Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

anyone know if there's video of gilroy and boyle from their nesn stint online?

Not sure, but I can arrange it.

Yip was 3rd star tonight with 1G, 1A. (goal video) He also took a shot in the shootout and ripped one but hit the crossbar.

McCarthy logged some minutes and ended up a -1, haven't had a chance to see the goal against but we've seen enough that it likely wasn't his fault. :D

You've heard of letdown games right? :p After a huge game like that, confidence will be high. However, I just have a feeling that enough of these guys know there's a long road ahead still.

I like there chances for a good weekend. Whether its 3 or 4 points I think they are playing teams they believe they will beat and that the momentum of the first two games of 2010 will continue.

Matt Gilroy-D (5/10/05)
Steve Smolinsky-RW (5/19/04)
Brandon Yip-RW (5/14/04)
Chris Higgins-RC/LW (1/10/04)
John McCarthy-LC (6/17/03)
Jason Lawrence-RW (5/15/03)

I know that everyone likes to think of certain kids as 'walk on''s (even Puck Swami once waxed nostalgically about Adam Berkhoel as a drafted, early commit - 'walk-on' at denver), but John gave a verbal commit to BU a full 2+ years before he showed up in the fall of 2005. with only 18 full scholarship dollars available for a team of 24-28 there are only a few "full" players, but there is an understanding that some money is going to most of the players.

Good points, Mookie. And there's also a distinction between recruited walk ons--which McCarthy was--and unrecruited ones like Gilroy and Matt Radolovich.

Checking the list of Terriers in the NHL (link posted today on the blog), I discovered it wasn't that long ago when a BU squad had two recruited walk ons who reached the NHL. The 1993-94 squad was captained by Doug Friedman and included freshman Mike Grier. Unrecruited walk on Kenny Rausch also was on that team.

Agreed. I think this team now knows that every game matters point-wise. Usually a big win at Fenway over BC would put us in the prime for a loss, but I think the added mental boost of finally being out of the cellar of Hockey East will show these players that there is hope to really put a good run together.

We've already experienced our full measure of trap games and letdown games. ... 4pts this weekend.

I think you're right... at the least the team should know they really need those four points against a PC team that has shown no signs of life and a Merrimack team that has returned to the cellar going into a weekend with @BC and UNH...

Something around 6 out of 8 points over these two weeks has to be close to a requirement and it would be wishful thinking to predict we're going to get more than two that second weekend.

Alright, which one of you guys was the drunken fan who heckled me while my friends and I were crossing the BU bridge to get to my friend's apartment in Cambridge? I know it was one of you, because after I talked him down from the trash talk, he talked at great length with me about World Juniors and how great Kreider and Warsofsky were despite being hammered to the point of oblivion.

Reveal your identity, I'll send you the pictures we took together near the BU bridge. Go USA
Hmmm, wonder if this was the same guy I saw about 20-30 minutes after the game. He stumbled across Comm Ave near GSU high-fiving everyone he saw. Had his BU jersey over his shoulder and was trying to text or call someone. I asked if he needed a ride, but he just tried to high-five my car.
Hope he made it OK- he was a wreck. But a happy wreck.

Almost definitely. Did he have an '09 champions sweatshirt?

Glad to hear he's still alive (as far as we know).

Re: Boston University 2009-2010 Season Thread II: Still got a pulse, time for CPR

I think the end of BU's schedule looks favorable. I don't think Maine will be #2 with BU, BC and UNH on tap for 5 more games this season...so, they may be playing 4 teams in the bottom half of the table to finish the season.

Anyone get a picture of the Monster scoreboard with the final score? I haven't seen one in any of the pictorials (and it was blocked from view from my angle) but I thought it would be a cool one to have.

@#$%& not me. I reminded myself multiple times throughout the game to be sure to walk around to get it and then forgot. I especially wanted to see it because for the first period (or 2) of the women's game it was blank for UNH's score and "Boston" for Northeastern's. Wanted to see what they put for the men's game.

On ESPN.com right now, if you click on "BU Tops BC / Frozen Fenway" you get HD highlights of . . . the 7-3 win over UMass. Interesting!
