Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Sorry, Cody, this is Boston College, not Governor Dummer. Have a nice life.

I would hardly consider Cody Ferriero a representation of all Prep Hockey. His attitude is a disgrace to the Governor's Academy and Prep Hockey in general. It's too bad that despite his clear lack of respect for anything other than himself, he will still reap the benefits of a New England Prep education later in life.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Give me a break. They didn't need someone with an attitude like that coming this year. You have a team with players on it that turned down good money to come back and try to repeat. Don't need some prima donna messing with that chemistry. I hope he enjoys playing at NU and most likely never sniffing a NCAA tourney game over the next 2 years. (since he's good enough to leave after that)

agreed

with the disappointing way that benn went out and now this idiocy, i'm glad that family is someone else's problem. the apple didnt fall far from the tree (other apples??).

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I wonder if Ferreiro the younger will languish on the brink of greatness year after year like his brother.

Have they named captains?

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

A decision that quickly? Interesting. While the Ferriero's are a hit with USHR...how much you wanna bet we don't get a single quote from York on this? At least that's how it usually is. Really unfortunate how all of this went down and how Cody went about things, but BC was bigger than Ryan Hayes, Chris McCarthy, Kenny Ryan, and will certainly be bigger than Cody Ferriero.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

One ironic aspect to this whole Ferriero saga, is he probably would have gotten money to cover his sophomore year. A lot of people suspect BC will have some kids leave early after this upcoming season (Jimmy Hayes, Cam Atkinson, Brian Dumoulin, etc). If Cody had worked hard and kept his mouth shut, he probably would have received some money, thus making his scholarship at BC a 3 for 4.

Nah, not really. Remember, Mr. 5th rounder is going pro in 2 years. LOL!

So it would have been a 1 for 2. I guess still not acceptable for him. Oh well. His loss.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Benn is and was a great kid. I dont know what "languish on the brink of greatness year after year" means but the 4 years he was there, was probably 4 of the most successfull years ever in BC hockey, Hockey East Titles, Beanpot championships, national championships and I think playing in frozen 4 every year.

Now he is playing pro and played over 20 games in NHL and San Jose loves him.

What does greatness mean, cheering for teh football team split season??

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I actually have to agree with hokydad, what has ever come out negative about Benn? Did I miss something?

I would just like to point out for everyone else's enjoyment that my phone autocorrected "Benn" to "Bennett."

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Don't think so. Can't remember any on ice or off ice issues.

if you guy's can't recall anything i certainly can't either , all good. the only thing i would comment on is that IMO there was always something inside me that expected more , i dunno , for use of a better term, superstardom?? maybe because he is one of those athletes that makes things look effortless, not sure if that makes sense but anyway, suffice to say he was an excellent representitve of the hockey program and the school itself and we are all thrilled he is doing well:D

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I'm in the liked Benn and think he had a good head on his shoulders crowd.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Benn had the potential to be one of the all-time greats at BC. Yet year after year he was above average and never truly broke out.

Did I miss something? Did Cody de-commit or something?

because Benn was taught how to play the pro game from an early age. That is why San Jose coach fell in love with him the minute he met him and why he is playing in the NHL and BRock Bradford was told to not come to camp. The same reason Jack Skille cant dress for Blackhawks.
Benn was and always was a better pro prospect than a college player. A super D 1 player and invaluable asset for York etc but played the game to honest for the fans to appreciate.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I believe Benn was a 7th round pick and Phoenix chose not to sign him after his senior season. To say he was always a better pro prospect simply isn't accurate.

As for Bradford, he's skilled, but doesn't possess the speed/grit to go with it. At the very least, he probably needed another one of those two elements.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

sure looks that way to me....

he was always a pro type player or probably would have been better to say, he played more of a pro style game.
Was also a very good college player, huge part of BC's program all 4 years and had a very good carear. Has already played more NHL games than Gerbe has and it took Brian Boyle 3 years after leaving BC to play as many games as he did.
Benn stept in and played a pro style/accountable game from day one that the coaches could and do trust.

There's no question he has left a mark on the San Jose coaches, etc. thus far, but for the people who watched him for four years...

I'd say most if not all we're surprised at his rookie pro season last year.

and that is why they sit in the stands and write on message boards.....

none of the pro guys have been shocked. Had 140 points in his carear, won a national championship, Beanpots, Hockey east championships, frozen 4 four straight years, played in title game 3 times, the most success any team had ever had in a 4 year stretch

Jerry York is not even remotely surprsied. Thats why he doesnt sit in the stands

He had 50 points in 58 games in the AHL, AFTER his injury was healed, whcih he played thru at BC his sr year without every complaining once. That you also wouldn't see sitting in the stands.

What does "thus far" mean? Your highly valued hockey eye sees something that they don't?

I am actually relieved they washed their hands of Cody. Did anyone on this board watch him play in high school? I had the opportunity to see him a couple times and although talented, each game he took at least 1 or 2 dumb penalties due to frustration. That's always a bad sign. Proves he's a me first team second kind of player.
