Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

It’s nearly impossible to win an argument when you’re arguing with a bunch of hypocrites.

1. Don’t sling mud, although you guys are the only ones who have done so.
2. Wins and losses can’t be the only reason to judge a coaches success, but it’s valid enough to discredit any progress made on the men’s side.
3. No player should feel entitled. If you don’t do your job then your cut or fired, but again we’re not allowed to apply that to the coaches.
4. No one knows how big Digit’s or Sean’s paycheck is, but it’s small enough to be a reason that Brown can’t keep coaches, but large enough to keep Digit and Sean around.
5. Don’t assume things. Logical reasoning can’t be made about Digit’s desire to win or the decisions she’s made unless we have facts. But when it comes to the players, it takes only one person to make stuff up to justify their own actions. If it wrongly portrays the character or ability of individuals you lack any remorse when repeating it.
6. A low level of endowments prevents Brown from being good. Although Cornell has a much lower level of funds with a much larger student body, they are becoming more and more competitive every year. And Yale with one of the largest endowments seems to be at the bottom of the Ivy League standings along with Brown.
7. Recruiting in the Ivy League is much different than other d-1 schools. Grades, community service, talent all have to be considered. But this only displays how good of a coach Digit must be, and nothing about the quality of the kids on her team.
8. Basically, since Browns in the Ivy League it has to accept that being competitive in sports will never happen. Because amongst the school’s mission for excellence they simply don’t apply that to team sports. But if they keep Digit around, they’ll be successful again.
9. A new coach would only increase turnovers, but turnovers aren’t actually a bad thing as long as Digit’s the coach.
10. You can post quotes that Digit has said to support your argument. When I do the same, I’m somehow manipulating what she said and am just twisting her words around somehow.
11. People that you claim to be insiders have no right publicly posting about this subject because somehow the idea of people having an actual idea about what’s happening is absurd. Obviously we’re all just taking advantage of being able to blow off steam from our kids getting cut or short shifted, or even ex-players trying to get revenge on the coach. But you all know the situation better than any of us without actually seeing it, so there’s no way we could just want the best for the program. That’s clearly what you guys want.
12. We’re selfish and are only thinking about one person, our kid. But it’s fine that all of you couldn’t care less about any of the player’s and are only concerned about Digit.
13. When the coaches are in question, it’s the team lacks talent. But when recruiting becomes the question, the coaches aren’t responsible for that either.
14. Cookies always being called out for not making sure her sources are correct, but who needs to check their sources when defending Digit. What one person says has to be true so it’s all right to make judgments of the situation.
15. People are cowards for being anonymous. But people who anonymously call people cowards are not.
16. It’s okay for a coach to use student’s grades to their advantage by recruiting them as AI kids to get someone else in. But it’s not okay for a student athlete to take advantage of their own grades and hard work by using them to get into a good school.
17. Recruiting is nearly impossible at Brown because of all of the different aspects that are considered in the process. But then if a new coach comes in, he’s bringing a bus load of recruits somehow so current players better be ready to get packing.

I think that summarizes almost all of the pro-Digit posts.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Just because you won’t acknowledge opposing points, doesn’t mean that none have been made.

And just because Digit might be given less to work with than other schools, doesn’t excuse her from doing nothing with what she does have.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Hey RStarr, how come I didn't get quoted in your tirade? What are you, afraid of me or something? Or did I just make too much gosh darn sense?

:p

I feel loved rather than violated, as I got my own special Quote, with Light Bulb effects to boot :p .....

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

And if you spent as much time helping someone in your community as you did authoring that epic post, the world would be a far better place.

Sorry, no personal offense meant, sincerely.......but the volume of effort and energy to tear down the pro-Brown side is just absolutely killing me.

I just wish more people in the world valued the bigger picture. I just don't get it. I spent my evening doing my part in my community. I hope you all are doing the same.

You see this is called Digit Power ! :)
Maybe you'll catch the fever someday. :D :D

Seriously, many good points have been brought to the table. Long story short, if no one from the inside had brought up the "fire the coach" item, this discussion would have died a long time ago. And for god sakes let's not start another similar thread about another school or schools (Re:6)

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Digit Power...I love it.... must have been why "Brown" won the U.S. Senate seat!!!! :D

Digit for President!
(but not for another 30 years so she can keep up the good work in her current role!)

keep it coming boys. I can go ALL night long. =)

I already responded to you and your "sense" ;)
Light Bulb on.......

Lets do some math: (I'm good at numbers, lousy in English, Excellent in French and two other languages)

FA for a student for four years at half of total cost at Brown would add up to 4x$25K = $100K.

The scouts pretty much go to all the tournaments anyways, so if you have to sign two extra players, that would add up to 2 officials, a couple of meetings with coaches, and potentially 2 extra recruit trips. Max cost $5-6K.
Point is the extra recruiting cost is peanuts compared to the FA doled out, which is doled out anyways, irregardless of whether incoming students are hockey players or not.

