Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

Yesterday I posted on the blog about the 5 biggest crowds to ever see a BU game having taken place in the past 26 months.

Besides Scarlet (mais oui), who else can claim they were at all five?

Frozen Fenway vs. Boston College at Fenway Park 1-8-10 Att. 38,472
NCAA Championship Game vs. Miami at Verizon Center, Washington D.C., 4-11-09 Att. 18,512
NCAA Semifinal vs. Vermont at Verizon Center, Washington D.C., 4-19-09 Att 18,512
Red Hot Hockey II vs. Cornell at Madison Square Garden, 11-28-09 Att. 18,200
Red Hot Hockey I vs. Cornell at Madison Square Garden, 11-24-07 Att. 18,200

Missed the first RHH (starts banging head on desk for umpteenth time), but made the other 4.

I went to 4/5 and I have lived in SD the entire time.

Would have gone to Fenway if it was an odd number year.

I was at all but the Vermont semifinal, oddly enough. These were all fantastic games as well.

"Whenever possible, the master logo should appear in the University’s red."

Just curious... the University's red is actually a shade of red that isn't really that close to scarlet at all. Scarlet is defined by the hue being slightly towards orange. Every once and awhile you overhear someone at a game saying "It's not red... it's scarlet," and it seems like as a school color that's actually a semi-important distinction. UM alums/students are usually quick to correct that it's not yellow, it's Maize. But that makes sense, because they're jerseys and clothing/flags are actually made in Maize, which is slightly different than just plain yellow.

Our jersey's are red... our flags are red... the bookstore sells signs that I've seen at games that say something like "Get your red on."

It seems to make sense that if everything color-wise related to the university is going to be red, not scarlet, the school color should just be red (though Rhett would be sad), but wouldn't it make sense if the school color is Scarlet to make everything in Scarlet instead of a color called "Boston University Red."

I know I'm being picky here... but has anybody else ever been annoyed by this?

1) You have too much free time. :D

2) Interesting. I had always though scarlet was a darker red for some reason, like darker than red, but not as dark as maroon or crimson. Shows what I know. I don't think I've ever seen anything at BU that is truly scarlet then. Everything's red, plain and simple. I've seen some stuff that is darker than regular red, which I had always assumed was scarlet, but apparently isn't. I wonder if there was a time when BU actually did use scarlet? Maybe they just gradually moved away from it, but people continued to refer to it as scarlet for tradition's sake?

I'm pretty sure the home jerseys are closer to scarlet than BU red. I recall holding one up against a red sweatshirt when debating this very point with my friends, and it was a slightly different shade.

We went to the first Red Hot Hockey game. We made a point of not going to the second one.

We were at Verizon Center for the 09 Frozen Four...and what a treat that was!

Sadly, we didn't get to Fenway. I had bad luck on the day the tickets went on sale.

But we did watch the game on NESN. (at least we were warm).

So, we were three for five. And if I had to pick....I'd take BU in the Frozen Four over Cornell at MSG any time.

I definitely have too much free time... no doubt about that.

It's an interesting question. Using more of my incredible amount of free time I found that there is at least one more school that claims it's school color is scarlet but doesn't use a shade of red that actually resembles it... Ohio State. Apparently their officially school colors are Scarlet and Gray but their jerseys and flags are nowhere near scarlet. The same goes for St. Lawrence... though their red is at least light.

I'm pretty sure the home jerseys are closer to scarlet than BU red. I recall holding one up against a red sweatshirt when debating this very point with my friends, and it was a slightly different shade.

You're right... ish. The jersey's are definitely lighter than "Boston University Red" but they don't tint towards orange like scarlet should.

Jack Parker is on 98.5 The Sports Hub right now talking about the Terrier's season up to this point.

And now he's off.

Wasn't able to get to the FF game against UVM because of school, but 4 out of 5 ain't bad.
