Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

That is nice to see but it is absurd to use the word "designated driver", with the ones doing the drinking doing so illegally and under age, and in direct violation to the schools and hockey teams rules and codes.

This quote says it all. "detectives found the vehicle strewn with beer cans and a bottle of vodka"

She did not make an illegal turn and was not drunk. Very happy to hear that. Thank God she and no one else got hurt. It is though sad to think a nice girl was on more than one occasion being used to drive drunk under age kids around.

Not one of the hockey players in this instance is a victim.

I don't think anyone is surprised that the T driver was partly to blame and that he has a checkered driving record. Almost would have expected it. Always shocked there are not more accidents on Comm ave

Good lesson for all involved to not put yourself in a situation to fail, which this clearly was.

If they had been pulled over for a busted tail light, the charges vs the players would be exactly the same in regards to the hockey players, of course within the school and hockey team as well. None of them were charged with a single driving violation.

I know the site of the accident very well (as do many here) and if the train was going 35 miles per hour in the spot, that's startling. I'm not going to say the hockey kids are angels, but let's not pretend they kidnapped the Lindbergh Baby here either. College kids drink, pure and simple. The fact that they didn't drive drunk (even on the short drive from Applebees to campus) is a good thing because Im not sure how many other people would have done that.

I agree Slasher but it is tough to give praise to someone for not driving drunk. That might be a stretch. From all accounts very good kids with a mentor/coach who will make sure they all learn by it and become better long term people for it. No need to minimize it in any shape fashion or form.

Any incident like this you can walk away from is usually an event that 'wakes you up'. I'd be surprised if any of these guys end up in this situation again.

Me too. You were correct about one thing, it goes on every day on every campus. Lets hope it helps a kid or two to not end up in the same spot.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Raise your hand if you're surprised by this...

not...............i posted on eagleaction that this article suggests that this event is the reason the team hasn't gone to the White House. others have said that perhaps the prez is waiting for the college world series to get over so all winter/spring champs go together. haven't a clue myself but sure hope the team didnt get the shaft because of the speeding trolley driver. Imagine him going 35 in a 10 mph zone? oh, i guess i can it is the MBTA we are talking about:rolleyes:

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Glad to see confirmation that the young lady wasn't drunk or on drugs, and that they confirmed it via a toxicology screen as to dispell any doubts.

Even better this making news puts some pressure on the MBTA to reform their ways.

On the other point brought up, I doubt the Hockey Team has gotten snubbed from the White House because of this incident. With two wars, a sunk economy, oil spill, a general who thinks he is a moron, runaway deficits, out of control spending, falling approval ratings, and a general sense of being in wayyyy over his head, I think it's perfectly plausible that Obama has other things on his mind. Like Basketball.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

she was sober.. ergo, jcarter wrong again. amazing!

and the T was speeding, that should send some hillbillies back to the drawing board for new jokes.

Actually reread the thread, I never said she wasn't. I just said that the possibility existed and that I would reserve judgement until the testing came back. It has and I now acknowledge that she wasn't under the influence.

Without the test results there was no way to know. But yes SteveF, if you wish to believe that I said she was high then in your book I am wrong.

i bet he WAS watching the draft last night:eek: i doubt it as well, but like i said, the boston.com (Globe) article certainly suggests it

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

And, of course, this won't get nearly the attention as the original story. While I certainly don't support BC, it sucks to have the program's name muddied when, in fact, this incident was misreported.

Actually the term "designated driver" isn't absurd here. It's spot on - she is the person designated by the group to refrain from drinking and to drive the others who decided to drink (it has nothing to do with underage drinking - in fact, it's commendable that kids who are underage and do decide to drink actually thought of having a designated driver). I have a few friends who choose not to drink (for various reasons) and they never seem to mind driving those of us who do imbibe. They enjoy hanging out with the group regardless and see the driving as a good way for everyone to have a good time and stay safe.

BU never got to go to the White House last summer. Obama postponed the original meeting and then it was never rescheduled. I have no idea if BC will or won't go or what the reasoning is as to why they haven't gone already, but I just wanted to point out that they wouldn't be the first national champion that didn't get to go.

I'm glad you posted this because I've been wondering all day and was thinking about posting the question on your thread.

Thanks.

I'm curious to read the Herald tomorrow, primarily because they got scooped by the Globe and that gives them a chance to fill in some missing pieces from the story and attempt to get quotes from some folks about this (particularly that dbag chief of police and the GM of the MBTA, although I am assuming their guilty behinds will be hiding behind a secretary that can't locate them or a "no comment".).

ditto Nick's thank you for the info ............two wrongs don't make a right. funny he found time for the hoop champs this year though and he has plenty more on his plate now then a year ago in my opinion

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Story is on the front page of necn.com

well props to the mbta general manager for actually coming out and addressing this story, even though from the clips he really didn't say much besides 'oh, but i was lied to so of course i didnt know!' i always like to see some vindication for students wrongly accused for acting up and causing problems simply for being college students. seems like there was bad decisions all around here and fortunately no one got hurt badly.

Disagree.

I, for one, am proud of the players for having a designated driver. Let's get off the high horse and deal with the fact that college kids drink, and like it or not, they were drinking responsibly by having a designated driver.

I'm wondering if you've ever been to college.
it is tough to give praise to someone for not driving drunk.
Really?

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

No comment, on a positive note. I told his dad 3 weeks ago Chicago was going to take him.

Is it possible to not comment and then...comment? This is classic hokydad. Try not to toot your own horn so hard.
