Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

BC has little if any depth next year.

Are you serious? You must mean 2011-12 right?

The 4th line for BC this coming season would be a top line for a whole bunch of teams.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Hokydad, York doesn't carry a huge roster to begin with. They're fine in net and have 7 dmen for next year. He usually carries eight, so I'd expect a walk on to join. Your boy Lyles would have been nice as an extra, but oh well. They'll be fine.

He carried 14 forwards last year. The 14th forward was a freshman and didn't dress in a single game. 13th forward was Tommy Atkinson--played ok in limited duty. Both are back this year. No early defections at forward.

Differences:

Out: Smith, Price, Lombardi
In: K. Hayes, Arnold, Brown

When you look at the impact players coming back and also look at what Mullane, Kreider, and S. Whitney were able to do as freshmen last year--the depth is actually around the same. Can the incoming freshmen forwards produce like that other trio right away? That trio scored 30 goals. I would take the under, but still think they'll put up 20+ between them.

I'm really hoping Tommy Atkinson gets a chance to play more this year. Judging from history, he will, as injuries always come up. He'd probably be playing regularly at most other schools but to his credit has been good in his role for BC the last two years.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

When I said depth I meant guys in stands not the starters

The 13th and 14th forwards this upcoming year are the exact same two as last year. They only carried 14 forwards.

Tommy Atkinson actually looked solid in his role when he was on the ice last year and pleasantly surprised me. If BC wasn't so **** loaded he'd be playing a nice 4th line role and probably would do it pretty well.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Hokydad, nobody here has a problem with Lyles. We just have one with you.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

i think hokydad is actually the guy from USHR

this is my suspicion too. probably trying to drive up membership and see who is poaching their articles for the rest of us

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

sorry steve, wrong guy. CW is not that bad at grammar...

On that note, did anyopne else see the USHR.com interview today with Ferriero?

It lays out why he left

If I were a BC fan, my reaction would simply be "Good riddance." Should be interesting to see where he ends up. I'm not sure BU, Maine, UNH or UVM could make any more of a money or playing time guarantee this late in the game.

Yea, kinda sounds like a dope... he seems so thrilled to have the acceptance of his brother in all this. Does he have a mind of his own? Wonder what Benn is telling him about his "experience."

It's going to be hilarious when he comes to Conte if he sticks in Hockey East (where's Petrecki when you need him?).

Cody will do the same. He will join the defending champion Eagles this spring in hopes of serving as a member of a national championship team, which his brother was able to do in 2008.

"Regardless of where I got drafted, I was going to B.C.," Cody said. "Obviously, my brother going there was a big influence and he had a great time there. The experience was very successful in helping him move up to the next level. B.C. is arguably the best team in college hockey over the last five years or so."

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Would have been nice for USHR to spell his last name correctly.

Anyway, the quote in the title alone is enough to **** me off. No, Cody, it has nothing to do with you not being wanted. How does he know that more money wasn't considered for him, but in the end they decided it wasn't in their best interest? That doesn't mean it wasn't considered.

"The coaches just kept telling me there was no money available."--he makes it sound like the coaches lied to him. They never promised him anything other than what was first agreed upon.

At least he tried scheduling a meeting with "Jerry" and met with him on July 19th.

He wanted a more straight forward answer than being told that 12-13 guys will be competing at forward??? What does he think this is? Who does he think he is? Nothing sounds worse than an incoming college recruit who does not like the idea of competition. How did not being guaranteed anything work out for Matt Lombardi? Numerous other examples as well.

"Telling me about possibly getting more money and it not coming through added to the feeling that I wasn't wanted"

He seems to have mistaken the word possibly to mean absolutely...possibly is what it is, Cody.

"I'm getting a lot of support from everyone I talk to and obviously with Benn supporting me and telling me I should go somewhere else - with his experience obviously that's been a big part of what made me change my mind."

I don't think Benn had anything to do with Cody changing his mind. IMO, Cody's mind was made up and Benn was just reassuring him (like a good older brother).

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Clearly Cody Ferriero looks into the mirror and sees Sidney Crosby. The kid was probably a third line forward at BC at best and he suddenly is making demands of Jerry and is upset he has to compete for a spot? Sorry, Cody, this is Boston College, not Governor Dummer. Have a nice life.

I'm actually irked he called him "Jerry" a few times, but maybe that's just me. I figure Coach York is way more appropriate.

Yeah, the only people I've heard refer to any HE coaches by first name are other HE coaches. Every player, reporter or HE representative I've been around calls them Coach X or simply Coach.

Jesus, this kid really looks like a total buffoon.

Like I said, I hope Samuelsson and Wey and the rest of the defense strike hard, strike first, and show no mercy on him if he gets on the ice in an opposing uniform.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Ferriero to Northeastern this fall, saying that 5 other Hockey East and one Ivy team were interested. Kid moved quickly.

Too bad. I thought with his ethics and values, he would clearly be heading to Ithaca...

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I didn't see the article on USHR, but the sense of entitlement really shows from the parts you guys are quoting. Did he just expect the program to hand him a starting roster spot and 4 free years of school without stepping on the ice? And using USHR as his personal soapbox in order to somehow attempt and make the coaching staff look like the bad guys?

Give me a break. They didn't need someone with an attitude like that coming this year. You have a team with players on it that turned down good money to come back and try to repeat. Don't need some prima donna messing with that chemistry. I hope he enjoys playing at NU and most likely never sniffing a NCAA tourney game over the next 2 years. (since he's good enough to leave after that)

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

(since he's good enough to leave after that)

so he thinks apparently:confused: ...........he should enter the rink where the zamboni does because that's the only opening large enough to fit his head through:rolleyes:

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Should be an interesting season opener. Enjoy mediocrity.