...Light bulb OFF.
Way to make assumptions. You know there is a lot of money wasted on turnovers, to pretend there isn't is straight up asinine. I know your smarter than that...or I thought.
and if you spent as much time helping someone in your community as you did authoring that epic post, the world would be a far better place.
Please....I am the community service queen. Making more A $ $ umptions are we?? You have NOTHING on me regarding community work. nothing. But what exactly does community service have to do with Brown? Its just more blah blah blah coming out of your mouth mouth mouth.
Sorry, no personal offense meant, sincerely.......but the volume of effort and energy to tear down the pro-Brown side is just absolutely killing me.
I am pro Brown. If I wast pro Brown, then I wouldn't care about them or their record or whats going on with their team. Answer me this...why do you feel the need to defend Digit and her bullshizzz with every last ounce of blood in your body? What does it mean to you? Other than the fact that you obviously like to hear yourself talk...errr post.
I just wish more people in the world valued the bigger picture. I just don't get it. I spent my evening doing my part in my community. I hope you all are doing the same.
And just what is the bigger picture? Oh yeah, that Digit is more interested in graduating "well rounded students" than winning hockey games. Well then, maybe Dig should be a teacher and not a coach. Refer back to my post where I said these girls are graduating on their own...without the team and without Dig mister.

Get off your high horse. This is a public hockey forum where people come to discuss all things hockey...that includes their dissatisfaction for a craptastic program that is doing a disservice to all hockey programs. Again, if the conversion is "killing" you, leave the thread. HARD CONCEPT TO GRASP.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I'll just say that it had nothing at all to do with our feelings about Digit personally. Besides, my comments have absolutely nothing to do with my own daughters situation. I believe the title of this website is "Fan Forum", and I am a Fan.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I do have two questions for OnMAA, Trillium, Ice is Nice, etc that currently have daughters playing D1. Was your daughter recruited by Brown? Why didn't they go?
Hey now, NO serious questions. There is no room for serious hockey discussion on this forum. What the hell are you thinking?!!111!!!!!11!

Nah, they don't make a pair big enough to contain all the poo you spew. :p

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

There are many factors that go into a decision on what school to attend. She liked the coaches at Brown fine. She chose another school that she preferred for the school itself. Though quite honestly if she had decided she wanted to go to Brown instead, the financial aid situation there would still likely have ruled it out anyway.

Exactly why I am here. hcky85, from your stated age, I know that you are not a parent of a Brown player (and I'm hoping not a current player), and quite frankly if you want to say "fire the coach" for whatever reasons you want, go ahead. I probably shouldn't have started taking apart your arguments, as I really have no affiliation with Brown or Digit.

I just have a problem with insiders such as the parent of a player (ccookie79) who seek to destroy a coach before their kid even takes the ice for the first game of their freshman year. To me, that is wrong and undefensable! And for that matter any parent of a player who seeks to undermine their daughter's coach is doing wrong by both the coach and their daughter.

THAT IS WHY I AM HERE!

Let me see how many defenders of cccookie's actions there are out there!!!

Stand up and be counted.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

Those who don’t focus entirely on the record seem to have a very superficial understanding of Ivy League athletics. They don’t attract big crowds for multiple reasons. The student body’s significantly smaller. Admission is much stricter so to get into an Ivy League school you need to have some exceptional talent or hobby (whether it’s sports, chemistry, speech and debate, politics). But the majority of students here have their own obligations. The fact that there are not many spectators does not in any way demonstrate that Ivy League athletics don’t view winning as top priority.

ANyone ever been to a Cornell men's game???

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I was once lucky enough to spend twenty minutes talking hockey with Coach Murphy while my daughter was at one of her camps. When I asked her what the biggest changes in coaching were in recent years, her response was "the number of players who show up with a sense of entitlement." She said that she just cannot accept that and would not hesitate to tell players with that sense of entitlement, "don't let the door hit you in the *** on the way out." Maybe a liitle of that in this year's story? I don't know but I'm sure that the game itself has not changed so much that it's simply over the heads of the coaches.

Self serving statement at its best. Blame everyone else, of course.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

You have a fantastic career in tabloid journalism ahead of you if you want, as you are good at taking quotes out of context, noting here that there is no background given on when this was said.

I Don't know where you took the quote from, but clearly from the words "right now" in bold type, there is a context to this comment. For all I know it was taken from a talk to her players just before a game. And on game day, that would be a comment made by just about any coach. And would you fire every coach who said that right before a game and then lost?

You wouldn't fool too many students at Brown with that cheap argumentative trick. I suggest that you along with ccookie79 work on bringing some real coaching or hockey knowledge to the discussion besides the win and loss record if you wish to have some credibility. Stop relying on weak word twisting and do you homework.

LOL, if you only knew ........ what you were talking about ...... and to whom!

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

You know what happens when you assume something... ;)

So where it the out of context quote to say she doesn't desire to win? And I don't see Digit here posting here defending her name against the whining hockey parents in this thread. Where is the quote for that one?

Or better yet, just step away from the keyboard and preserve what little reputation you have left.

How do we know Digit's not posting here defending herself? I believe she is.

Re: Brown - Oops! They did it again.

I wonder how many people on this thread have actually seen Brown play at least two or more games this season. My interest in participating in this discussion is to provide context for thoughtful conversation.

In this spirit, I am willing to pay for up to 25 posters to either go to a Brown game or watch one online. I will buy your admission ticket or pay the one-game online fee. This offer is for the home game weekend series against Cornell, Friday February 12, and Colgate, Saturday, February 13. I chose these games as both are webcast and it gives me enough time to send you the money.

All you have to do is send me your contact info via rep and I'll take care of the rest.

EXCELLENT SUGGESTION.
