Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Really. Take BC for example. I really doubt they would be looking forward to another matchup with us this year. Yes we struggled early in the year against them, but our more recent games have been much better to the point where in my opinion we outplayed them for big chunks of the game. Look at the results. Each game got better and better until the last one we took them to overtime.

And if Millan is on his game, we have the goalie who can steal one for us.

"Keep The Faith" as we say in Red Sox Nation.

Do you live under power lines?

You can't honestly believe this...

I wouldn't want to play bu..... Here you are, winning 8-0 in the third when a couple guys start hacking. Next thing you know you have a guy hurt and three of you players a suspended for your next game with fighting majors!!!

No sir, don't put bu in my bracket as the 4th seed!!!

OK - I think we can call off the dogs (no pun intended) now...he should get it by now! :D

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

But in all seriousness (not that I'm in a serious mood today...), I actually felt the same way in a brief moment of unbridled optimism (that if BC had to play us AGAIN we might win), until some of the other more sensible posters on this thread pointed out the error of my ways...but that was before the Northeastern series (the first one, at the end of the regular season). I will no longer make such irrational type statements (until next year!) :D

Championship Game of the Northeast Regional in 2009 against UNH in Manchester. We were badly outplayed, but he made a couple of cherry picks on point-blank breakaways that were unbelievable.

Smell the glove!!!

Tuukka - they typical scenario where a team that is borderline to make a tournament but nobody wants to play them is when they had a crappy first half and they turn it on down the stretch and are playing as wel as anyone. Or, they get an injured player back. Or when they are really the second best team in the league, but they have to forfeit games for using an ineligible player, they drop to the #8 seed, and although the league bars them from the conference tourney, they get a judge to put out an injunction order, and your team, as the #1 seed, has to play a team that is really the #2 seed in the first round (not to mention they get the Ferraro brothers back post-Olympics):D

What makes BU any less desirable to play at this point? They haven't beaten a team that they should have lost to since October (other than perhaps the win at UNH). They are terribly inconsistent, their PP is weak, and their goalie, while like most goalies at this level, can steal a game, he hasn't been on top of his game lately.

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

Parker wasn't at the awards banquet tonight, so we obviously didn't get a chance to ask him about practice. There wasn't really much of a chance to talk to players or coaches even if we wanted to anyway.

This quote from today's Globe may explain why, and also why there has been no practice this week...

Hockey coach Jack Parker was part of the BU contingent that traveled to Tulsa. He watched from courtside as the Terriers practiced last evening.

Well, there's probably no practice because they have nothing to practice for this week, and it's spring break so the players have no reason to be here. If they make it in, they have all of next week to practice. If there was a game tonight or they already knew they were in the tournament, I'd bet there's a 0% chance that Parker goes with the bball team. Nice of him to go along and support them.

OK, I admit, that's pretty cool he went. Now, if they could just get a close up of him yelling at the refs...

;)

Re: Boston University Part IV: Off-Season or New Season?

For those still interested, the naysayers can stop reading right now, a bit of a rooting guide for tonight:

1. Michigan MUST beat WMU. If WMU wins, it's goodnight. From what I can tell, that's the only stone cold eliminator tonight.

2. Root for ND over Miami.
3. Root for no upsets in Hockey East, specifically UNH, and the WCHA.
4. Dartmouth winning is NOT a bad thing. In fact, it may be more of a good thing, since many scenarios where they lose tonight require them to lose again to Colgate tomorrow, which is very unlikely. Also, root against two upsets from Colgate and Cornell, that would mean the cut line goes to 14, and we're almost certainly out.
5. AHA appears to be mostly irrelevant.
6. The "all higher seeds win except UNH" scenario still holds. And in that case, the winners of the potential DU-Nodak and ND-Mich championship games are irrelevant. Heck, even if Dartmouth were to beat Yale tomorrow night, if ND defeats Michigan, and UNH still beats BC, we're still in.

Basically, go higher seeds, and REALLY go Michigan. Hail To The Victors ..for now.
