Cisse's done for the season. Check the link my in sig for details.

How much bad luck can one kid have? He can look to Ruikka for an example of perseverence.

From BU Hammer's article posted today: "The injury is the same one that cut Cisse's United States Hockey League season short last year."

From another freep blog article posted after the Wisconsin game: "Parker said that the newest injury was on the same ankle but was not the same type of injury."

When did the injury go from not related to directly related to last year's tendon slice?

well wasn't the first injury he cut the tendon with his skate?!?! i don't believe he was cut, but it could very well be the same area on the tendon. so they are both right! :p

Re: Boston University: 2010-11 part I - "so...you're saying i get a calendar??"

It took far longer for the swelling to go down than they had anticipated. Parker said I believe two weeks after the injury that he suspected he may have re-injured the tendon, but they couldn't tell for sure because it was still too swollen. They were waiting to get an MRI, which they finally did (admittedly, I don't know exactly when). When we talked to Parker today, he said Cisse had undergone the surgery earlier in the day, was done for the year, and confirmed that it was the same injury as he had suffered last year.

We never did figure out for sure what happened last year, but I thought I read somewhere that he just tore the tendon, and there wasn't anything to the sliced by a skate rumor. It's possible I missed something definitive in writing somewhere, but I know the end result was a torn tendon.

Poor kid. At least Ruikka dealt with two unrelated season-ending injuries. Here's to a full recovery.

It was definitely sliced by a skate last year. That's what actually caused the tear the way I understand it. I've heard of that happening in hockey before. I don't know if "torn tendon" in medical terms means something exact, but his ankle tendon (I presume his Achilles, but I'm not 100% sure of that) was severed by a skate.

As far as when it went from not being related to last year to being the same injury, I'm not exactly sure, but here's how it all played out as far as I know. It was originally believed to be nothing more than a twisted ankle. We know this because A) Parker said so, and B) Cisse wasn't even in a boot right after. Had they known it was more severe, Parker would've said so and he would've been in a boot right away. So at some point, it either A) Got worse, or B) Simply didn't get better. Either way, the swelling didn't go down- as Hammer mentioned, as many as two weeks later there was still too much swelling to make an official diagnosis. Obviously one of the doctors who looked at it said he might've re-torn the same tendon and might need surgery, and Parker relayed that to us. Then once the swelling went down, that was obviously confirmed and then he got surgery.

why just 30 minutes ago i was talking to two guys who played at the olympic club last weekend. we were talking about all the holes and what we shot on each. they had a great time. one of them then says, "when did you play out there?"
"hmmm.." i pause- "i think my oldest son was 1, so it would have been 10+ years ago."

Van Der Gulik scored on Schneider last night.

Yes, and broke his shutout bid with just over 3 minutes to go, hurt my fantasy team. :p

Also, Shattenkirk did play, but apparently didn't want a souvenir as he put a puck over the glass. ;)
He also logged almost 21 minutes of ice time.

GQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ! Good to hear.

So I was looking at upcoming games to check on game times/travel, etc. The game at RPI is at 3:30?? What a weird time for a game.

Shattenkirk is the 63rd Terrier to play in the NHL.
Video interviews with Shattenkirk, VDG and Sacco.

Time-Warner cable picked up the game, but had it moved from evening to afternoon. NHL Network will also air that game.

I'll be interested to see the improvements to Houston Field House. Still have nightmares about crawling the catwalk to the broadcast location (long, long ago).

Wonder if that's better or worse than having to climb a ladder to get to the UVM press box.

IIRC correctly there was a ladder at Houston you had to climb to reach the catwalk. Is Gutterson still extremely cold inside? I recall some frigid nights there.

There is a two-page color spread on BU's freshman class in the new issue of The Hockey News (dated 11/15). Focus is on Sahir Gill--whom THN has at the top of its list of NCAA freshmen--but also talks about Nieto, Clendening, Coyle and Cisse. Should've included Noonan whose been a nice surprise. I'll post a few excerpts on the blog tonight.

those are just steep stairs, not ladders.

I mean, I guess it does have railings, so it's not technically a ladder. But to call those stairs in any way, shape or form is a disservice to stairs everywhere. They're metal, steep and have gaps in between. Much more ladder-like than stair-like. Possibly some hybrid inbreed of the two. That would fit UVM well, right?

So, Scarlet

VDG = GQ
Zancanaro = Sweet Pea

Laliberte is going to feel left out...

Interesting. I've long enjoyed fantasy glory without any former eagles gracing my team. No Habs either. Come to think of it, I won't ever roster a Jet, Laker, or Yankee either. Just can't do it.
