Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Jacques,
My expectation is that JP will get full support from the team on this move and it will result in a postive push tomorrow on the ice. Let's hope it will help with a turnaround from the recent struggles the team has been experiencing. My worry is that in games the team has regressed as the season has progressed. Its a young team and I'd expected the opposite to occur.
The young D certainly seems to be headed in the wrong direction.
Any thoughts on that here?

Because I believe they will see it as removing someone that hasn't shown committment and if someone isn't committed to the team, he won't be on the team. Parker made his expectations clear at the end of last season and he is showing follow through, which I believe will be well received by his team.

I'm sure it will be well-received to the kids that do work hard and show up for team meetings but as far as on ice performance will this help them? Or do you mean something else when you said you expect it to result in a "positive push on the ice?"

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Obviously Glass made the cardinal mistake of giving Parker his scotch with ice instead of without and it cost him his spot on the team.

Likely not for additional new players for next seasopn but perhaps for a current walk on or split between walk ons that are not on scholarship... I would think

The last 10-15 years, I believe Coach Parker's stance on this to continue to honor the four year scholarship of the player but not allow him to be apart of the team. A couple examples are Russ Bartlett and Brett Bennett, both with two years remaining eligibility who opted to transfer to other school's to continue their collegiate careers, but who I am both pretty sure were allowed to stay at BU and keep their scholarships. In this case with Glass as a junior who maybe has at best a journeyman ECHL-AHL career ahead of him, I think he may opt to earn his economics degree and keep his scholarship next year.

It wasn't pretty but the Terriers pulled out a victory on the road. I've realized that I have not seen them win on the road - in person that is - so given that we're supposed to get a messy storm on Wednesday, methinks I should stay home on Wednesday.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I'll take it...but, whew! I thought UVM deserved better. Some really good shifts from the 6-10-12 line tonight. They seemed like the only forwards that could hold the zone.

Nicastro should henceforth be referred to as "Mad Max" since he seems to have some anger management issues.

Seriously, this team has no composure whatsoever. What a terrible misconduct to take for... well, I still can't exactly figure out what he was complaining about.

It's two points on the road and I'll take it mostly hoping that this can get things going in the right direction... but it was two points in a game in which we were out shot (if not outplayed) against a lowly team. Here's the interesting stat... it's the teams first road win in two months (Oct 29), how different the world was back then. Considering that, Wednesday @ Mack looms huge and should give us a good idea about the rest of the month, though it only gets tougher from there. Nice to see great games from 31 and 9, we'll need them down the stretch.

Arnie Davis, the Potato Pin man from Alfond Arena is celebrating his 90th birthday this week. I've started a birthday thread in the Cafe. Make sure to post your birthday wishes to one of the few gentlemen from Maine!

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I watched the game on TV.

I thought we played well overall - not a lot of poor passing or ineptitude like we've seen recently. Granted, this is UVM, but I think they have turned a bit of a corner are a better team than their record would indicate. PP looked decent but still needs some work. As does the discipline. Megan took two bad penalties in the first period. Not a good way to try to get the upper hand on the scoreboard. That gave UVM lots of shots, momentum, and confidence which lasted most of the game. As far as Nicastro's explosion, I think it was a combination of giving up the tying goal, getting leveled pretty hard just before it went in, and perhaps thinking the net had come off early (whcih it clearly did not). I like the fire, but he needs to channel it better (like more blasts from the point as on his goal).

Millan played great. Tough luck on the first goal, but you can't blame Noonan for trying to stop that pass from getting through.

Also tough luck for Nieto for hitting that post from in close and not being able to reach the bouncing rebound.

Chiasson is the clear offensive leader on the team. I like him paired with Coyle and Nieto. That line could turn into a force as the season progresses. Was it me or did Coyle fall down a lot?

Trivino is too complacent. He had a play down the left wing when he started cutting towards the net. I am 90% sure that on that same play, Nieto would have cut in front of the net, sacrificing his body for a good scoring opportunity. Trivino took the puck behind the net and no scoring opportunity resulted.

Between the WJC and last night, if I hear Dave Starman use the term "Jam" again I am going to scream. I don't mind him overall as much as I used to, but that phare just irks me.

We all should be so lucky to get that kind of direct feedback, from somebody that 'knows' what it takes, about what we need to do to be successful...Parker may be hard on his players but he certainly knows what it will take to be successful in the long run...might make BU a little less fun, maybe some guys decide to leave because of it...for those that collect paychecks in the NHL for a decent length of time, they probably appreciate it more now than they did while wearing the BU sweater.

We didn't get final stat packs for some reason. Probably because everything about the state of Vermont sucks. I would not say BU had a lot of looks, though. They had 11 attempts in the 1st (that's the only period I have stats for- I thought I got the 2nd, too, but I can't find it), and even fewer in the 2nd. Might've gotten up to 20 or so attempts in the 3rd, but I'd be surprised if they ended up with more than 45 attempts for the game. To put that in perspective, I'd say the average attempts per game for a team is around 60.

BU held onto the puck way too long in the offensive zone and waited for the perfect play to develop. When it didn't, they either dumped it down low, passed it off or turned it over. They need to get it to the net earlier and more often. Sounds simple, but they're just not doing it. Part of that might be because guys aren't crashing the net for tips and rebounds, so even when they do shoot, they're ending up with a lot of one-and-dones. It's like watching a basketball team that stands around until there are 5 seconds left on the shot clock, then throws up an ugly shot and has no one crashing the boards.

On the plus side, breakout passes were much better last night than they've been the last month and a half or so.

I recall the 1st period. AC had it between the circles off a feed and norwood'd it. Someone dug it ou of the corner and it worked back to Noonan, who was also alone and at most three feet behind where clenending shot. Same result... Within 12 seconds.

FL - any talk about the game for Wednesday and the impending storm, like maybe trying to re-schedule? Sadly Merrimack is traveling this weekend or they could have potentially moved it to Friday. Thankfully it's not a long drive, but the team may have to leave at noon in order to make it up there in time.
