Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread III: From the Beanpot until the end...

I know it. Two serious injuries in two games in a row for the same team. That's almost impossible.

I talked to the AD there yesterday afternoon before the game, and he said the kids and community was already very shaken. Rumor is the surgery for the first kid, Matt Brown, was successful, although I haven't been able to reach the AD to confirm that.

Certainly would hope you all will keep them in your prayers though.

Tragic and moving stories. My prayers definitely go out to the families involved. I've read Travis Roy's book, and just from vicariously seeing what he went through, I hope that these injuries do not end up as severe.

I'm less on Whitney's case than the rest because he played with a bunch of freakin' stiffs. I can't count how many times he made a perfect pass up ice to catch a forward in stride, only to have the puck hit the other player on the back of the skate or bounce over their stick. Put him on BU's team last year with his skill and he scores 50 points.

Second kid has a severe concussion, but appears to be fine. Also, surgery on the first kid, Matt Brown, went as well as they could hoped. They're still unsure about his paralysis.

That's great news about the concussion (as odd as that sounds). I hope that when the swelling goes down Matt Brown's prognosis is good as well.

the title of this thread is misleading.... how are we not going to get to a 4th thread at the rate people post on this thread?

And I don't think McConnell quite reaches the "bust" category. He was a decent player. Whenever I saw him play, he looked like he was giving 100% effort. From what I have read/heard, he got high marks as a leader and teammate too. In his case, I think the problem was more hype than was deserved. But I agree, when considering that class as a whole, BU got much less than was expected.

I know his career can't be viewed as a whole yet, and he hasn't even been that great this year (but who has?), but I'd have to count Chris Connolly as a pleasant surprise considering he was completely unheralded.

Connolly was in the Top 20 on the USHL recruit rankings in 2008 so I am not sure thats unheralded

Yeah, that was a phenomenal class according solely to the pre-season rankings. Considering the surplus of attention that went Trivino and Saponari's way, Connolly wasn't expected by many to be the first to adapt, but considering he was overage it wasn't a huge leap in expectation. He exceeded expectations, but we knew he was going to be talented.

Don't forget the US18's captain got a good amount of the attention for that class also.

Yeah, but he didn't disappoint like the others. :p Seriously, he was impressive right from the exhibition on.

Yeah, I guess I didn't phrase it correctly. I didn't really mean unheralded, just that I didn't expect as much from him from the outset as he produced.

Oh, and the opening video has been revised to remove all mention of any of the championships won last year. Hmmmmmmm. They did add the Cornell MSG and the BC Fenway game. Veddy interesting.

we could use 3 or more... but that would be a tough get.;)

that's the whole problem... if we were introduced as "defending triple crown champions" as we should be, i think the boys would play with purpose! (of course it's all that old guys fault:mad: :p )
