Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I just skimmed through the "Maximum games per season" thread and found this interesting tidbit. In the NCAA Bylaws Section 17.2.5.3, in discussing games exempted from the 34-game limit, it says "(f) Foreign Team in the United States. One ice hockey contest each year with a foreign opponent in the United States." Now, wouldn't Toronto and the Sweden U-20s have both qualified as foreign opponents? And thus BU would've exceeded the one-game limit? But UMass played both New Brunswick and the Swedes this year. I know at the time the Swedish game was canceled, I heard the Swedes had visa issues and that's why it was canceled, but I just found that bylaw interesting. Definitely gonna ask Parker about it next week.

Well, enough wondering aloud. Happy Holidays everyone!

Edit: Someone just pointed out in the other thread that UMass only has 33 games against D-I teams on its schedule this year, so they could play both games because one was not exempted from the 34-game limit. Given that, I can't help but think the Sweden game was canceled because BU simply wasn't allowed to play it.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

I asked for and received Sports Illustrated's "The Hockey Book" for Christmas. After going through it somewhat quickly, last night, I highly recommend it for anyone that has some interest in the history of the game. The book is predominantly NHL-focused, but gives adequate attention to international play, and college hockey. I suspect that Canadian Junior fans will feel college hockey recieved too much attention, but I think it makes sense given the fact tha SI is a US-based magazine.

Some BU-related inclusions:
1. a full page spread of E.M. Swift's original "11 Seconds" Travis Roy SI story, including the attention-getting B&W photo looking down on TR as he was wheeled off the ice
2. 2009 Title game being among the 8 "should have been there" games for 2005 to Present (they picked 8 for each era, most of which spanned roughly 20 years
3. Jack Parker being listed (along with York and Mason) among the top 25 hockey coaches of all time
4. Nice photo of Tkachuk duking it out with Byuflien (or however you spell it).
5. Of course a spread dedicated to the Miracle on Ice
6. A few other photos that include former Terriers in the NHL - DiPietro among them

Christmas has come and gone. Likewise, Boxing Day. So how come this thread has been languishing for more than two days? It's not as if there's a lot of action on the Shillelagh thread, either.

In the interest of bumping this thread back to where it belongs, here are a few of questions.

I was under the impression that players were expected back on campus yesterday. Other than locals like numbers 5, 13, 14, and 22, it's hard to believe anyone else made it and it could be a while for some of them. Anyone know how this is playing out -- especially in regard to practices and when they head for Illinois?

And question 2: any notion of the lines with #3 off with the juniors and #12 back? Finally, will there be any TV feed from the tournament this weekend?

Cheers to all and Happy New Year!

Coyle has a goal and two assists already tonight. He's looked very good all tourney.

i dont feel like posting this in the alumni forum.. but matt gilroy had 2 goals last night for the rangers against the islanders (though he colby cohen'd them both off of islander players). it was his first two goal game of his career. he was initially in the lineup a game ago for an injury to del zotto but remained in for an extra night due to his solid play.

Posted this on the BC fan then realized it really applies to y'all. Let's see which team's fans can offer the bigger 'thank you' via facebook 'Like's.

For those of you on facebook - click "Like" on this - http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Swoops-Stoop/169383603098724 - Miami's players are helping cheer up sick kids by visiting them in the hospital and hosting them at games. Cody Reichard is organizer and BC fans owe him a thank you so click "Like". (No offense meant.)

Mostly to bump the thread but Charlie Coyle continues to be a beast at the WJC...

Any guesses on lines with Crisco back?

Turn out the lights on 2010-2011, the party is over.

BU Hockey: They make poor teams look good and good teams look great.

Mike Sullivan anyone?

Time to start panicking?

Or are most people already on that...

Boy, your team is absolutely dreadful! hahahaha.

Re: Boston University 2010-11 part II - The Hunt For Red November

Just glancing at the box score, looks like a Brown player picked up a checking from behind major in the 3rd. Don't know who the BU player was, but hope no injury involved.
