Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Announced sellout at 18,200. A few were dressed as empty seats but it was far more crowded than last time. 65/35 CU is my estimate. CU had a lot of people there, some watched the game, the rest wandered around and stood in front of people while talking in the aisles. The BU fan section had a huge contingent of CU fans.

Good BU video, last time BU wasn't as prepared. Good cameo from Matt Gilroy rooting on the terriers via video.

BU band was larger than Cornell, and better.

Hotdog rode the zamboni, BU won the 2nd per intermission race.

Saw lots of BU fans at ESPN Zone this afternoon.

Can't wait til next time.

bu turned a small corner tonight. we finally saw some heart and fight in these guys during crunch time despite their legs being totally gone and scrivens playing fantastic. they couldve wilted after cornells third goal and instead fought back and absolutely dominated the third period. more improvement tonight, i was very proud and happy when they skated off the ice tonight. also thought despite two early softies rollie recovered well and made some big saves in his first 'big stage' game..hopefully this gives him potentially necessary experience for beanpot and any possible playoff games

You're calling a breakaway a softie? That's a little harsh.

Certainly wasn't a softie, but for how early he goes down in the butterfly I was stunned to see him beat anywhere down low like that. Thought he was great after that, his pads were very fast on some quick shots in the second period.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

It looked like Rollie showed the 5 hole to tease the shooter into shooting there...and then couldn't close his pads fast enough.

As far as breakaways go, it was soft, but come on, it's a breakaway, leave the guy alone.

He made some amazing saves last night.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Maybe Rollie has been introduced to pine mattress girls recently?!? ;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Rollie didn't look that good in those first 10 minutes. He definitely settled down for the rest of the game. I was surprised at the low number of shots he faced. I won't fault him for the breakaway goal. I'm more dismayed at the play that lead to it.

Couple of golden opportunities missed in the third - one by Glass, the other by Pereira.

I'll take that point. Very fun atmosphere, almost playoff like. The MSG folks I chatted with thought it was a great event and want this game to come back every year.

I kept waiting everytime the Cornell band played "Give my regards to Broadway" for the 4 tractors and guys with I love Saskatchewan on their shirts to come skating onto the ice like the old days.

Especially loved the "safety school" chant from the Canadian and upstate NY "farmers".

I'd love it to continue as an every other year or even every 3rd year. Keep fans looking forward to it and it will continue to sell out.

I agree. In addition, I had two extra tickets and brought a couple of friends who are hockey fans but had no knowledge or interest in college hockey, and they both loved it as well. They kept talking about the atmosphere, the bands, and the back-and-forth chants between the fans. If MSG can promote it to NYC hockey fans, it might even draw an interest in college hockey as a whole.

What about potentially switching between TD and MSG? That way both teams can have home games. :D

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I was going to ask you guys what you thought of the event, but it sounds like my questions has already been answered! Sounds like it's really cool, I'd love to get to check it out sometime.

A friend of mine at BC is from the area and has a couple family members with Cornell ties so he's gone to the game the couple times they had it. He's had a great time as well.

Actually, that sounds like a fantastic idea; the game could probably happen every year if that were the case because MSG and the TDG wouldn't have to deal with it each year. Also, then it'd be much easier for me to go! :D

So... going into a weekend with two home games, huge implications and a BC game on the schedule I'm wondering how people are feeling about the goaltending situation. Rollie let in a PP goal that he probably could have stopped and maybe could have looked better on the breakaway goal but did very well, I think, for his first big game situation. In my opinion at 1-0-2 he still deserves some more time, any thoughts on starters vs Vermont and BC?

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

I should clarify since I wrote that from my phone while riding home half asleep. The breakaway wasnt really a softie, I just thought his technique on it was not good. He made a move early to go down, but then took his stick out of the play by holding it to his side in the air. I thought he might have been indecisive about whether to poke or to hold it on the ice. Either way, the stick was a non-factor for the shooter who was able to easily slide the puck between his pads.

This is of course would never have happened if our defenseman didnt get caught in an awful pinch and the other defenseman (i think these were #3 and #25 respectively) didn't recognize this until it was way too late and the cornell forward was 20 feet ahead of him.

Nonetheless, great game, great atmosphere - almost better than last time - and an overall fantastic event. While this might be a "gimmick game" like Fenway, it's one I'd like to see happen again in the relatively near future. Alternating TD and MSG would be great, but I'd also like to see some games at home rinks as well, I'd love to get up to Lynah.

i can't see TD getting more than 8k. in fact, i doubt HAA would sell out.

i am ready for Lynah. next year better be a ride to Ithica!!

I think enough Cornell people would make the trip to sell out HAA, even if home town support wouldn't as large as BC or even recent Michigan games...

Lynah... from what I read/hear I would worry about being able to get a ticket for myself!

I promise you Parker continues the Millan/Rollie platoon at least through December. My guess is the order stays Millan then Rollie, no matter the opponent, until one proves to be far superior to the other. Also, if they keep their current order, Millan will get the start at Fenway, which I think is what Parker would want.

As far as Rollie's performance, the first goal was an absolute softy. After that, he was as good as he's ever going to need to be for this team to win, although Cornell did get a post in the third and another in OT (the one in OT was on a 2-on-1 break, don't remember the one on the third but was told it happened).

last time Big Red visited our barn.

11/24/01 att: 3,730
11/25/01 att: 2,820

and that was to see two games. not a drive/flight & hotel for one-and-done.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread Part the One

Millan vs. Vermont
Rollie vs. BC
Millan vs. RPI
Rollie vs. UMass
Millan vs. BC (Fenway)

I'd be shocked if this doesn't happen (barring any injuries, of course). Rollie hasn't faced BC yet, so that'd be good. And Millan at Fenway is fair since Rollie got MSG.
