Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

You must be older than me. I can remember from the early 60's

2 CBS
4 NBC
5 Metromedia
7 ABC
9 WOR - Mets/Knicks/Rangers
11 WPIX - Yankees/Cartoons
13 WNET - Educational

As a kid we had 2,4,5,7. In the next few years 9,11, and 13 were added. I loved 13-Uncle Fred Sales showed all those cartoons with mice coming out of the faucets and stuff. :)

5 had Wonderama with Bob McAllister.

I'm probably not the only one here who has driven through Youngwood PA and seen the birthplace of George Blanda signs... :(

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

How did none of us think of him for the Dead Pool?

Cause we thought he still might make a come back based on Jamarcus' performance last year...you know when Farverer came back George had to be looking for those hightops again.

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

Salami to you too:) I guess I am really showing my age with these posts. TV was my babysitter in those days as my folks could not always afford to pay someone to stay home with me so they plopped me in front of the old Dumont TV set with the 11 inch screen and allowed me to just sit and watch one of the 4 channels we were getting in NYC at the time.

We had 2,4,5,7,38,56. We weren't allowed to watch certain things and it never occured to us that no one would find out so we just didn't watch them.

Anybody remember Col. Bleep? or Space Angel??

Re: BRING OUT YOUR DEAD (Part Whatever)

The Raiders could still use him.

I was thinking that Sunday when that over rated clown Janikowski missed an easy chip shot on the last play of the game against the Cardinals to pizz away a win. It's great to kick the occasional 60 yarder, they look great on Sports Center, but they are rarely for the ball game. You've got to make those kicks coming down the stretch, and it seems like Blanda almost always did.

It wasn't that Blanda had nerves of steel--he had no nerves at all. After he left the Bears, many of us watched him lead the Houston Oilers to the first two AFL titles. Touchdown passes filled the air like rain drops. The games were carried on NBC and were highly entertaining.

A great, great player.

They replay Sgt. Preston from the radio (or just the audio from the TV show) on XM Radio Classics, XM 164 / Siri 118.

(or at least they used to)

His off-field persona was great, too. He was essentially a 40's radio play hero come to life -- dependable, soft-spoken, arm of steel, mind of quiet deliberation. I have no doubt he would have kicked Chuck Norris' hippie can in a fair fight, then bought him a whiskey. :p
