Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

A big congrats goes out to Paul Vincent, the skating and full time skills coach with the Chicago Blackhawks. It was nice to see him raising the cup last night.

Paul started his coaching career with BC about 30 years ago, won a natl championship at RPI and almost won a cup with Tampa. An amazing coach and person who shows how prehistoric the NHL still thinks.

Can you imagine how few teams have a skills guy? It would be like Tiger Woods not having a swing coach.

He works with Jimmy and Kevin Hayes, Billy Arnold , Chris Kreider and a lot of the Hockey East kids all summer long.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Hoky, I always wondered where Kreider learned to skate like this. Is this the guy you would say it most responsible for his off-the-charts skating ability? Or is it someone else that you would say is more responsible for it (or is it just a natural talent that Kreider has?)?

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Paul Vincent has been the God of power skating for the last 35 years. His camps not only helped kids with skating, but he wasn't afraid to demand hard work out of kids during off ice training as well. (probably wouldn't fly with parents these days) As a kid, the camps were grueling and tough, but the kids who persevered, went on to do big things in college and the pros. Since joining the pro ranks, his exposure has waned, but during the 80's he was THE man of power skating.

Great to see him still having success. He has gone through some tough times throughout his life, but the one constant has been his ability to motivate and teach kids to be better skaters and hockey players. He has proven himself at every level.

Chris has a God given talent coupled with a tremendous work ethic.... Paul over the past 3 summers, again this year, will simply try and make him better.

It is amazing that so many NHL teams keep their skills guys down on the farm vs the big club. When Paul was with Boston a few years ago their prospects improved big time. Of course the B';s didn't want to pay him and look what happened in Chicago.

When they interviewed Brent Sopel, a guy who a few years ago had a walk on invite tryout with Detroit, playing 6 or 7 minutes a game, and now plays 20+, he said I can tell you two words that has made the change, "Paul Vincent". That was on TSN last night. Chicago paid him 4 times what the Bruins did and Joel Quinville insisted that he travel with the team and spend his time with the big club. Spent months with Hossa helping him rehab. the same Joel Quinville who didnt believe in a skating/skills coach for the first 20 years he coached.

After 30+ years, it will be fun to see him bring the cup to Boston for a party.

FYI - From USHR: Another Top '95 Headed to The Heights

Noble & Greenough 6'1'", 185 lb. left shot forward Brandon Shea has committed to Boston College for the fall of '13. A Marshfield, Mass. native, Shea is the son of former Boston College ('86) forward and current Colorado Avalanche scout Neil Shea.

Would that be the Pierre Club Award winner, Neil Shea?:D

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

My Official Frozen Four DVD came in the mail today, and I'm thrilled. My Dad will be thrilled before me, because I'm giving it to him as a Father's Day gift. But I'll politely ask to make a copy so I can revel in that collective 12-1  weekend thrashing of Miami and Wisconsin that I still can't believe happened.

Hence the need for the 'official DVD' so that I can prove it to myself :D

enjoy.:D ..........i think i have watched TTT20's posts on eagleaction of all the goals in both games, well, i'm embarrassed to say how many times i've watched it.;) I think we can safely say that we will never see any team do a 12-1 or similar "thrashing" EVER.

Precisely, since so many of the FF games over recent memory have been one-goal (and even OT) affairs. That makes an aggregate 12-1 score almost implausible, akin to catching lightning in a bottle.

I was at a BC-Lowell game in mid-January where The Riverhawks thoroughly bottled BC up and won something like 3-1. My brother-in-law lives next door to the Lowell coach, so I went over there a couple weeks ago to applaud he and his team for their 'recipe' versus BC.

yeah, i was at that lowell game too and they were the toughest for us. i keep replaying the kreider goal against Wisconsin, if you blink you miss how he absolutely blew by the d-man to steer hayes' pass in front. it seemed like he was 5 ft behind him and in a flash he was 5 ft in front of him.......

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Sorry steveF, as always you are correct. I thought it said that Tiger HAS a swing coach.

It would be like Tiger Woods not having a swing coach.

Oh wait, maybe I am correct. He doesn't have a swing coach, because he fired him. If it were past tense shouldn't it have said 'woods not having had a swing coach'? Grammar ain't my strong point so I will defer to the expert......

Listen SteveF, I'm not trying to be a jerk here. If you want to go around watching everyone of my posts trying t find some mistake so you can come on here and post "Gotcha" that's your business. I feel sorry for you if that actually brings you some iota of happiness, but if it does then I guess I am happy to help.

I'll have to watch for that on the new DVD that I got for my Dad :D . Yes, that's it. I got it for my Dad :D .

One of the features on the DVD (that I got for my Dad :D ) is that every goal is shown from two angles.
