Congratulations to Nick Bonino.

3A tonight

40-60--100 for his career in 101 games.;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Oh, and the opening video has been revised to remove all mention of any of the championships won last year. Hmmmmmmm. They did add the Cornell MSG and the BC Fenway game. Veddy interesting.

That's good news- I missed the game tonight but it's been getting annoying how happy the student section gets when they flip the numbers for every championship. Last year was great and all but this year has been so incredibly disappointing that it's hard to even enjoy it.

Anyway, good win tonight. Can't complain when you beat a team above you in the standings (even if that is pretty much everyone at this point).

Nick Bonino is a good teammate. His 100th point was the result of dishing to Luke Popko for his first goal of the season. It looked to me that he put a little extra effort into the play as he setup up Popko twice in a matter of seconds.

Really fantastic win. I just hope that the team can break their good game-bad game streak. Because a bad game Monday would suck.

Well, it's not tomorrow, so I suppose that's a positive.

That was a big 2 points tonight.

Yip: 6 goals, 7 assists and a plus 7 in 17 games with BU West.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

the title of this thread is misleading.... how are we not going to get to a 4th thread at the rate people post on this thread?

Allow me to assist. Let me take a moment to introduce myself as a 45 year old former hockey player (about 45 pounds ago) turned BU season ticket holder as of 5 years ago. I've read thousands of posts, mostly on the BU threads, from many intelligent hockey fans. Thought I would jump in.
I thought tonight may have been the team's best performance of the year. I like 11 and 9 on the same line together. Some real strength there. May have been Millan"s best game of the year as well. Gaudet and Megan, among others, are showing some real promise.
Shocking the parity in HE this year. BU smokes#2, now #3 Umass twice @ HAA, wins in over BC, UNH loses to Mack, etc.
I look forward to reading your comments in the future

Wow, the podcast highlights are up already. The game ended, what, 3 hours ago? Amazing. :)

BU Hockey: 5-2-0 in '10.

let's not go and start sucking each others popsicles just yet... we've still yet to see anything north of a 2-game winning streak;)

so even after the boys smoke nu monday, they still have somethin to prove in lowell friday.

[though that lowell game can win the season series, and the two at home vs umo can potentially do the same... ]

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Thought it was the most motivated game I've seen from the boys all year. They looked hungry tonight (though as Scarlet commented during the game, they did win inspite of their inability to pass!) - hope it wasn't just because it was the captain's birthday.

I still maintain that there should be a new drill at practice where each player spends 15 minutes per practice chained to the net and forced to make shots within a 3-5 foot radius. The number of missed shots from that range is atrocious.

Also - happy to see another SHG last night (just fun to see). If I remembered correctly, this is the second (or maybe even third) year that BU has been in the top of the nation in SHG.

I was amazed by how effectively Popko put both those chances at net. They were both crisp passes from Bonino –– the types of passes we've seen his linemates whiff on or mishandle all season. Bonino threw Popko two centering passes in a 10 second span and he managed to turn both of them at net.

Would hate to generalize or make assumptions from such a small sample, but if Popko can turn those passes on net with some regularity, I wonder if he could be like a Jason Lawrence Jr. to Bonino's Colin Wilson. I doubt we see those two playing together too often outside the PK, but it was refreshing to see somebody finishing on the end of Bonino's passes.

Maybe because they tend to take so many penalties they have more shorthanded chances?

Ross Gaudet is my happiest surprise of the year so far... anybody disagree?

I think it's pretty hard to argue with that. Pereira has been very good as well, but I expected him to step up the way he has.

If he really wasn't good enough to ever bump Glass/Gilroy from the lineup last season, then he's made a huge improvement. And something this team needed is appears during this hot streak of his.
