Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Selfishly, I'm hoping BU wins the basketball game because it would mean one more hockey game I'd get to go to this week.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Hey I'd want to get the court out of there ASAP too to forget the memories of having just gotten wiped all over it by Hofstra or Georgia State.

Funny, my memory of Georgia State this year is a 70-65 NU win.

And I have VERY fond memories of VCU's trip to Matthews (though that was on a weeknight).

Now, Delaware....THAT's a team I want to forget about...

and if the game goes into overtime, they're screwed even more.

This is probably more likely the issue, and why you mostly see hockey -> hoops DHs. Hockey's OT is a fixed 5 minutes (OK, 5 + shootout now) but hoops can drag on for 2 or 3 OTs, adding 15 minutes each time by the time timeouts and free throw shooting is factored in.

That said, the odds of a 12 PM start affecting a 7:30 or 8 PM game are somewhere around 0.00000000001%. Which, amazingly enough, are the same odds I give NU of winning 2 of 3 this weekend.

Anyone else find it amazing that BU's goal differential is +4 and they've managed to find themselves eight games over .500?

That is probably because they are so good in close games/refuse to win by more than one goal and have got blown out a few games this year(Brown,BC(first weekend)) Idk if it is amazing but not normal for sure so I see your point

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

It's official! Terriers beat Hartford, 54-49 to host the America East Championship game next Saturday at NOON at Agganis Arena. That means the HE Quarterfinal series vs NU will be Thursday, Friday and Sunday (if necessary).

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Colgate just knocked off RPI. Great news for BU.

Edit: BU's still the first team out right now, but that's one bubble team that can't improve its standing any more. Now BU's gotta root for Merrimack, Ferris State and Wisconsin next weekend.

It sets up what could be a great weekend for BU.

Thursday, Friday - HE QFs; Sat - men's bball championship, women's hockey NCAA tournament game, women's bball AE championship; Sunday - HE QFs, if necessary.

On its own yes, given the fact that at 5 games over .500 they had a goal differential of zero... less so;)

Although with so many of BU's goals being "scored by the opposition" in the '09 tourney some may say we had a negative goal differential in the Frozen Four:D

Unfortunately, it seems like any time BU games for separate teams align to have the potential for a great weekend...they all fail miserably.

So here's my gloomy outlook for this weekend:

Men's hockey goes to game three and loses
Men's bball loses by 20 points in front of a crowd of about 1000
Women's hockey chokes and loses
Women's bball wins the game but all the other losses still make it a fail.

I'm going to channel my Negative Nancy persona here and make a suggestion. Can we please have a moratorium on "who we need to root for" for a while and place the focus on BU and root for them? Cuz if they don't hold up their end of the bargain, it really doesn't matter who else wins or loses. All that chatter yesterday about how we need to root for BC so we can finish second because it would be -- on paper -- an easier playoff series with Vermont and everyone seemingly forgot that in order for that to happen, BU needed to win first and foremost.

You don't have to scoreboard watch if you don't want to. Personally, I enjoy it, which is why I talk about it.

ETA: And I don't mean for this post to come off as snappy or anything, which I just realized it might.

Scarlet, I'm very happy for you, and I'm going to let you finish. But Harvard could be having the greatest comeback of all time. Of all time! If they knock off Dartmouth next weekend it's good for them, and it's good for us! :D

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

How hard is it for BU to update their hockey schedule now that the basketball game is over so people know when the games are. No one has officially moved the game to Thursday except CHN. Hockey East Online still has Friday-Sunday and BU has nothing up.

You didn't, and I didn't mean to focus my whining on you. It's just that it seems like every time these discussions happen, what BU needs to have happen happens, and then BU doesn't do what they're supposed to do and it's all for nothing. It's like we're looking past the next games, and that needs to not happen.

I thought we had the greatest comeback of all time in Washington? :) But since you seem to enjoy my Negative Nancy persona......it won't be good for us if we don't knock off Northeastern! ::mad::

That's the truth, sister. Statistics-combing and wishful thinking are fun, but that and four bucks will get you a cup of coffee. (My dad used to say "that and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee." Ha!)

Hey, you can get a small cup of coffee from Starbucks for a buck fifty, or whatever they call that size. If you get too big though, it gets up to about tree fiddy.

Dave is talking HIS $4 (HK$)!

Scarlet thinks what we do affects on ice activity :D!!

I'll take one from column A and one from column B: Scarlet is right that whenever we get to the "all BU needs to do is win to {secure something}" we usually end up scouring the permutations afterward to figure out how we can still make it despite the loss.

That being said, as the great prophet, Lou Reed, would say..."it's gonna take a busload of faith" and though Lou usually leaves it out when performing, the next sentence is "and some help in the other conference tourneys".

So, I'll take an 8 game winning streak starting next game, whenever that may be. Then we need to do less cipherin' and get to do more celebratin'.
