Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Agree, although much will hinge on whether Nieto returns for his senior year. And if Privitera rejoins the team, only 2 Ds need be replaced. Transition needn't mean a slow start. See Lowell 2011-12 under Bazin. 12-5 in the first semester.

We deal with possible departures to the pros ever year. Next year is no different than any other.

Would this years team have been better with Chiasson and Clandenning? (That is not an excuse for this years team... it's just the reality of the world that we operate in)

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

You're a BC guy and don't know these guys. How many All American d-men did he recruit and coach while here? A lot. Well respected everywhere inside and outside.I like Sullivan, but don't know if he is the right guy. Same with Hynes. Quinn did not leave in 2009 under the best of terms with Jackie, but as the Denver article said on Sunday, jobs like this don't come up very often in college, especially for a former player who was succesfull as asst and as a recruiter.

Not hearsay; more likely yet another Senator Kyl "not meant to be factual" comment, among many posted on this thread.

What Parker told Quinn:

Apparently you don't know them either. You've done it now, you've upset Rogie...

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Aside from all the news about Parker's retirement I wanted to mention a couple of things:

1) Congrats to the BU Women's Hockey Team on back-to-back Hockey East championships and 3 out of the last 4. Well done ladies. BC swept the individual awards, BU won both team championships (had RS as well.) I'll take it. :)

BC Women's Ice Hockey is the UNH of women's hockey (lotta wins, no trophies)

on a different note. All kidding aside, I am really sad to see JP go and really, I'm not joking. Someone so huge is going to be missed in a lot of ways. You just dont subtract a figure as large as him from something as small as our sport and things be the same. Love him or hate him or be indifferent towards him (not sure you can be indifferent about JP) he for sure will be missed. I am in a melancholy state :(

mookie has always been a fan of john hynes and would like his chances for success if given the reins.

let us remember though that hynes was quoted as saying if he had to start a team from scratch, the first player he would take....

??

luke popko

Probably under the assumption that Patrick Kane would just follow him.

And Popko was on that 2009 team, maybe he's actually why we won...

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

If hynes would start with popko I will gladly call brownie for a legit endorsement ;)

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Breaking News: Hynes is the first coach of a teenage athlete to speak overly positive about said athlete.

(Although if he gets the job the current players would have quite the transition from Parker's typical comments to the media.)

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Someone help me out here... I missed the press conference yesterday.

Did Parker complete a press conference without throwing one of his players under the bus or whining about another team? I would have hated to see him break this long, long Cal Ripken-like streak! :D

edit - Jesus Louganis, thanks for stealing the joke a few minutes before me.

This is one of the weirdest posts on this thread. I'm not sure what you're saying with half of it (Is Quinn bad because he only recruited as well as UNH, or bad because he only won with top talent when UNH didn't win with as much talent?). Quinn was the other finalist for the PC job, and he applied for that while a professional coach, not at BU. Every year Quinn was here the team improved, so why would there be a drop off when he showed up the second time? As for Jack walking away or not, did you not see that BU extended is contract to work in a fundraising job? It doesn't appear they are trying to get him away soon. And this is all before that Toot comment...

The previous argument was that Quinn was an amazing recruiter/coach, and I was simply pointing out that during the same time period a team that has a very leaky defense has brought away the same amount of individual hardware as BU. Regardless of whether Jack was being pushed out, BU is not going to Old Yeller him out on Storrow Dr. Jack has great appeal to many in the University community, even UNH keeps Bill Bowes and Bob Norton around for the appeal that they have to many in a fundraising role.

And as far as the Toot comment, it is punting of 4th and short.

You can do this without saying you'd start your team with Luke Popko. There's a clear difference.

No eastern team has won one yet.

Probably not happening this year either. At some point it will happen though...

No eastern team has won one yet.

Plus, the disparity between Minnesota and the rest of women's hockey is so great it is mind-boggling. Would take a miracle (literally) for an Eastern team to win this year, either.

Who are the most likely candidates to depart? Noonan, Nieto and Privitera come to mind. Outside of that, I think BU is set up pretty well for next year. Assuming the recruits stick and they live up to their billing.

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

On a related note, are BU's recruits now fair game for all college coaches to go after? I would think this would make the athletic department want to hire some one sooner rather than later. They don't want this going into May or June and the incoming recruits (as well as the current players) not knowing what's the future at BU.

Hardly angry; just being factual and a bit sarcastic. However,it's very candid of you to identify with “Kyl comments.”

Do keep posting here rather than the thread for team “unlikelable” as your amigo called the current BC team. With Parker’s departure from BU hockey after 40 years, the only certainties left in life are death, taxes and Iggle-troll droppings on BU threads. :D:D

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

Ya, god forbid I post here after parker retires. That's not a major event or anything.

And I post in the bc thread too obviously, so do you actually have a point for once? Do you and your alleged friends still talk about me? I figured (hoped) you were done reading my posts and responding.

One bc fan called the team unlikeable a while back...what does that have to do with the price of tea in china? Do I automatically have to agree?

Start checking in on those bu recruits, make sure they're still coming.

Uhh I'm not sure exactly how you're counting AA's but it aint apples to apples (Yandle counts Spang doesn't?)

Anyways AA is a dumb metric because voters who don't watch games look at stats (Colby Cohen 1st team in 2010) and Quinn recruited forwards as well as D, but I count 6 BU D on AA teams from his 2nd to 5th year while UNH had 2. I also like how team hardware is less indicative of a coach than individual hardware is now.

Certainly BU could force Jack out privately, but generally forcing someone out doesn't result in a multi year contract extension, which is what Jack got.

I'm still refusing to respond to the Toot point on the grounds that there is no way you are actually serious.

I can see Noonan and Privitera given all the suspensions, but where the hell is Nieto going? The pros? He can't even outscore a freshman on his own team. I like the guy don't get me wrong, but he could use a solid senior season and a college degree to fall back on unless he really likes the thought of playing in Yellowknife or Moosejaw in the middle of winter.

Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

With any high pick, leaving after 3 years is always a good possibility...
