Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

you guys do know this a hockey forum right?
Perhaps it is relevant. Patriot League has Army, Holy Cross, Colgate as Hockey teams with Navy a possible future one. One more and BU gets a great shot at an autobid every year although Colgate may stifle that here and there. UML, Merrimack, AIC,Bentley could start an NE10 league and BC and Notre Dame could go off to the B1G and Hockey East would disappear. Not at all likely but who knows.

Haha funniest post I've seen in a while. Benefits no school or conference involved besides BC.

Apparently at the CAA Presidents' meeting this week, bu did not gain admission. No football and no baseball did not enhance its chances. Plan B must have been "Let's become a big fish in a smallish pond." They are with some pretty fair schools on the academic side, but are mismatched in most other ways. I can't see many real advantages - certainly not in terms of the competition.

BU was offered a spot in the Colonial Athletic years ago, with the league looking to tap the Boston market. BU turned down the mostly Southern Fried Chicken circuit, and Northeastern jumped at the chance. What did it gain the Huskies? The CAA is a more competitive league than America East in basketball, and ...
How many road trips do Northeastern fans take each year? And how many alumni of the other CAA schools live in the Boston area?
The CAA might as well be the Mountain West (or Big East-Western Division in football ;-)) for all of the relevance that it has for Boston schools.

My reaction to the Patriot League announcement was a shrug of the shoulders.
The league is stable, has strong academic schools, and ... it is not the America East.
While it was nice to be a league with Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine (think old Yankee Conference) and maybe Hartford, playing the likes of former D3 schools Binghampton, Albany, Stony Brook and Maryland-BC had little purpose beyond filling out a schedule.

I would have gotten excited BU joining the A-10, but it was not to be. I still think the A-10 is missing the boat by not having a Boston school. Especially since BC bolted the Big East for the ACC. A-10 games at Agganis could have been an interesting fit to see if BU could jump over the attendance hump in hoop.

Being a major academic institution in a major city, but without football or baseball, limits BU's athletic attractiveness to bigger leagues.

An athletic dept. official once told me not to ever expect football back unless a wealthy donor(s) pony up $100 million and they go big time. Patriot League football would be nice addition ton Saturday afternoons, but it's not going to happen.

I suspect that BU jumped at an offer to move out of AE, even if it is only a slight move up in terms of athletic competition. BU's size and location has little in common with the Patriot League, but the academic ties are more impressive. Let's face it, BU was punching below its weight the America East.

Hockeysfuture.com ranked the draft-eligible players already in college, with Privitera at #8.

Despite missing seven games due to a wrist, Alexx Privitera enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign that culminated with a spot on the Hockey East All-Rookie team. The Old Tappan, NJ native posted 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 25 games in 2011-12. After a slow start to his collegiate career, Privitera began to hit his stride in December. But it was after the departure of junior Max Nicastro (DET) in February that Privitera really made his mark. This was particularly evident on the Terriers power play where two of his four goals were scored. And with sophomore Adam Clendening having recently signed with the Chicago Blackhawks, Privitera could be running Boston University's power play next season.

What Privitera lacks in size, he more than makes up for with his excellent skating ability and puck skills. Privitera is very agile on his skates and possesses very good speed. He is also very active in jumping into plays and his transitioning is quite good. Privitera possesses great hands and distributes the puck really well. He can make strong outlet passes and get quality shots to the net. One area where Privitera made great strides in this season was his willingness to block shots. Possessing fantastic vision, Privitera could be a dominant college player in the coming years.

You're totally right. BU teams unaffected by the Patriot League move will continue to exist in a vacuum from all other sports programs in the athletic department. Furthermore, this news is not interesting at all to those who frequent this specific thread.

My bad guys. Move along.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

Can anyone tell me unequivocally if 4 year walk on with another year of Eligibility who played HUGE on the biggest of stages and is along with Ryan Ruikka one of only two players who were even in the building red-shirting during the 2008-9 run? I am speaking of Ross Gaudet. Gaudet went from being a 4th line or even a 13th forward to being so important that he spent the entire season after scoring the GW goal during RED HOT at MSG v Cornell with a pretty a goal as you will ever see scored in the NCAA and after that GAUDET seemed to be Coach Parker's most trusted defensive forward logging more PK ice time than any other Terrier (similar to the Role Chris Drury played for Team USA in 2010 Olympics) and the hardest working guy on the ice.

BU already KNOWS a big part of the reason they lost the BP for a 3rd consecutive time in history this past season is because there was not enough local representation on that team. BU certainly did not have six seconds more energy to keep a clean sheet in the first OT of the 2012 Beanpot.

The only reason I am not positive that Ross Gaudet is definitely off the team is a) I think he should not only be on the team when the team takes the ice in the fall but He should be wearing a Captain or an Alternate letter on his sweater, b) The COLLEGE HOCKEY NEWS which has a very current roster for all other teams still lists Gaudet as a 2012-13 team member, and c) the already thin team needs his play as no one goes harder or gets more out of less.

Please get me a definitive answer one way or the other.

Scott

Are you serious? What a fascinatingly simplistic and provincial view.

We need one of those "smiley's eating popcorn" emoticons on this board. This guy is going to be one to watch.

Ross Gaudet will not be back. Parker told him so and he has made plans to move on. If you'll notice on College Hockey News, Max Nicastro is also listed on the 2012-13 roster. What does that tell you about it's accuracy?

Wow, Gerbe broke an entire school's (Colby's) wrist? Man, he is powerful.

I KNOW!! [/Monica Gellar]

He could have broken the entire school's wrist and you BC fans would still say it never happened.

Re: Boston University 2011-2012: Part The Sixth

my favorite gerbe moment was when he grabbed a dman's sweater (getting old, can't remember who exactly - maybe sullivan) and fell backwards. sullivan fell on top of him and got a penalty.

gerbe's hockey i.q. is off the charts. when he would jump the boards i would watch him skate exclusively.... didn't even care where puck was. it was a pleasure to watch him play for those years.
