Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Note in the Hockey section of Page 2's Boston Globe that CM defenseman Marc Hetnik is coming to BU. (2012) How come this was in the Globe? Just 'cause he's a CM kid? Is he a stud? Both?

Parker controls The Boston Globe.

Yes, but he doesn't get the same kind of immediate obedience that he gets from the referee community. This recruit was announced more than a week ago. It's not yet on Heisenberg, the Globe thought it had a scoop.;)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

The Globe's winter All-Scholastics feature was in today's (Sunday's) paper. Hetnik was named one of the athletes of the year. The Globe probably picked it up in doing their research for the feature and decided to publish it.

Hearing Avs still would like Milan to leave.... still here, but....

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

If Millan were to leave... whats the feeling out there? Would we go at it with "Rollie the Goalie" as our main man for a year? Or would there be increased pressure to bring in another guy?

They would bring in O'Connor. The job would obviously be Rollie's to lose, but I would expect O'Connor to get at least a little bit of time.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

So what goes through the mind of somebody like Kieran in this situation? Is going to one of CO's clubs better than being at BU? I ask this honestly...I could see Wilson going because he had the opportunity to possibly be on the NHL team right away. If you are not going to be knocking on that door right away, what are the pro's and con's. Especially for a guy who might be 1 year from a degree based on years in school. I get the idea of being paid vs. having to go to school but somebody must be able to give him an idea if they see him as the next Ken Dryden, a likely NHL roster guy or a career minor league guy. Is one more year at BU going to hurt him in that regard? Now, if he is not on track to graduate and would leave after the last game next year anyway, then the whole degree thing is moot anyway.

I thought Strait and Shattenkirk had real NHL potential; Kieran, not as much.

Sean fields should have signed after his jr year! And twice on Sunday.

Guy can always take classes to finish....

-and he is in MET anyway.

From what I'm hearing, Millan doesn't want to leave. If he ends up going, it'll be almost entirely because the Avs pushed him to do so. It sounds to me like Millan has already weighed the pros and cons and decided he'd rather return for his senior year. It seems like the only thing left to be decided at this point is just how much the Avs want him to leave. If they come to Millan and say, "We really want you to leave school and sign with us now," it would obviously be tough for him to say no. There have certainly been instances of players saying no to the team that drafted them and returning to school, but I can't imagine it's an easy thing to do. After all, they're the ones who are going to be signing your paychecks.

All comes down to the Benjamins (Franklin, that is). If they offer him enough dough, he should take it. DiPietro wasn't ready for the pros either, but if they're going to give you 2 million bucks to jump ship why wouldn't you? Obviously Millan isn't looking at that kind of payday, but it really comes down to dollars and cents. If he has another year like this last one, its not going to strengthen his position.

i assumed rover's "obviously" was referring to the fact that Milan is subject to the rookie maximum because he is under 25, not that Colorado wouldn't offer that even if they could

(even though they probably wouldn't because only the rangers routinely reach that level of stupid)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Was that ricky's deal?!? I read it that way-if Millan was going to get what Ricky gOT, why not leave.... I sure as hell dont recall the amount that millbury handed him.

Of course rover could have meant IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT too knowing him :p

I thought there was some sort of rule in place at the time that meant if Ricky was gonna make himself eligible for the draft (he opted in, no?) he would lose his college eligibility due in part to his age or something.

When 3hock posts, does anyone else picture Hal Holbrook standing in a dark parking garage? :p
