Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

After BU got embarrassed at home to BC earlier this year, Parker called them out in the media. The next night they played better, but still lost 5-2. After the 6-1 blowout to Brown, Parker calls them out (in the media, again) and they get a tie/loss to Notre Dame.

Didn't it always seem like when Parker would criticize his team in the media, they would always come out the next game and play great. This is not a good sign that the Terriers are not responding to his lashings.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

PPG for: 11
SHG against: (5)

Egads!! To state the obvious, teams with a stat like that don't accomplish anything in the postseason, if they even make the postseason.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Once again...I'm not really JJ. Just a fan of his. Not sure if this diminshes my credibility on this board...

By way of background I got my BA from BU in 96 and PhD in 2003 (Chemistry).

Haven't missed many home games since 1992...I've seen a lot, not all, but a lot.

I could be wrong, but I think Old Timer was saying good job in jest...(meaning he knows you aren't the real thing).

Personally, I have grown tired of the "lashings". Once or twice a season, it may be the right thing to do to get the team motivated. But when they become more regular occurrences, they lose their effectiveness. Not saying the carrot approach may be better than the stick, just saying sometimes the blame should go elsewhere (though Parker is usually not shy about blaming himself every now and then).

BC is on another planet this year, and that weekend was like men agaisnt boys. The score may have been better the seond night, but I didn't think the play was. The team picked the worst weekend to forget how to skate, pass, shoot, etc. Had they been on top of their game, they might have kept the games close, but they still would have lost. Last night, I actually expected a worse result, given the ND has played better than BU since the first meeting. Plus, they host the tourney. A tie against them ain't the worst thing in the world.

This team needs to find their mojo against HE competition. And on the PP (didn't Colby have like 11 PP goals himslef last season? And now the team only has 11 at the halfway point? Yikes).

I think the public statements about his team have been tamer this season than they were last season and the season before they won the NC. They smack more of exasperation and disappointment than anger. I don't know what goes on in the locker room, but this was about public statements, right?

I have never liked the "lashings." I just think in the past they have been effective.

I think it's horrible to recruit a kid, walk into his living room, tell his parents you are going to watch over him for the next four years, and then rip the kid in the media.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

To quote the hoodie-clad Evil Genius: Everyone needs to do things a lot better. From the coaching staff on down to the team manager.

But, I will say this: You can get an ice cream at HAA in under 5 minutes, so we have that going for us.

BU Hockey: Powers Power Play is Putrid

I'm not a fan of public lashings either. But to use the recruit card doesn't make any sense. A parent or player that has no idea about Jack's MO over the last 38 years just isn't paying attention. If they were horrified by public lashings, why go to BU?

It's pretty good ice cream too! :)

TI hope this team turns this around. Too much talent (like last year) to be having this much trouble.

You really believe that? I think last year should have been expected from BU given the amount of turnover in the roster. This year, they still lost a couple very skilled offensive dmen as well as a few others. The turnover from 2009 has been pretty significant. Looks to me like BU is better than last year, albeit maybe slightly, and that they should be better next year...

yeah. i think (heck, have heard from others) his big push in recruiting is coming to BU will prepare you for professional hockey. whether true (getting the professional part) or not, this is presented to you as the reason you come to school here. some kids come to learn math, accounting, or biology. these kids come to learn hockey. part of learning is what happens beyond. you will be called out if you don't perform to the standard set by the organization at that level. you can expect to get yelled at. you can expect to have things said about you.

nobody is reaching ground here that is not expected or warranted.

if you have thin skin, train for another profession.

As much as it pains me to say it I think JD has a point here however, in my opinion the biggest loss has been Quinn the last two years. I submit Exhibit "A": BU's defense these last two years. How much criticsm did Shatty and Colby get last year and now Shatty is a leading cadidiate for the Calder Cup. Replace Quinn with Powers and could coaching be a factor here?

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

What I wonder is what a general observer would think if s/he happened to watch a BU game this weekend. Would they think "That's a mediocre hockey team"? Or would they think, "That team will be good next year"?

edit: I suppose I can go over to the ND thread, see what they're saying.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Always have to think about early departures, but really, the only threat I see leaving is Warsofsky and that's because the Bruins are in desperate need of mobile d-men. Obviously his size is a question mark, but they've shown they will aggressively pursue college dmen. They signed Penner from UAF and Bartkowski from Ohio State (both early departures). I suppose Trivino could also leave, but not sure how big a loss that would be.

While Warsofsky always wanted to go to BU, you can bet he's always wanted to play for the Bruins more...

Trivino? Not unless he's going to the USHL or some Canadian league. He sure as hell ain't going to the pros. He'd be lucky to have an ECHL spot with the Islanders right now.

Ha, ya, the only reason I mentioned him is because he was a high draft pick. My overall point is that BU shouldn't be seeing the number of important defections they've seen over the last couple years. Although, obviously losing Warsofsky would be huge on the offensive end.

What did they say?

We can do it! We can do it! We can do it, me and you!

(Whoops! That's "The Producers." :o)

They said bupkis. It's pretty quiet in the old ND thread. They've only got about two regular posters over there.

Amen. And anybody here who knows me in real life knows how highly I think of Quinn and how much better I believe the team would be had he not gotten the AHL job he did.

Growing up BU was his favorite team, pro or college, so I'm not sure if that is entirely true; however, I'm sure he dreamed of playing for the Bruins more than the Blues so the trade may still have increased his departure risk.

Also how has a certain player in Buffalo at the moment not been mentioned as one of the more likely players to turn pro, he is the second most likely IMO.

I agree but, like Johnny Dawkins leaving Duke for a head coaching job at Stanford, the program's next head coach needs a good 5+ years of head coaching experience before he comes back.
