Boston University 2012 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

If the Task Force wants to reduce the "celebrity culture", doing away with the elaborate production that accompanies BU taking to the ice surface and precedes the player introductions would be a step towards that goal. Why can't the team come out to the band playing "Peter Gunn" and just lineup for the introductions with no fanfare?

Bingo! A vote here for throwback jerseys AND throwback introductions.

Replacing the awkward interviews with video highlights of a memorable past game against that evening's opponent--or a this-date-in-BU-Hockey-history--would be an improvement.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Any chance NESN picks up some early Hockey East games? Some time slots were alloted to the Bruins and they have to fill them with something.
BU posted its as-of-now TV schedule with NESN picking up the second North Dakota game. I'd imagine NESN will look into other opportunities if the lockout continues. I'd expect FCS to air both UND games and perhaps the l2/29 Denver game, too. The NHL channel has aired college games in the past, so perhaps they'll be added to a lockout mix.

They do come out on the ice to "Peter Gunn," but the band is too quick to go away from it.

I don't mind the "elaborate" pre-game stuff. They do it for basketball at Agganis, as well. I think the fans like it, and it pumps them up.
The opposing players all watch it, and it may get them further psyched up. Just watch some of the players from teams that play in buildings without that kind of technology.

If we have the technology, we should use it. Yeh, it is meant to give a big-time feel. But if you got it, flaunt it. That is one of the tools to recruiting.
If that further adds to the "celebrity culture," well, that would be really sad.

The "sideline reporter" segment is just so lame.
I'd much rather have a canned two-minute segment on what is going on around other BU sports, Hockey East or college hockey in general. Maybe all three.

I do actually look at the other players reactions. Very telling. As you might expect, York's boys rarely look up, whereas most other teams do look up quite a bit.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

So is the goal to get this thing to 1,000 to shut it down? Because I think we would all agree that we are past the off-season at this point. I'm not going to start a new thread as I'm not very clever at naming these things (though I do think my "Up to the Task?" line below is a pretty clever play on words for our current situation).

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Weird that BU says the Nov. 2 game against UND is on NESN, but Hockey East doesn't have that listed.

Is anyone making the trip to NoDak? Flights are pretty expensive....

HE TV listings still to be updated. Both BU-UND games will air on Fox College Sports and NESN will pick up the first game.

Better hope there is no wind in the area :eek::eek::eek:

For the backstory, when BC was out there last year we were on some fox channel as well but there was a "wind storm" that cut off the feed -odd.

It can be killed pretty quickly.

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

Which forwards sit the first game out? Assuming Ronan and Moscatel are out of the discussion, I see the locks as Megan, Nieto, Gill, and Rodrigues (sounds like he looked good against the Blues). Seems like Cisse and Hohmann may have earned themselves spots with good showings as well. I think Rosen gets in since he is an upperclassman. That's seven, leaving five spots open among the five freshmen and Santana. I would have guessed Moran sits, but then he went and scored against Toronto. I still think it will be either Moran or Santana that sits. Or maybe Lane?

Of course, as usual, I am paying no attention to who the centers are, so that could change the discussion.

Thoughts?
