Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

So few.
I imagine there are more than 14 season ticket holders. I would expect any such holder to be a "friend".

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

My guess is it's gonna be one C and two A's. Connolly's obviously a lock to keep a C and I think Chiasson's pretty much a lock to get at least an A. My guess would be Connolly with a C and Chiasson and Ruikka with A's. If it's two C's and two A's like you predict, I'd agree with Connolly and Chiasson being the two C's and I'd give the A's to Ruikka and Gaudet.

I think chiasson is a very good player, with the penalties he takes is he really a candidate for an 'A'?

Yes, because of how vocal he is and because he's willing to call guys out. He was really the only one on the team outside of the captains who did that this year.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Penalties as a whole are not bad. Some are somewhat assinine, sure. But we all know there are good penalties.

I see him leading with emotion, effort, and skill when he is out there. That is a combination that hasn't been around much as a package deal lately.

Since all season ticket holders get loyalty points 14 should be the correct number of women's season ticket holders, but as with the men, some have more than 1 seat.

Why are you surprised there are so few? I wish it was more and I have enjoyed watching the team since the program was started, but many men's season ticket holders I have talked to have no interest in women's ice hockey (the same goes for the students, as usually only a few show up at games). Furthermore, the BU ticket office handled women's season tickets poorly until last summer. Before that I always had to contact them about renewing my tickets, first in August and again in September when they were ready to handle them. I also know of another person who had season tickets the first season and BU never contacted him about renewing. He was not proactive and never renewed. I think last summer they did a good job as they contacted me first and there was an increase in season ticket holders from 8 to 14. After this past season I hope to see another increase in season ticket holders for the upcoming season.

Doug Friedman - 1993-94 - 41/112

Sean

Friedman did take a few bad penalties. However, many times he was accompanied to the box by an opposing player. More to the point, his penalties had an impact; they made opponents a little leery to carry the puck or to try to make a play, if you know what I mean (and I think you do).

Here are the leftover quotes from our sitdown with Parker. Season review and recruiting feature running tomorrow. Coyle feature sometime in the coming weeks.

Just curious, but how come the BU coaching staff couldn't "push/motivate" a Junior defenseman at the D1 level that has the opportunity to:

1) Win a Beanpot
2) Win a Hockey East Crown
3) Go to the NCAA tournament
4) Go to a Frozen Four
5) Improve his game for the next level.
6) Play for the team he's loved since he was a kid
7) Be part of a winning team
8) Put up All American stats

These quotes on Warsofsky don't pass the smell test.

Granted my knowledge of women's hockey is equivalent to our AD's of hockey but...

I know at BC there aren't even tickets, you just walk in. Aren't most of the games sometime Friday in the afternoon? Tough to get to for the working public who have interest.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Maybe woodword or Bernstein should make a call to Warsofsky and ask?!?!?!? ;)

And that is what I was getting at, Chiasson seemed to take un-needed penalties at some questionable times. I've got no problem witha captain taking penalties, in fact, they have to...but they shouldn't be late in key games on hitting from behind or elbowing etc.

It was just a question, you guys see way more than I do...good to get the insight.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Well, what really stuck out to me was the most frequently heard comment: "We expected..." I didn't see too many "we demanded" comments. The whole thing reaks of just too much "passivity" for my liking. He just seems to "accept" things instead of being proactive about them. It sounds like the enthusiasm is gone (and I don't blame him, to be honest - if I did the same thing for 38 years I'd be pulling my hair out, if I had any left). BUT, nevertheless, to me, in ANY job, that's a classic example of "It's time for a change."

I would have thought that you had more STHs. You have better attendance than some of the other schools. Not sure how many tickets the team gets to distribute. If there isn't a hefty discount on STHs vs. single games, I can understand someone not going the STH route though due to the schedule.

Well, I don't know about the women's program, but there is no discount for men's season tickets...simply the price multiplied by the number of games (of course, they have gone to the "tiered" pricing - some games are priced higher than others).

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Being a season ticket holder for women's hockey got you more loyalty points.

Yeah, that always bugged me too. I'll see post game inteviews after the team half-***ed a game and he'll be saying how he saw it coming because they had a bad week in practice. That's kinda his job to turn stuff like that around. I've said about Parker he's great at diagnosing the problem and analyzing the game. Where he comes up short IMO is with the remedy.

I thought the succession plan comments were well thought out and reasonably encouraging. Even if it is Bavis, if he doesn't work out its a lot easier to get rid of him if it comes to that. What I can't get passed is the recruiting when Quinn was here vs after he's left. While some guys may have a decent year here or there, I don't see any Wilson, Bonino, or Yips amongst the forwards.and that worries me.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

We need a scorecard on the assistants. Who recruited whom?

When buddy came I heard "still has contacts in Canada". Quinn had usndp. Didn't bavis find bonino and Shattenkirk?

Who's keeping score for me to see?!?
