Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

MSU and BU each one a title while MSU also went to a FF in 2001. Isn't 2 > 1???

I believe BU has been to one extra NCAA tournament. They definitely have one more NCAA win. Isn't 8 > 7???

they only beat y'all once in the decade. our boys beat you much more often than that. (though theirs was a big win ;) )

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

This from FS_23's team of the decade thread last year (most people seemed to be in agreement that this revised formula was better than the original):

Making those changes (I knocked Conference Regular Season Titles down to 30 points, and Tourney Titles down to 15. The conference strength factor, was only applied to those two categories), here is what the standings would have looked like.

1. Boston College - 600.172
2. North Dakota - 434.788
3. Minnesota - 406.988
4. Denver - 342.452
5. Michigan - 337.441
6. Boston University - 249.619
7. Michigan State - 241.787
8. New Hampshire - 237.615
9. Maine - 228.968
10. Wisconsin - 171.271
11. Cornell - 149.114
12. Colorado College - 122.893
13. Bemidji State - 106.361
14. Notre Dame - 105.736
15. Miami - 91.980

ETA: I remember thinking national titles should've been worth more, but nonetheless, FS_23 certainly put more work into his formula than anyone on this thread has so far.

I think FF's should carry more weight than tourney appearances.

Maybe, but the point (at least as far as this thread goes) is not to split hairs about which team is 5 v. 6. The point was that, for all the doom-mongering about BU's lost decade, you can make a fair argument that BU has still been one of the top 5 programs of the past 10 years. You may disagree about where they fall in the 4-7 range, but the fact that they can be reasonably kept in the discussion should tell you all you need to know about their purported fall from grace.

That is not to say that I wouldn't like to see them play better, or that they hopefully will play better going forward. The point is merely that their demise compared to the other programs is far overstated in this thread.

two more then, right?

i was promised a series at lynah years ago to follow up RHH..... I'M STILL WAITING!!!!!
i heard whispers of a trip to the Ralph. that would be preferred over more RHH.

i like a campus.

email had 17 home games. 13 are HEA (we have 14h/13a this year). +DU, +the Cross. 15. one exhibition (i hope only 1). 16.

that leaves one more.
of the 2 remaining OOC next year, one single trip. rpi was there this year. so if that keeps on keeping on that's our last home game.

time to guess where we'll be heading for a single.........

also means no christmas tourney, no opening season tourney.

I've also heard whispers of a trip to the Ralph, but I heard that was going to be in a couple years, not next year. So my guess for the final two would be vs. RPI and @ Notre Dame.

I'm not doing an exhaustive list, but I'm sure BC wouldn't have complained if Nick Bonino took his talents from CT to Chestnut Hill.

I agree, Nick Bonino would have been great at BC, but they did not recruit him, according to USHR. I forget the exact date, but the site predicted he was about to commit to Providence over UNH. Then, out of nowhere he visits BU and commits to them. I don't know his situation, but was he a late bloomer?

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Just posted a lengthy breakdown of the Hockey East playoff picture. Yes, I have a lot of free time on my hands.
Nice piece of work, especially with your giving weight to recent trends.

If your crystal ball gazing is right, great! I'd much rather see Sirman than Rawlings; you've got Maine in 5th pretty comfortably. Of course, puck-luck, a hot goalie, a bad call, etc., can turn things upside down.

Maybe my memory is shot but I can't recall a season where (a) home ice was virtually decided so early, (b) hence, there looks to be a gap between 4th and 5th; and (c) there's such a huge gap between the penthouse and the basement.

Didn't we "trade" years with BC that we were going to go to certian touneys? Thats how we ended up at the Shilleagh tounament this year, so aren't we supposed to end up at the Ledyard or something like that? Or am I remembering wrong?

Next year's Ledyard Bank Tournament is Merrimack, Ohio State, St. Lawrence and Dartmouth.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

In regards to Minnesota and Denver winning back-to-back, was their team mostly in tact, or did they have to rebuild? One would think that a strong junior class winning an NC would factor positively for the next year, while BU had a lot of (mostly offensive) defections after their championship.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

just because i hate myself, i actually watched the highlights from this game the vermont game and the nc game earlier today. oh, the good days

re: the game winning goal against UNH. There was no chance in hell that puck makes it to Wilson on the door step. The UNH defender was already down in plenty of time. Without seeing a close up, it's amazing that puck went in the net. Hard to describe. Anyway, all part of the game.

BU has had a better decade than State and Bucky.

igles -hands down #1 (and #2&3 it's been so good)
denver
gopher
sioux
terriers
sparty
bucky

..and it's not even debatable.

It's absolutely debatable.

So I had BU 7th and he had them 6th. Close enough.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

if bu is playing in a GLI or whatnot... then they don't go to notre dame to open their barn and they don't host rpi. AND we have a 2nd exhibition vs usndp.

Yeah, if NU and Maine had the same schedule the rest of the way, I'd pick NU to finish fifth. But they don't. NU's is much tougher.

Originally, BU was supposed to be in the GLI this year and BC next year. Then, rumor had it that the two were going to trade years in the GLI so BU could play in the Shillelagh this year. That ended up not happening, but BU still went to the Shillelagh instead. Colorado College filled the GLI spot and BC will still be in the GLI next year. Not sure if BU has been invited to a future GLI. I'd have to imagine leaving for another tourney didn't sit well with organizers. I haven't heard anything about BU in the Ledyard in the future, although it certainly seems like a natural fit. As irishfan pointed out, they're not in next year's Ledyard field.

If we do play at ND... And there is a home football game that weekend... That would make a great road trip... Hmmmm.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

Well I just renewed my season tickets for next year. I figured I better do it now while there's still a slim ray of hope...

Let's take 4/4 this weekend!

Re: Boston University 2010-11 Part III - Is That So Much To Ask?

So I had BU 7th and he had them 6th. Close enough.

So it seems as if we have established that BU has been somewhere in the 7th to 5th best team of the decade... and there is talk that we want to run the coaching staff out of town?!?! Doesn't this seem like an overreaction to an ugly beanpot consolation game (magnified by the fact that our friends up the road have had a decade of historic proportion?)

Nobody jump off the cliff... its going to be all right everyone....
