Re: Boston University season thread - strike 3! last man there turn out the lights.

I can see Noonan and Privitera given all the suspensions, but where the hell is Nieto going? The pros? He can't even outscore a freshman on his own team. I like the guy don't get me wrong, but he could use a solid senior season and a college degree to fall back on unless he really likes the thought of playing in Yellowknife or Moosejaw in the middle of winter.

Noonan's decision likely will hinge a lot on the severity of his injury. I can't imagine a pro team is going to be rushing to get a guy out and into their farm system this spring as he's recovering from a severe shoulder separation. If the injury turns out to be a long term one, surgery and multiple months of rehab, I'd look more towards him leaving over the mid to late summer than after the season. Privitera would transfer if anything, or go USHL. Of course, losing him is a two-fer since his brother would go as well. Nieto, I can't tell, certainly his first half was subpar, but his play over the last month to month and a half has been excellent. I don't know much about the Sharks organization and if they have a need for him, but it's always a possibility. If he does come back, he also may have a shot at the C.

No eastern team has won one yet.

i understand that. I meant league and to a lesser extent , Beanpot. They didnt win either trophy this year with the team they have, not good

Yes but the chances of Nieto facing teams like Vermont and Northeastern or Maine in the pros are pretty slim. The point being how much of his recent surge has been against top notch competition? If the guy gets an offer, great go for it, but if he doesn't get something good he'd better get used to long bus rides on icy highways. I've got nothing against the kid but if someone's in his ear telling him he's pro material at this point they're doing him a disservice. Seems a lot of these guys could use a dose of honesty once in awhile.

The fact that they have never won a Beanpot is the most puzzling thing ever. I mean, they went to the national championship game, but can't win that?

ETA: Meant to say BU.

Yes, nobody cares. That's what I basically said, tool.

No one cares. How is Westfield State is doing these days, owlboy?

I believe they won a close one against the Mother Theresa Sisters of the Poor but once again came up short to the Helen Keller School for the Blind in the Division AAAAAA championship.

On a related note, are BU's recruits now fair game for all college coaches to go after? I would think this would make the athletic department want to hire some one sooner rather than later. They don't want this going into May or June and the incoming recruits (as well as the current players) not knowing what's the future at BU.

I'm not sure about the situation regarding current BU recruits. I'd think the University will not rush the decision, but will not let it drag on either.

The previous argument was that Quinn was an amazing recruiter/coach, and I was simply pointing out that during the same time period a team that has a very leaky defense has brought away the same amount of individual hardware as BU.

It's also not always what you do with the high profile recruits/All-Americans but the fact that he could build a team that had 6 defensemen that all had roles and were reliable (at least that one year).

Thoughts on this weekend? I'm tentatively optimistic, but I'm sure that MC will have some extra jump in their step given the results from the season, and they will be looking to even up the score...

I can see them making the Garden only to experience their usual semi final exit in the HE tournament.

BU can't play Maine (I think we can all agree BC will be making it to the Garden) in the semis so no semi-final exit this year for BU. None of the other teams BU can play will beat them. York will obviously let Parker have this one cause he's just that good of a guy. UNH won't make it out of the first round. I mean you need to win two out of three to advance and UNH has 2 wins in their last 10. Plus 0-2-1 vs PC. Not to mention Umile knows they're not gonna win the HE title anyway so why not give another team a chance. So that leaves PC. Ok PC will probably beat BU if they play them. So if BU plays PC, that means BC is playing Maine (as we've already established that BC will be making it to the Garden) and the inevitable Maine-PC final would be a dream matchup for any Hockey East fan. Maine wins 40-6, becomes a TUC and Maine, BU (boosted by the wins vs Maine who is now a TUC), BC, UNH, PC (boosted by a 3-1 record vs TUC's to finish the season), and UML all make the tournament.

Can it happen? No, but if it could who wouldn't root for that?

You've got me convinced.

he had me at 'hello'

Anyone giving Merrimack a chance in this series? Lost to BU 3-1, 4-1 and 5-2. I didn't see these three games - were any of them close?
