THIRD????? :eek::eek:

Don't look now but they do have the best record in the country out of teams who have played more than 2 games, AND that is without having the full roster available for any one game (2 suspensions, 1 injury).

I don't find myself saying "Wow they look like one of the top 3 teams in the country" while watching the games, but looking at it on paper I see no reason why they shouldn't be.

THIRD????? :eek::eek:

I had a feeling this would happen. I knew they would be ahead of BC. They are undefeated after all.

Everyone say it with me: Poles in November mean NOTHING.

Re: Boston University: 2010-11 part I - "so...you're saying i get a calendar??"

numbers are arbritary right now. there is not a true 'high impact high talent' group to fill lines. coyle may, nieto may... but they haven't reached that level yet. trivino is a role player/play maker - not a finisher.

heck, joep has been on the top line for most of the season.

i'm looking for players (from what i've seen so far) who have games that may mesh. trivino has the ability to control the puck and skate around with it and find players. chiasson this season has shown the improvement to be able to get in spots and finish. nieto (so far) has not. while he has speed (witnessed by his breaking through those two chiefs saturday night), he has not yet shown to me the ability to react and convert off the speed of others around him (offensive teammates and defense guarding his line without the puck). may it come? hopefully. but if he had been able to convert i easily count four goals he should have that didn't happen. coyle is a shot to solve that.
-so that is one line.

i like the energy the G unit (someone named that, i'll keep it) has together. i'll keep that too.
-another line.

joep hussles continuously all night. not the most gifted player in the world, but his effort is top notch. santana (i've read) has almost one "wow" event every practice and chatter was to expect a breakout year for him. 10-15 goals were not out of the question. whether or not that translates to games, we'll have to see. gill, after the 'touted recruit' to the 'left the ushl' to some posters (our own bush beater hokydad) claiming he didn't have speed to play in our league, yada yada yada, has been great to watch. right place, right time. finishes. kinda a good match with the other two. like i added below, joep is a transition player. unconvential rushes, looks for quick odd-man opps. santana and gill both can take faceoffs - plus both could take the puck and move it toward the net and allow joe to run in there and bang it home (which is where most of his goals will come, not on the carry).
-that's another line.

then by default i have connolly, megan, and nieto. all very good players (either proven or potentially). wade can center and has the best faceoff % of our centers. connolly can finish. but is a rush player as well (for example his gwg saturday). i don't see him as a 'cycler'. i don't see nieto like that (with the small sample to date). nieto though now plays with two guys who cycle very well-and to me is miscast. so let these three guys skate transition and fill lanes and see what happens.
-that's my last line.

send out trivino 1, megan 2, santana 3, gaudet 4. order doesn't matter, though on 'talent' that order probably works in doling out the minutes we'd all like to see allotted.

I don't know that I disagree with that, and we obviously saw great success with a guy we thought was a fourth liner (McCarthy) playing with two of the better players in college hockey in 09. However, I still just see no evidence that Santana can even be that kinda guy, and I don't like the idea of him being the guy with possibly our most creative player in Gill. I know Nieto hasn't done it yet but we've seen some flashes of talent and I'd rather see him continue to get a chance with Trivino, and I like the Connelly, Coyle, Pereira line as it is too. Frankly, I think you could probably have Santana's energy with Gilroy and Gaudet and promote Glass up to play with Megan and Gill and that would still give you four well-rounded lines.

That said, the lines are clearly working pretty well offensively on the road so we may be debating something that doesn't need to be changed...unless it's a home game.

with possibly our most creative player in Gill.

Creative? Are you sure?

I remember someone around these parts saying all he does is skate up the wing and look for a pass or something. :p

Agree with with the Santana and Nieto assessments. Disagree with anyone suggesting the break up of G unit:p

As long as it isn't some bizzaro world where we're great before the holiday break and suck after New Years instead of the usual arrangement of that time table, this could be a great season.

The team is young though and it'll be all about how they respond to the inevitable first time then get smacked around badly for a few games in a row.

Hold on, is this April Fool's Day? A Northeastern fan saying something nice about anything to do with BU!? This is a true sign of the Apocalypse.

So here are the next eight games:

Maine
at Merrimack
Merrimack
at UNH
UNH
Brown
at BC
BC

What kind of record would it take to keep you optimistic about this season's chances? What would leave you disappointed? Given what we saw Merrimack do against BC (could have swept), I think it is clear that they are a good team this year. So there is only one "easy" game on here in Brown (forgive me if they are good, I am just assuming, given that they are, you know, Brown.)

For me, a split, leaving us at 10-4-1 would still have me feeling pretty good. Anything better would be a plus and would tell me that this team really is a top 5 type of team. Winning three games wouldn't kill the season or anything, but would show this team that they have some work to do. Two wins or less would be a real bummer.

I agree- 4 wins would have me thinking this team is for real. One win apiece against MC, UNH and BC and a win over Brown. Picking up a tie or two or picking up another win along the way to avoid 4 losses would be a bonus. Basically, anything .500 or better during this stretch is good. They're probably still a top 10 team if that happens.

Just looking over the MC schedule...it's at agganis on Friday and at Lawler on Saturday correct?

Nice post. This is a key stretch. I doubt it will be as simple as splits all around.

My gut tells me they lose to Maine, split with the Mack, Take 3 or 4 from UNH and take 1 or none from BC. (Brown, duh.) That would leave them at 9-3-3. (3 points from UNH, 1 from BC.) I'll take it.

But enough with this rational, thoughtful approach. If they lose to Maine Saturday, I will declare that the season is over, they suck, and wonder where the glory days have gone. :)

And he capitalized BU. I hear you can have your diploma revoked for doing that.

Might head to Agganis Saturday night as MissClaver2010 is out of town & BC is on the road for football. No chance this game sells out right?

Probably not, but our attendance numbers have been higher this year. Amherst drew a couple under 6k, Lowell and PC despite being on bad nights (halloween and parent's weekend) both drew well. You'll probably be able to grav a seat before the game, but with two top 10 teams, a solid travelling fan base for the road team, and very recognizable rival for our fans, this one may come pretty close despite the disgustingly high prices.

Another thing, I remember reading somewhere that BC had moved the student sections for hockey games to upper balcony sections. Is this true and where are they? I'm probably going to have to get tickets for our game there from BC and I'd like to stray from those areas.

That was the plan but some idiots who aren't hockey fans vetoed it (I mean honestly first row behind the glass is a terrible view opposed to upper deck center ice).

Thing is the three middle sections were always student sections (well definitely the middle) but on Friday all 3 were filled and I assume they will be come first weekend in December. I think with the increasing irrelevance of BC football (thanks GDF! Spaz was a great hire!) hockey will see the uptick. I assume tonight won't be a well attended game (who made the schedule?) but Friday against UNH will be more tellling.

Yeah it was a nice write up. I liked the line about how Parker is under as much stress when he's not coaching compared to when he is coaching.

However I think the best part of the article was the end paragraph.
The BU team is already looking like it has more energy than it has since 2009. This could turn out to be a season that Jack Parker will be glad he decided not to bypass.

Highlighted that part. Kinda clever but also pretty cheesy. But funny none the less.

On a side note...thread information says there are 18 members and 88 guests browsing this thread. 88?! Didn't think this thread was that popular.
