve years. He had early success too, but then drove the program into the ground. This year they got a new coach and now they're doing awesome, without even having the chance to have their own recruiting class come in to work with. I think the men's team is actually breaking previous years records in shots and goals.

So if anything, I'm a firm beleiver that the talent of the players at brown is not the problem, it's the coaches.

hcky - first, to get the unimportant stuff out of the way - this years team has 63 goals in 21 games. The '75 team had 171 goals in 30 games (McIntosh, Gilligan, Bothwell, Roberts - start singing "Glory Days" now). So this years team is going to need to average 12 goals per game over the next nine to catch them! (and i'm not even sure that's their highest scoring team ever).

Your quote regarding the "Grillo Empire" pretty much shows which way you lean - there may be a 1000 issues, but it's the 'coaches fault' when things go bad. But as has been stated here, in sports or the corporate world the bottom line is W-L's so can't argue there. I wouldn't say this years team is 'awesome', but although inconsistent there has been marked improvement - 7-12-1. When a new coach like Whittet comes in like on the men's side it does seem to rejuvinate everyone in and around the program. He'll nail a good recruit or two the first year and we'll seem some strides - but in the long run there are major issues with things in the administration (and things like the AI and FA) that will remain a challenge for any coach at Brown unless they get a bigger commitment to the program - same for the men as the women.

The thing to keep in mind is that Grillo left on his own for another opportunity, he was not fired for a new coach (although many people on the men's side here were calling for his head as well). I don't think the AD is likely to fire her unless he was getting a lot of pressure from alumn$...and I don't see that happening with women's hockey. I think eventually you may see that with happen with Digit if she can't turn this around in the next few years.

I do agree re: attrition rate to a degree. There will be more freshman playing, but there are only so many players in the program, a new coach can't come in and totally clean house. It's not like back in the day when there was also a full JV team and literally the third and fourth line competed every practice to see who is going to suit up for the next game. I was surprised to read here that up to eight players left the program this year, i'm sure their lack of depth is one reason they are struggling.

I support the Brown programs and whoever is coaching. You hope the administration is doing their due diligence in reviewing the programs every year, but I don't have a son or daughter playing there like a lot of the posters here so I can see where the frustration level and sense of urgency is turned up. In the end, I think it is more about the players than the coaches. You get a Yann Danis in and Grillo is a genius who graduates a senior class with more wins over 4 years than any previous four year class at Brown. When he doesn't his break out sucks and no one can stand their 'endless cycling' in the offensive zone. Digit gets a Katie King and Tara Mounsey and she's off the Nationals and one of the winningest coaches in women's hockey! Now she's not getting them and she's forgotten how to coach, has a rotten personality, and cuts players with malice.

My pee-wee team is only .500 this year, rumors are i'm probably going to get replaced by the town dentist who was captain of his high school team! Ouch.

This to has already been brought up in one of the three threads. You've speant this much time trying to combat our stance, I’m sure you have the time to go and find that previous post as well.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Tell that to Wisconsin and Boston College. Teams loaded beyond belief with talent yet lack a coach who has figured out how to pull it all together. Wisco, I'd consider cutting a little slack to, but Boston, man, has Katie done a real bang up of job there. In all seriousness, I've watched many of her current players in their pre college and years and I'm saddened to say that some of them were playing are better than then now. Players fault or coaches? Probably both. But I guarantee, you cannot take a team full of national caliber players and stick them with a coach who cant, well, coach, and expect to win games.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

And for all the discussion so far, nobody has mentioned what the alleged issue is with the players who are no longer on the team.

I'm not defending those players, so again, ask this question to someone it applies to. I've only been concerned with the current team, so I don't get why you're still trying to justify the decision to cut past players.

The only time I might of made a point to stand up for the players cut was to honor their integrity. No one has talked about any of their hockey abilities, instead people have made malicious attacks about their character. But that was merely out of common decency.

I never said there were any whiney players, only whiney parents. And I imagine cookie's daughter long ago got over the players who aren't on the roster (it is normal for a freshman to be surprised when upperclassmen don't make the team), whereas cookie hasn't. And if her daughter hasn't gotten over it, then she probably won't last long on any team. Dealing with this kind of change is a big part of growing up.

My point about not knowing who writes recommendations is that there is no conspiracy here to find out who supports the coach and who doesn't.

RStarr - certainly there are exceptions to every rule. I couldn't challenge you on BC or Wisco as I don't know enough about the players, coaches, or programs. The players are talented, but do they have any real leaders? Are the best players lazy and selfish? Do they have enough grinders and role players? It just may be they have no team chemistry and can't/won't get over the hump no matter how well Katie coaches them up. Or maybe Katie just can't figure it out as you said.

But to that end, Digit is different than Katie as she had national caliber players and won a lot of games, had a lot of success, right? Was she a great coach then and a bad coach now? Maybe she is burnt out, or has lost the edge as another poster said.

I can confidently say if those two Lamoureax twins from MN were transferring to Brown next year rather than ND - Brown would win a whole lot of games with Digit....or you....or me coaching the team.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

OK RStarr. Time to get some sleep as you suggested earlier. Proper sentence structure will return when your brain is rested. :D

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I never said there were any whiney players, only whiney parents.

As one of the two individuals that have been transparent in identifying themselves as a parent, I take umbrage with this statement. Please take a moment and read my posts. I think you will find them fair, balanced and worthy of consideration.

Brown plays Harvard today at 7pm and it will be webcast if you can't make the game. I hope that many of you posting on this thread will catch the game, cheer on both teams and make observations about the game rather than perceived personality traits of their parents and friends.
