Anyone read the actual article? It's rather craptastic.

It sure wasn't very good. Too Nyjer heavy, although I did love this quote: "If I invented a team," Morgan says, "this would be the one."

Definitely too Nyjer-heavy. The article made it seem like Nyjer gave the Brewers their personality. IMO, he just fit in with the guys already here (as TG said in the article). They even mention the untucking and the bowling pin thing, then say the Brewers didn't have fun until Nyjer came? They barely even mention the pitching, which is the big difference - not the attitude.

Yeah, it wasn't great, but it's still cool to see an article about them.

p.s. I'd prefer to never see the phrases "baby oil" and "naked golf" in a baseball article again, if possible. :p

Is Tony Gumbo or Gumble a new alter ego? I haven't heard that one before last night.

I think I remember him doing a post-game interview a few weeks ago as Gumbo. Though last night on BBTN, they kept saying Gumble (and before that referred to Telly as "former Brewer great Davey Nelson"). The gist of the conversation was are the Brewers' antics getting out of hand, which in turn prompted a Twitter backlash against the BBTN hosts. Who's the EP on BBTN now, La Russa?

Saw this article on espn.com about Weaver ignoring Boras' advice in order to sign that big extension with the Angels.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...cott-boras-advice-new-los-angeles-angels-deal

My favorite quotes:
"If $85 (million) is not enough to take care of my family and other generations of families then I'm pretty stupid, but how much money do you really need in life?" Weaver said Tuesday. "I've never played this game for the money. I played it for the love and the competitive part of it. It just so happens that baseball's going to be taking care of me for the rest of my life."

and

"How much more do you need?" Weaver asked about his deal. "Could have got more, whatever. Who cares?"
I hold out a tiny sliver of hope that Prince abides by similar logic.

Even if P Dot does say he will take less, because its still a lot of money. How much are the Brewers realistically going to offer him per year? Also, how many years is he going to want?

It remains to be seen, but a boy can dream, can't he?

He will be 28 in May of 2012, so basically the start of next season. Meaning he could want to play (at least in contract terms) for up to 12 more years. He obviously won't get or ask for that. But asking for 8 yrs wouldn't be out of the question.

He is making 15.5 Mil this year. He is perenial all-star and lately an mvp candidate. He also plays a premium pay position of 1st base.

2011 Top 1B salaries:
Texieria 23.1 mil
Helton 20.2 mil
Cabrera 20 mil
Howard 20 mil
Fielder 15.5 mil
Morneau 15 mil
Pujols 14.5 mil

Pujols wants near the 30 mil mark, and im sure Prince will want to be in the top 3. So the start of the conversation is at 20 million. That's a 160 mil for the 8 yr contract.

Worse yet for the Brewers, Ryan Braun only makes 4.2 Million this year. How would they pay both of them?

The problem is there's a limited market for first basemen among teams that could afford to pay that salary. Regardless of what they're worth, if there's a shortage of demand they might not be able to get it. Who can honestly afford 30 mil/year? Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs...maybe the Mets, maybe the Phillies (they have Howard though), Angels?

Worse yet? Ryan Braun is locked up for 145.5 million through 2020.
Fielder sounds like he wants at least what Texiera and Mauer got...so you're talking $180/8 years...some are even talking $200/8 years is a minimum for what he wants.

My point with Braun was that he obviously is going to start making more money, as you just pointed out. Which thins the Brewers wallet when talking with Prince.

I'd like to see Prince stay a Brewer for the record. If not, well I certainly would welcome him in MN. ;)
