Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Pretty certain that CDRAL has everyone beat on that. I suspect he and I are the only frequent posters on BU threads who can say they saw Jack Parker take the ice as a player. 1967-68 when BU's top three centers were Herb Wakabayashi, Parker, and Steve Stirling. IIRC, Mike Hyndman led the nation (or maybe just the East) in scoring as a sophomore with 67 points.

I started in 1959-60 when Bob Marquis was the marquee player.

Wow! I thought I was one of the "oldest" on here! My first season was MY freshman year, 72-73. We had Paul O'Neill (#21) carrying the puck end to end doing his Bobby Orr imitation. This was the Leon Abbott year (after Jack Kelley) before he got canned and Parker took over in mid-season. Then in '74 we went to the NCAA "Final Four" (before basketball patented the name) at the Garden and lost to Minnesota when Brad Polich beat Eddie Walsh on a slapshot from outside the blue line after Stanfield coughed up the puck. We played at WBA with the organ up in the back corner (before any pep band). We even had our "scandal" in '76. the Bill Buckton/Peter Marzo thing

My first season was 66-67.

You were a BU fan back then? ;)

If this is about remembering BU hockey, my first year at RPI was 64-65, and although I don't remember the RPI-BU game that year, I do remember the one the following season when RPI Goalie Dick Greenlaw made 78 saves, still an NCAA record as far as I know. Too bad that he also let in 9 goals.

I saw Marquis, too, when I was in high school. Never saw Garrity play but he did ref some of our games. And I saw the younger Garrity play against Parker at Watson in 67 or 68. Man I'm old.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

ok, the season is finally here (even though it's an exhibition game). Has anyone seen practices this week, any lines that seem to be in place for now as well as dmen pairings?
Any news at at?

were they allowed to practice this week? last year the first exhibition game was the same day as the first day the NCAA allowed full team practices with coaches.

A bit of alumni news. Matt Gilroy signs with the Connecticut Whale and is expected to rejoin the Rangers post lockout.

Nice to see a number of BU MIH players make it up Comm Ave to support their women's team tonight.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Toronto plays the Riverhawks at 4pm and then BU at 1pm tomorrow. They must have to catch an evening flight home -- or they're going for a trifecta with another game Sunday night.

Just ambling through recent archives, I was reminded of last year's 4-6 loss to St. Francis Xavier to launch a season that ended 23-15-1. The year before it was a 9-3 blowout win against Toronto in which Coyle debuted with a hat-trick (equally his recent half year output). The year before that was a 2-2 tie against SFX. (2008-9 was a 4-1 win over New Brunswick; 2007-8 no exhibition unless that's what you want to call the 3-2 loss to Robert Morris.)

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Very difficult to comment upon the play of any BU players, given how bad the VB's were. This was one of the worst games I've ever seen. However, I will say that Hohmann appeared much quicker and improved compared to last season. On a side note, fans of top-notch journalism and incisive interviews will be saddened by the departure of intrepid ice-level reporter Vanessa Misciagna.

Varsity Blues might be the worst team BU has faced at Agganis. Has there been a worse opponent since Agannis opened?
