Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

My point with Braun was that he obviously is going to start making more money, as you just pointed out. Which thins the Brewers wallet when talking with Prince.

I'd like to see Prince stay a Brewer for the record. If not, well I certainly would welcome him in MN. ;)

Here is Braun's contract (if I have my facts straight)

Ryan Braun
2011 $5,500,000.00
2012 $7,500,000.00
2013 $9,000,000.00
2014 $10,000,000.00
2015 $12,000,000.00
2016 $19,000,000.00
2017 $19,000,000.00
2018 $19,000,000.00
2019 $18,000,000.00
2020 $16,000,000.00
2021 $20,000,000.00

Now, how much can Milwaukee afford to put into 2 players? Can they afford putting $35-38 into Braun/Fielder from 2012 to 2018? That seems plausible. So then the best the brewers could do is 7 years, $160 mil.

If they stayed at $38 mil for both for the entire contract starting in 2012, Fielder would make 230.5 mil/10 Yrs. That's 23 mil a year average. Plus it would be front loaded with 30.5 mil in the first season. That's pretty good cheese.

I cant see the brewers or anyone committing to Fielder for 10 years. I used a escalating scale for total salary of Fielder/Braun...starting at $35 mil and going to $38 at at the end...but yeah, something like that could work. Fielder/Braun duo makes $38mil/year
Fielder options:
6 years/151.5mil 25.25/yr
7 years/170.5mil 24.36/yr
8 years/190.5mil 23.81/yr
You could do the 7th or 8th year with a $4-5mil buyout like at the end of Ryan's contract.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

While the numbers are certainly looking a little better in stating a case for keeping Prince... can Mark Attanasio and the revenue sharing continue to pay for the duo IF the attendance numbers and income starts slipping?

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

The problem is there's a limited market for first basemen among teams that could afford to pay that salary. Regardless of what they're worth, if there's a shortage of demand they might not be able to get it. Who can honestly afford 30 mil/year? Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs...maybe the Mets, maybe the Phillies (they have Howard though), Angels?
Funny you bring it up because I've asked the question as well. Sure he can figure he's worth a certain amount but when you start crossing off the teams who can't afford it and then the teams who can afford it but already have a terrific 1st baseman you aren't left with much. His contract may largely hinge upon his willingness to DH right out of the gate because the Yankees need one and Poppy is getting old in Boston. You provided several teams who are willing to take on some payroll but half of that list already has to notch first basemen in Tex, Gonzalez, and Howard. If I had to drop some money now I'd probably lean toward the Angels with the Brewers having maybe a 20% chance of working something out to keep him.

Back to this season, I believe the magic number is somewhere around 23. Since I think there is maybe a 5% chance of catching the Phillies and perhaps even slightly less of a chance of being caught from behind by the Cards I'm really keeping sole watch on the D-Backs and Giants for the #2 seed.

I believe the magic number is now 22. The Crew has a pretty good inside track to the #2 seed, which means Atlanta in the NLDS. As such, I'm pulling for the Giants to win the West and somehow use that pitching to shut down Philly three times.

ATL in the NLDS would be fun. Too bad my wedding is the weekend of games one and two in MKE.

Just our luck. :(

Think I can have Bud Selig push the dates back?

If you were a real fan and your spouse really loved you, you could either move the wedding date or have the reception at the games. ;) :D

She's a Braves fan and just as heartbroken about the dates too.

We had made the plans long ago as to not interfere with hockey.

Obviously you're going to need a few very large TVs at the reception. I think I'd rather get married during the regular season than potentially miss playoff baseball (not that I have to worry about such things). Really aparch, why wouldn't you guys foresee the Brewers and Braves meeting in the NLDS that weekend???? :p :)

I guess you'll just have to go to Atlanta for game 3, huh?

In case anyone missed it (can't remember if it's been posted before): Nyjer Morgan feature from his days with the Regina Pats

Matchups this series:
Tonight: Lopez vs. Wolf
Saturday: Dempster vs Yo
Sunday: Coleman vs. Greinke

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

Carlos Gomez starts rehab today with the Timber Rattlers. He's expected to stay for 4 games.

Taylor Green called up from Nashville and Tim Dillard sent down (Narveson is in the pen for a little while).

This is an interesting situation because they aren't going to need 5 starters for the playoffs, are they?

Went to Woodman's this morning... I was amazed at all the people there sporting Brewers attire.

Narveson is the odd man out because of the way the off days fell

Yep, Naveson is just going to be in the pen to get some work while they skip his turn in the rotation due to off days. I think he'll be back in the rotation for September, though I think you can get by with 4 starters in a 7 game series or in extreme cases even 3.

Here's the matchups for the Cards series:

Tuesday: Jackson vs. Marcum
Wednesday: Westbrook vs. Wolf
Thursday: Dickson (making his ML debut - ugh) vs. Gallardo

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

A sweep vs the Cards and according to my calculations, our magic number would be 12. Currently, it is 18.

Re: Brewers 2011 - Yo...Marcum for the post-season or jen may get a little Greinke

It's a **** good thing this race isn't close right now, because I'm not sure I could handle it. Hopefully it stays that way.

Michael Hunt: Cardinals need to lighten up

Carlos Gomez will be back on Thursday. Brandon Dickson is a righty, so I wouldn't think he'd start.

I got my Cardinals tickets for next week in 2 orders. The Cardinals refunded my first order the day they charged my second one, so I emailed them and said they didn't charge me enough. They emailed back and said there was a problem with some orders that day and I got double charged. I emailed them back and said, no, I didn't get double charged, maybe my account showed up on the list because my orders were just a few days apart. They emailed back again and said, well, their ticket vendor said I was double charged and that's that. Exactly how much effort am I supposed to give in correcting them? I wouldn't even know who to contact now. If they're $200 short from signing Albert, it's not my fault. :p
