Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

who are we talking about here?

If we're talking about Dennehey at MC, then all I'd have to say is wait a few years. If the Warriors are doing as well in 3 years as they are now, then they're legit. If not, then they're like Lowell, the can't miss team of 2010.

Yeah. BC has 8 and I can think of a few more BU guys. Wilson, Drury, Yip, Bonino, McCarthy, and Van der Gulik have all played in the league this year. I know a coulpe of these guys have been up and down to the AHL and injured but there's more than 3.
If Marty reasoner counts, so does mike. :D

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

NU has so much more to recruit to than Lowell does. The Beanpot, especially. I didnt think Cronin would work at NU, but he's getting the most out of what he can get for players. I agree with you that he may look at brighter pastures. You have to wonder if the CC job opens up (he was an assist there for three years) or the Maine job (hint, hint), he could end up there as he also worked on the bench under Walshy.

The only advantage NU has over Lowell is that it is a private school. No one outside of Boston proper cares about the Beanpot. The Tsongas Center is a great facility and even though Lowell has sucked this season they are still drawing good crowds.

BTW: Lowell is averaging a little over 4,000 a game at home which puts them 5th in HE behind BC, UNH, BU and Maine.

Pretty sure I saw two highlights in ESPN's top 10 on Tuesday morning from the Beanpot final, as usual. That's more exposure than B2 networks, sorry.

Always like how beanpot gets more sportscenter coverage that the national title game :p. Too funny!

I've seen indoor lacrosse and rugby highlights on ESPN. What happened in the sports world on Monday night? Nothing!

Didn't mean to derail your thread BU fans. My bad.

The Beanpot isn't played on two Mondays in February by accident.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Cronin gets the guys who can't get into BC or BU and keeps them competitive.

Not anymore. NU is now a much better school than Sux2BU and has a better athletic program.

BU: Boston's least favorite safety school. :)

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

By my count, BC has 8 (Gionta, Boyle, Reasoner, Eaves, Kobasew, Shannon, Gerbe, and Ferriero). Steve Gionta also got a cup of coffee with NJ earlier this year, too. You are right about Michigan having more than any.

Reasoner definitely did not play with BC in the last decade. Gionta may have, but its pretty close. Even counting him and Steve Gionta, that would be 8 forwards for BC. I count at least 6 forwards from BU that have played in the NHL lately (limiting it to those that left BU since 2001). That is hardly the lopsided picture you have tried to paint.

According to this article http://www.letsplayhockey.com/CollegetoNHL0910.html (discussing the 09/10 season), BU and BC were tied for 3rd most players in the NHL (16) behind Michigan (23) and Wisconsin (17), ahead of Minnesota and North Dakota (14 each).

You can make your arguments about which team is producing more at what position, but the numbers pretty much debunk the claim that BU (or Parker) is clearly poor at developing players. The numbers simply don't support that premise.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Minnesota is the type of program, though, that you know will rebound. Not that BU won't, but there's always this talk about Massachusetts not producing hockey players like they used to. You dont hear that from Minnesota. Minnesota's problem, like BU's, is the coach has been there too long.

Link? Quote? Evidenciary support? Or is it simply more BS that you spout based on nothing more than your subjective fantasy?

Do you serious have nothing better to do with your time than troll BU threads with this nonsense?

Come to think of it, maybe that's why the BC kids stay in school longer?

And BC kids go to a great school in an awesome location but BU kids go to a diploma mill in the middle of the ghetto. No point in staying for four years when you could get shot to death in your dorm room and not have much to show for it when you "graduate."

...yeah, our stretch of comm ave is a real tough place...i wouldn't walk around kenmore square any time of day...

seriously, that's a joke right? neither school is in a bad location, although that kid did get stabbed on BC's campus earlier this school year...

Another difference is that Jack appears to be more of a disciplinarian and Jerry appears to be more of a "father figure". You could see that plain as day in the televised pre-game skates prior to the Fenway game. You can also see it on the bench. Jack often screams while Jerry is often calm. Come to think of it, maybe that's why the BC kids stay in school longer?

I think this is a great point and is a factor in players going to BC/leaving BU early. Parker's style of coaching is not for everyone. He's very hard on his players, as I assume York is, but Parker is more harsh about it. Many of the players who come to BU have either been coddled their whole life because they are superstars on their previous teams or they have not spent that much time outside of a family (billet or biological) atmosphere.

These players come to BU, get their butts kicked in practice every day and then go wild at night. There's nobody there to bring them back to earth, give them some home cooking, and let them just chill out. The BC players talk about a family atmosphere a lot. You don't hear that often from BU players. The season is long and stressful, the players are trying to do their best on the ice while managing to at least keep up with their studies, and then they have a coach who is constantly hard on them. It's a lot to handle.

One of the differences between this team and the 2009 team is that there were a lot of high-impact locals on the 2008-09 squad. Lawrence, Higgins, Gilroy, Strait, Smolinsky, McCarthy - they all had family in the area. This team still has a Gilroy and then there's Warsofsky from Marshfield, Coyle from Weymouth, Ronan from Woburn and Gaudet from Burlington. Warsofsky and Coyle are the only two real impact players, and I can't imagine the team travels up to Burlington for some R&R with the Gaudets.

Pay no attention to him, we all started ignoring him when he claimed in or around late 2008 that Matt Gilroy couldn't play defense.

I don't even go to BU but this is a moronic statement.

If you go to a Beanpot school, you're guaranteed to get to play on national television (NESN on a dish). If you go Lowell, you're guaranteed to have your car broken into.
