Watching last year's Beanpot Final. At the time, BU was 17-0-0 (that game excluded) when leading after 2. What was the final record for leading after 2 for BU? That includes any games that might have gone into OT, even if BU won it in OT.

Every game where we led after 2 we won in regulation it seems. We didn't lead any of the ties after 2 periods, nor the 1 remaining loss to Maine.

They've started the national anthem -- time to head over to the scores thread!

Why does this team have such problems finishing plays? Can setup plays but can't finish.

I ask myself the same question but you know what, that's the game of hockey and many other sports. Those who can execute win and those who can't, well...., you know.

??? talent?

Well, it takes talent to setup the plays. But there's no goal scorers on the team it seems. This was the first time in a while I've had a chance to watch the team for any length of time.

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Just got back from the bar...

- A gritty effort by both teams, BU's higher skill level won out. Lots of stretches of wide open play with odd man rush after odd man rush...a coaches nightmare.
- My players of the game for BU: it's a toss up between Gryba and Shattenkirk. Gryba was a defensive beast, Shattenkirk looked like he is certainly ready for the AHL at this point, if not more - very smooth at both ends of the ice
- some sloppy giveaways - those won't fly against BC. Bonino had two on the power play, Periera had that terrible clearing attempt that led to Gaudet to have to take the penalty in the last two minutes (though I'm not sure it wa even a penalty - he really knocked the guy down with his body, not his stick)
- Good to see Chiasson finally get a goal. Seems like it's been a very long time
- Vinny had his patented wide open net whiff.
- How many shifts did the 3rd and 4th lines have in total all game - 12? Seemed like Megan's line was not out there much, or at least I didn't notice him much. I would rather see him out there than Trivino. Megan is stronger and uses his size better.
- NU fans may complain about the 5 minute major, but in reality it helped them. It let Cronin really get on the refs, and after BU was ineffective on the PP, NU seized the momentum. Two quick calls on BU and all of a sudden NU has a two man advantage, which they cashed in on. I don't think they get that if that major isn't called. And then to get that Power Play for the last 90 seconds - what a golden opportunity for them to tie it.
- Great to see Millan have his second (or is it third) strong game in a row.

from the live view i thought it was a BS call. but when they used the high camera behind the net you could plainly see Ross came in with the stick out and reached across the entire husky's body. legit call, no doubt.

I had a lot of thoughts while watching the game, but they weren't all that significant, so I'll just go with the obvious.

Millan is back.

i made a comment in the game thread... but it goes here too.

friday is no doubt the most important game of the year... they can actually have a winning streak greater than two games if they win. haven't done it yet. 4th chance is friday. don't do it here, not too many opportunities left.:(

-not only that, they'd get to .500 too;)

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

Amazing. I had the entire bar staring at me as I yelled at the TV repeatedly, but it was totally worth it. (Although after four beers (when I weigh 115 lbs), I'm not looking forward to my alarm going off at 5 am).

That flurry in the first was incredibly frustrating, and Chiasson's goal was honestly just lucky. But I really thought the team competed fairly well and played with a great deal of confidence and poise, especially Millan.

Pereira is back to his bad ole ways in this. Three or four times tonight he got rubbed out on lone breaks.

Also, what is with Nicastro being so porous on the point?

It was a really great play that led to Chiasson's break and he did a good job biding before taking the shot. There was luck involved for Rawlings not to handle it cleanly, but it was a good play and nice shot.

Kind of sad a bit because he's shown flashes of talent, but how do you justify giving rollheiser any meaningful minutes from here on out? that's three starts in a row where millan has looked very sharp, and two in a row where he was (or should have been) the first star.

i think both of these observations are unfair in that it was really just one game. it was nicastro's first beanpot, after all. give the guy a break. and as for joey, he's been one of the hardest working guys on this team all season and is entitled to a bad game. i'd much rather him have had his tonight and get it out of the way and be ready for friday/monday :D

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

And just like that, we're a TUC. RPI of 24, plus we win 2 pairs over ND and MN so were tied for 22nd in the PWR. For the first half of theseason we had, out TUC record isn't all that bad at 6-7-3. The door isn't totally shut on these guys, there are some opportunities in front of them.

because these observations are from the game not the season as a whole makes them unfair? he didnt say they were bad players:confused:

what is different about a very underwhelming beanpot crowd that would make him play worse than he did in msg or fenway? he had an off game, it's not an insult of him as a player or person, give the other posters a break.

joey works that hard to make up for his lack of d1 level strength and talent, which is admirable, its not a bad game, its that hes not strong enough, he needs to get rid of the puck earlier, simple as that
