Being the supersticous person I am when it comes to sports, I am not watching 'Yo or Axford until they cut their hair

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Always being on no-hitter watch is getting a tad old.

Now, that's the way to break up a no-hitter. Maldonado with another big hit and Axford finally rediscovers his form. Wash, rinse, repeat please.

Marcum will miss today's start with elbow soreness. Replacement not announced yet. Given his injury history, I don't like the sound of it.

Veras is unavailable but not on the DL (yet) after tweaking his groin, which apparently has been bothering him.

Some good injury-related news for once - Brewers confident that Marcum's elbow issues are not structural, Izturis is set to return Friday, Ishikawa on Saturday, and Estrada on Tuesday. Thornburg sent to Nashville, corresponding move not announced yet, but it'll be bullpen help.

Wait, this is good news? :p I was glad they finally got rid of Conrad and if they would get rid of Izturis I'd be happy...or at least make him the backup. He seems to be a slower, worse defender and roughly equivalent hitter compared to Maysonet.

On another note, I'm starting to be concerned about Axford. This seems to be like the Turnbow phenomenon. A great year or so followed by an implosion. I hope it doesn't end up that way, but man has Axford been terrible for the last couple weeks.

Technically, it's two great years. He was thrust into being THE closer when Hoffman s*it the bed.

As of right now, I'm of the opinion that it's just "statistical rebalancing." Was Axford really that good for 49 straight saves? Maybe, but the odds say he shouldn't have been. I think worrying about his wife caused some of this too.

If he's still awful come August, then there are issues.

And I really was excited to have Brooks Conrad on this team, but he apparently can't break through again. He's a AAAA player. Too good for the minors, can't get back into the Majors. My wife commented that Clutch Conrad hadn't been the same since his three error game against the Giants in the playoffs.

So... Estrada comes back tonight. But news on Marcum isn't great - although it's not horrible either (yet).

Mike McClendon sent down when Estrada was brought back.

Remember to vote for Ryan Braun in the ASG. Someone else can provide the exact numbers - but he's actually having a better season than he did last year, at this point. Is this what we'd call non-cheater's proof? ;)

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Braun missed yesterday with a sore elbow.

Lucroy may be out another month or so.

What is up with Nyjer Morgan? He's had a bunch of mental lapses lately.

Brooks Conrad had two doubles hitting cleanup for the Rays yesterday in their win over Lee and the Phillies. He had more hits this weekend for the Rays than he had in his whole time as a Brewer.

aparch: I agree with the "statistical rebalancing". Axford was way better than expected last year, and this year he's evening out. Happens to everyone, even HOFers. I'm still not that worried. I guess it's a good thing we have two closers if we need them (although K-Rod hasn't been great either).

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

And now how do we feel about John Axford?

I don't think he's the only one not getting it done, so he still seems like the best option.

Is Greinke gone? MLBN mentioned Wednesday that Greinke would "welcome a trade to the Cardinals or Atlanta" but I never heard an actual source or anything more about it. I doubt the Brewers would trade him within the division.

We're 7 back, but I just don't feel like the teams ahead of us are unbeatable.

Marcum's not ready yet, but Lucroy expects to be back "around July 20th".

Greinke ejected after 4 pitches for slamming the ball down after a safe call at first. It looked obvious to me that he was mad at himself, but oh well. That just about sums up the season so far.

That was an absolute joke. Holbrook must have been feeling a little insecure. Batters do it all the time, and he didn't even look at the ump or say a word. The Brewers are lucky the All Star Break is tomorrow, otherwise they would have been in deep trouble with an already overtaxed and generally ineffective bullpen.

No word yet on if Greinke will start again today.

Taylor Green optioned to Nashville to get more playing time. No corresponding move yet.

Dillard to Nashville (if he accepts), Thornburg back up (for the bullpen - for now), and Jeff Bianchi called up as well.

Zack Greinke is starting on Friday, which makes 3 starts in a row for him... technically.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

and in case anyone missed it, Ben Sheets is starting on Sunday for the Braves. I am being completely serious. The Atlanta Braves.
