Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

Oh I *completely* agree. While we can easily agree to disagree on which team is "better," I think these two teams are the closest, talent wise, in the tournament field and this might be the best women's hockey game I personally will have ever watched. Definitely looking forward to the Raty/Schaus duel. I would be very surprised if either team gave up 4+ goals.

Seriously have you seen Minny play lately. BC had struggled against strong goalies as in LaCasse at PC, but PC does not have anywhere near the defense and offensive firepower that UM has. I can understand blind loyalty, help me understand how you see "I think these two teams are the closest, talent wise, in the tournament field" can you support that theory. Here is what I see, MInny was ranked 3rd a week ago and they handily defeated a beat up UDM and the lost in OT to UW, a team they are supposed to lose to. BC on the other hand was rank 7th and the narrowly defeated PC and the beat Northeastern 3-1, both teams they are supposed to beat. So, Minny seems to have demonstrated they are very competitive with number 1, while BC seems to have demonstrated they are pretty close to the 9-12 teams in the country. Can you help me better understand your perspective.

BTW after an hour in my shrinks office and a prescription for Valium I am starting to accept the bracket pairings, with the exception of this one anyway :-)

NCAA ANOUNCEMENT
Starting in the year 2012 The NCAA will officially expand the field of competitors in the Women's Division I Women's Ice Hockey Tournamanet to 12. This is a very exciting time in Women's hockey said tournament chair Chris Schneider. The field will consist of 7 of the 8 teams that compete in the WCHA. Because as we all know the WCHA is clearly the best league. St Cloud will be the lone school excluded in the interest of being fair. (maybe some eastcoast bias in this decision) The rest of the field will consist of the 3 remaining conference winners and 2 at large bids. (NOTE: If Penn State joins the CHA and Mercyhurst makes it through that demanding schedule they will also be an automatic bid.)
The seedings will break down at follows:
1. The WHCA final regular season standings will take the top 7 seeds. Because as we all know the WHCA is clearly best league
Tournament Rules:
The top 4 WCHA teams will receive a bye. The next 3 WCHS teams and the remaining highest seeded non WCHA will be hosts.

Teams will continue through the bracket until a winner has been determined.

ADDITIONAL TOURNAMENT NOTES:
1. Any game that ends in a tie at the end of regulation and includes a WCHA team and a non WCHA team will be deemed a win for the WCHA, Because as we all know the WCHA is clearly the best league.
2. And finally: Any Championship game that ends with a non WCHA team winning the game will deemed null and void with the Championship being awarded to the WCHA team because as we all know the WCHA is clearly the best league

We are excited going forward with the new format and hope that this will make Granddaddyscout happy!

That is great news, I would say it makes about as much sense as some of what we have seen this year. I would suggest that only the top 6 teams from the WCHA be included though since there are only 6 teams in the top 15.

BTW here is todays poll;

1 Wisconsin (15) 34-2-2 150
2 Cornell 30-2-1 134
3 Minnesota 26-9-2 111
4 Mercyhurst 29-5-0 94
5 Boston College 23-6-6 88
5 Boston University 25-6-4 88
7 Minnesota-Duluth 22-8-3 69
8 Dartmouth 22-11-0 39
9 North Dakota 20-13-3 32
10 Providence 22-12-1 17

You forgot to mention that if there is a tie between two WCHA teams, and the head coach of one of the WCHA teams is wearing '60's style clothing, then the win shall be granted to said team. (Because we all know that such attire is the hallmark of the best coaches!)

Does 10 for 10 mean nothing to you? Obviously there are good teams in other conferences, but I think its pretty obvious which one is consistently the deepest and can win championships...

I don't think UConnFan is necessarily disputing this. I think the point is that Granddaddyscout needed psychotherapy to help get past the fact that a "W" team might have to beat as many as 2 non-"W" teams to make that streak 11. See the other threads for claims of "grassy-knollism" to favor Eastern teams. I appreciate most of granddaddy's posts, but I think he had this one coming!

God... my head hurts from the blinding stupidity of this post. Please leave.

Upon further review, the penalty on Restuccia when Kehoe got hurt is still a terrible call.

BTW go away. None of us want you here. None of us want to read this drivel.

If your team is so much better as you claim they will win in our house on Saturday. Now leave us alone and troll somewhere else.

Doubtful, because his team will be playing in Madison on Saturday.

The photo evidence may prove you wrong:

http://hockeyphotography.photoshelter.com/image/I0000Ho2BLOYWf2E

Probably a game misconduct would have been more appropriate...look at the photo bro!!!

Chip:eek:

I watched the game on NESN replay last night, specifically the collision, and replayed it a number of times. You need to see the video to appreciate what actually happened. Puck is in Northeastern's end. Kehoe is drifting to the front of the net to cover until a BC player misses a shot high and wide and rings the puck around the boards to Kehoe's side. As soon as this happens, Kehoe pivots and races to the boards to intercept what is ostensibly a breakout pass. Restuccia sees the same, and is already on a path to the puck. When KK realizes she is, at best, going to get to the puck at the same time as Restuccia, (and from the looks of it, Restuccia is winning the foot race), KK begins to lunge / dive. It is at this point that the collision happens. Truth be told, KK hit Restuccia at about thigh/hip height, and actually took her out. It just happens that she bore the brunt of the impact because Restuccia had nowhere else to land.

Having seen it from close up the first time - (I am the spectator in the photo you attached) my first thought as the play developed was "uh-oh, her (KK's) head is down." which turned out to be a result of her dive. She looked like she got the brunt of the impact to her head, and was pushed backward. From where I was, even leaning up to the glass, I couldn't tell how twisted her leg was underneath her, which was ultimately the more severe injury. In my pretty experienced opinion, NU is lucky there was a penalty called at all, because it was clearly inadvertent, and could have been avoided or the impact reduced if KK had stayed on her feet instead of diving. The fact that there was an injury on the play is likely the reason Restuccia ended up in the box.

Sorry, I forgot how sensitive some of you folks in the east are. I think BC is a very good team, I just don't think they deserve to be ranked a head of Minny. I definitely don't think you can justify two teams from your conference being hosts. But, the NCAA committee doesn't agree with me, so you are lucky that they made that call not me or just about anyone else. I also wasn't aware that this was an exclusive environment that only permitted BC loyalists. Best of luck on Saturday, but I really think UM is going to give you a healthy dose of reality.

Watch the game film, you will definitely change your mind. Two bodies collided and my guess is that it was Kehoe's leg which buckled when she slid causing the injury bro!!!

The photo evidence is irrefutable! A player does not get horizontal that high in the air without intentionally going at it! Additionally, a player's fist doesn't end up in the opposing players head/throat area without being intended and a major penalty called! BTW, bro, I did watch the telecast on NESN and was completely appalled at the hit, as well as the officials lack of proper rule enforcement. The photo doesn't lie bro....

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey 2010-2011: Schaus In Da Haus

FYI, I assumed from image that it was knee, but primary injury was to the ankle. I think the penalty was a combination of injury & it being Restuccia (not in general - but there had been a few plays in the game where she likely would have been called by some refs who call games as though women are made of china). They didn't call one on collision where Kehoe took Motherwell which was easier - at least for me - to see was a clean play.

Are you implying that it was a retaliation hit and was ok? I saw no other plays in ANY of the women's playoffs that even remotely came close to that outrageously inappropriate head hunting spectacle!
