Boston University 2012 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2012 Offseason

more so than herlofsky/noble splitting the frozen four?!? :D

hah...well my main point was that they were both freshmen at the same time. Noble of course was a later class. Had he not had his bike accident, McKersie might have had a very lucrative career. The fact that he still played pro hockey after recovering from his coma/brain injury tells me that without that bump in the road, he really could have gone far.

As sophomores, one of the two (Herlofsky/McKersie) was named 2nd team All-HE, and the other 2nd Team All-American. That tells you how balanced they were. I think McKersie was the All-American.

Bump. Second page guys? this is no good.

The season is only days away - there must be some nonsense for us to banter about incessantly.

Bueller? Bueller? Is this thing even on?

Sunday afternoon game that nobody is going to makes it seem like it is further away than this weekend.

No traffic before or after the game. Free street parking. BU Hockey from 1 to 3:30. Catch the end of the 1pm NFL games at a nearby bar directly after. Pats from 4:25 to 7:30.

Am I the only one who thinks this game time makes for a perfect Sunday?

I gave a few predictions a ways back (leading scorer, leading freshman scorer). Anyone else care to take a shot?

Here is a curious thought - what is the earliest BU season witnessed by someone on these boards? CDRAL - this one may be for you... I started with '86-'87. Cullen's senior season. BU was preseason #1 and was swept by Maine at home. I remember the Maine goalie (Scott King?) giving up a goal from our own zone. But since it was the first live hockey I had ever seen at any level, most of it was a blur.

Of course, someone will need to start the in-season thread soon...

Probably. I might be there if it is raining. What's the forecast?

Sunday games are incredibly dumb

I agree with everything and adding in a 7am tee time makes the day even better

Is drinking on Sunday still against team rules? Does that apply to postgame beverages after a Sunday game?

Assuming your post was serious and not sarcastic:

I think in previous years the allowed night to drink would be adjusted for a Sunday game.

Persorally I have mixed feelings about these drinking rules. Not that I'm advocating excessive drinking, but in some ways I almost think restricting it to one night a week will encourage going overboard on that one night.

There were talks about adjusting it this past Spring, possibly to the ban on drinking starting 72 hours prior to competition that many other BU teams have. Unfortunately, I graduated and am less in-the-know on these things now so don't know if it was implemented.

But then ya'll would say that them drinking on a Tuesday would impact their performance on Friday, because people still whine about the Wednesday to Friday one from two seasons ago ;).

Same for me: '86-'87 was my first season. Cullen, Donatelli. A Shaughnessy who was about 8 foot 7. :D

And it was a blur for me too, especially getting to sit in Section 8 of Walter Brown. So close to the action.

My point is more that if you are only allowed to drink one night a week are you more likely to go overboard on that one night?

What's worse? The player who absolutely fall down drunk every Saturday but doesn't have anything in between? Or the player who has a beer or two several nights a week?

..

Depends on what you call witnessing a season... my first "full time" season was my freshman year 89-90.... but I saw the odd game here and there for quite a few years before that.

Oh I completely agree with you, sorry if me being a sarcastic *** 100% of the time got in the way of that.

I don't agree that drinking on Wednesday changed the team's play on a Friday night, but I was on a tangent at that point unrelated to your post.

Pretty certain that CDRAL has everyone beat on that. I suspect he and I are the only frequent posters on BU threads who can say they saw Jack Parker take the ice as a player. 1967-68 when BU's top three centers were Herb Wakabayashi, Parker, and Steve Stirling. IIRC, Mike Hyndman led the nation (or maybe just the East) in scoring as a sophomore with 67 points.
