Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

As funny as that sounds it may be a situation where they plan on expanding Donor Based Seating and they need room in the lower bowl to move those displaced from their blue line seats.

And if they can make some extra money off of it, I guess it's a win/win.

If they expand DBS to hockey, I'm done as a season-ticket holder (over 20 years). That's why there are so many empty seats for football and basketball games. GDF should keep his money-grubbing hands off the hockey program! Keep the games affordable for the average fan!!

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

BUs are getting up there as well. I think the avg is a little over 27, and my quickly eroding algebra skills broke out the premium games to be 31. The thought of paying for two exhibitions slightly grates as well. But at BU hockey is as we have to bring in money... Sadly

I haven't heard anything about DBS being instituted. Let's hope not, particularly since I'm going to be dealing with it too after next year! :D

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Word on the street is that the idea was brought up by a few students, not the administration. What I'm more impressed with is that they're actually listening to what the students have to say.
This.

I have to say, for all we rip on athletics, I can't say enough about how well those involved with the hockey program treated us students who reached out to them last year - from the head of the ticket office to the associate AD that is at all the hockey games to everyone in the coaching staff.

It's funny, because a lot of the students seem to be taking the seat move as BC trying to get more money for its seats. They don't realize it was some of their fellow students that suggested this. I don't mind moving but I don't mind staying either (I like the view we get from behind the glass and being right behind the goalies but at the same time I do think sitting in the balcony would give us a louder and more cohesive student section) so I don't even think I'm going to vote. I have a feeling it's not going to get passed cause too many students seem to be outraged by it (there's even a Facebook group about keeping the student section in the lower bowl).

I do, however, think that because BC can make more money from the move, it'll take about 75% of people saying no for it to not happen.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

any other students get the email about potentially moving the student sections from behind the goals to the upper deck? what do you guys all think? Im in favor of it since we would be louder if we were united and not separated by the thick glass, but the view from right behind the net in the first few rows is pretty amazing.

the view from the first rows of the balcony is much better

Without a doubt. The only thing that upsets me is that they waited for the year I graduated to do this. But it will make the experience better for everyone in the buidling going forward (including families and older folks in the corners, whose views won't be blocked by standing students and whose gentle sensibilities won't be offended by salty language).

Getting a good view of the net is now one positive from being in my section. Of course, I lose the ability to see all the coed cuties a section away and even in my section when they would attempt to spill over into my section.

Personally, I'd rather not see the net... :D

Time for GDF to go if DBS is instituted in hockey. They have enough problems filling seats in the average game with the exception of the BU, unh, Maine games.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Food for thought: Will BC score 100 goals in Hockey East next year? They fell just short with 99 last year.

I just did some research on how many teams have broken 100 goals in a HE season. In the last 10 years, only 3 have (2000-01 BC, 01-02 UNH and 08-09 BU). Additionally, 10 teams have broken 90 (01-02 Maine, 02-03 BC, 04-05 UNH, 05-06 Maine, 06-07 UNH, 07-08 BU, 09-10 BC, 09-10 UNH, 09-10 Maine and 09-10 BU).

Interesting that from 2000-09, 01-02 was the only season to have 2 teams break 90. Then all of a sudden 4 teams do it last year. Worth noting that from 2000-05, there were only 24 conference games.

Anyway, to answer your question, I say yes. BC brings back almost everyone, there aren't any truly great goalies in this league and there aren't many really strong defensive teams either.

I agree that other than Muse/Milner, Madore at Vermont and Beaudry at Providence (which gets negated because it's Providence), the rest of the goalies in HE are marginal. Unless someone steps up at the other schools, I think you could see 4 teams put up 90 again and 2 put up 100.

Milan is a good goalie who had a bad year last year (a la Muse in 2009 albeit Muse's was injured). I think BC should score 100 goals in HE easily next year. They put up big numbers late in the season in HE and in the NCAAs. I can't wait for next season, it's going to be a great one again.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Great BC representation on 2011 USA WJC Evaluation Roster...3 defensemen, 2 forwards, and an incoming freshman.

Real tribute to staff and program.

CONGRATULATIONS and BEST TO ALL.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

That is nice to see but it is absurd to use the word "designated driver", with the ones doing the drinking doing so illegally and under age, and in direct violation to the schools and hockey teams rules and codes.

This quote says it all. "detectives found the vehicle strewn with beer cans and a bottle of vodka"

She did not make an illegal turn and was not drunk. Very happy to hear that. Thank God she and no one else got hurt. It is though sad to think a nice girl was on more than one occasion being used to drive drunk under age kids around.

Not one of the hockey players in this instance is a victim.

I don't think anyone is surprised that the T driver was partly to blame and that he has a checkered driving record. Almost would have expected it. Always shocked there are not more accidents on Comm ave

Good lesson for all involved to not put yourself in a situation to fail, which this clearly was.

If they had been pulled over for a busted tail light, the charges vs the players would be exactly the same in regards to the hockey players, of course within the school and hockey team as well. None of them were charged with a single driving violation.
