Yeah, that definitely is not Parker saying Nieto would get 50 as a freshman. He wouldn't have said that about Tony Amonte in that golden age of high scoring. (he would have been right if he did though:D)

Didn't Parker predict 50 points out of Matt Nieto? That was a little heavy on the praise.

After all, a BU player has only scored 50 or more points twice since Chris Drury left (Colin Wilson and Nick Bonino). I think most BU fans were dissapointed in Nieto's performance.

He started off slow but as the year progressed he was one of the better players on the team.

The College Hockey Blog pegged BU #7 nationally, just as INCH did. With Millan back for his senior year and six blueliners returning—and Privitera taking Warsofsky’s spot—those areas justify an optimistic ranking. But where will the goals come from? Following three seasons of HE regular season goal totals of 97, 103 and 93, last year’s team slipped to 76. Chiasson, Coyle and Connolly—probably all three in their final BU seasons—should lead the way and if Nieto’s second half improvement carries over, he’ll be productive, too. But who else will step up and be a scorer.

Trivino’s strengths are defense and playmaking, so I’m not expecting a Lawrence-like senior season. Megan was expected to become a finisher, with JP once comparing aspects of his game to Bonino’s. Can he become a dependable goal-scorer? And is he best on the off-wing? Seems he does his best work close to the net. Gill’s stick skills should produce some goal again, but playmaking is his forte and he needs to skate with scorers—I’d like to see him with speedy Nieto again.

One would expect both or at least one of the freshmen—“pure sniper (JP)” Rodrigues or centerman Hohmann—will be among the top 9 forwards. But who among the other returnees might take a step up and become a scorer? Can’t disagree with those who suggest Gaudet, with 10 goals two years ago, is unlikely to repeat that output. Courtnall? Gilroy? A decent contribution from Cisse, if he’s healthy, would be a plus, but realistically, he’ll need time to re-acclimate to competitive hockey.

I'd imagine BU will suggest it and that it will take signficant arm-twisting to get his approval.

Lynn Zinser wrote a nice blog piece on Drury in the New York Times. One of the anecdotes she relates:

As chance would have it, I was working as a columnist in Colorado when Drury arrived as an Avalanche rookie. When his roommate on the road, Milan Hejduk, told a group of us one day that Drury had helped him learn English, we laughed. I told Hejduk that Drury spoke to us so little it was hard to tell if Drury himself spoke English.

It would be silly if the Athletic Dept did not;
a> Have a major tribute to Drury during the season.
b> Offer him a position on the staff if only to assist in recruiting.
c> Seriously consider him as a candidate for head coach for the future.

Also caught his performance in the LL World Series on the tube the other day.
I hadn't remembered that he had so much trouble in the game,
but he showed the usual guts and perseverance that have been the hallmark of his career.

Saw the INCH #7 ranking, mostly banked on Millan having a big senior year and Chiasson and Coyle scoring a bunch.
I kind of expect the former and have only a vague hope for the latter.
My hopes are that the above are both true, Sahir Gill breaks out scoring and Cisse is healthy enough to show his talent.
For perspective BC is #16 after their losses, so this ranking is definitely suspect.


If they make the NCAAs, even in the #16 slot, get to the 2nd round of the HE tourney and are in the Beanpot final, that would be excellent.

Agreed on Drury for sure maybe minus the head coach of the future part. He would need to be on the staff or some staff for them to consider him all that seriously. I would agree that getting into the tournament is what matters because anyone can win it once you're there but I am not going to agree that the 2nd round of the HE tourny and only getting to the Beanpot final would be excellent. The Beanpot is a win or bust tournament. There is no reason to be happy that we beat Harvard and then lose to NU or BC. Also getting to the Garden and losing in the semifinals of HE would be disappointing IMO. If they get into the the NCAA's anyway, it becomes irrelevant but this team has the talent and experience to expect to be one of the best if not the best team in HE this year.

This is BU and we should expect our boys to contend for the frozen four every year... But be realistic and remember that only the seniors have even made the tournament in their collegiate careers and they were primarily Long for the ride (except of course the goalie-who played a big role in getting them there).

So if BU fails to make the NCAA's despite the relatively high expectations, how many more of you will come over to the dark side?:eek:
