Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

no bluff calling here...

I would guess, and only guess that no one would walk unless another option was in place or a strong chance to seal.

Who exactly has decommited here?

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Benn was not a 4/4- he got the same 2/4 that cody was offered. What was disappointing to the ferriero's about that situation is that Benn should have been given money after his freshman year and he was not.

Having said that, Cody has a bit of an ego, and getting drafted higher than expected stroked that ego a bit. The fact that hes "considering going pro" shows you just how much he thinks of himself. He was not happy being the third wheel to the Hayes-Arnold show.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Just curious - is it common practice to offer a recruit, who has been selected in the NHL Draft, a 2-year scholarship rather than a full, 4-year deal? Is this unique to BC or do other Hockey East schools do the same thing?

Ferriero was offered a couple years ago, well before drafted(2 years+) and accepted his 2/4, I had heard 1/4.

2/4 is good, very few get a 4/4, very few.

In regards to the draft picks, out of the last 40+ Hockey East kids who were drafted, most had their deals in place well before the draft selection. They dont hang around that long.

Have no idea what you're talking about here...

no way Arnold is on that line.

Arnold is a great player and kid but not with Kreider and Hayes, not yet. Maybe in Feb/March

Obviously nothing it set in stone. I was just going off of line combinations from last year and what might be a good fit.

Cody Ferriero.

Look North........

If you're talking about him going to a school up north, my initial guess was UNH.

Hokydad will almost certainly refute this...

One thing appears clear here...you have to think Cody does indeed have an ego/sense of entitlement here.

Which is why Umile would probably steer clear of him. Umile's a pretty straight honor code guy.

As circumstances change (e.g., subsequently being drafted; other recruits receiving more lucrative deals; etc.), does the recruit have any room to renegotiate the original offer? How receptive is the coaching staff to renegotiation? Is this part of what went on in the Ferriero case?

Every elite athlete has an ego/sense of entitlement, Cody is no exception. His might be a little larger than some. Heck of a player who would have brought an edge to BC that they could use and will score goals, has a great shot

Benn had a 4/4

Everything is negotiable. Coaching staffs like to stick to original deal and maybe revisit after a year of play. It happened recently with PC and Bryce Oconner. He went to coaches and said he needed more money. they said no and gave permission to look elsewhere. He did and got more from Maine and left. That is a rare occurance.

Most sign up and stick with it no matter what.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think Ferriero decommitting counts as making BC sad and BU happy. New rumors about Hayes--we'll see.

What is there to be confused about? Hokydad said himself he was surprised by the Ferriero news. That indicated to me that his other "tid bit of info" was not about Ferriero. That led me (and Joe) to believe it was probably about Hayes, which is something I first heard about a couple days ago.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Poster from EagleAction:

"Chicago did talk to Hayes about leaving early after his rookie camp last month but the decision was made to stay at BC."

I was back and forth over whether his reaction was geniune surprise or whether it was sarcasm hinting that it was the news he was dropping hints about. The post on Ferriero right near the time of the news breaking didn't make it any easier to figure out. However, I came to the conclusion that people lacking any social skills whatsoever aren't capable of exhibiting or understanding sarcasm and therefore he was genuinely surprised.

That being said... Let's not give him too much attention here unless it's to make fun of him...

You had to edit that? After reading it 14 or 15 times, smiling the whole time, you picked out a typo?

I know exactly whats going on now but wont share, outside 2 guys on here who I chat with by e-mail. You not being one.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

hokydad knows all

we can only hope to be lucky enough to have him include us on his invaluable emails

or

i think hokydad is actually the guy from USHR

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Cody Ferriero does not deserve a 4/4 and I do not think he will get one, maybe if he plays in the USHL. Based off what he has done at Govenors hes a 2/4...

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Arnold/Hayes have resumes that justify 4/4's over cody. Both had much better numbers in prep school and both are a year younger.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Not a big deal. Clearly Ferriero knew he wouldn't get much time at BC considering our lineup for next year.

That is not the case.... If you said he wanted to go where he thought he would have a better shot at top 3 lines, maybe. BC has little if any depth next year. Loaded but cross your fingers

Ferriero is also a very late December 91, a matter of a few months older than either of the 2.
