Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Instead of making stuff up about an 18 year old, why not discuss how the 2013 national championship will be celebrated on campus? I'm assuming with the grass put in that it has to move from the location of the last two. Do you think it will return to Conte? If not, how should it be celebrated.

Since Conte is supposed to get air conditioning next summer, that work presumably would start fairly quickly after the last home game if it could be done without messing up the ice for practice.

I'm not familiar enough with the campus to know a better spot for a celebration. I did like the last two except for the lack of people along their route which kinda ****ed me off especially in comparison to 2009.

More info ...

Does this make any sense though? I mean you bring the kid in, set him up in the dorms, get him in class, get him going to classes for a few weeks, get him set up in the locker room and at captain's practices, and then figure there is an issue with an admissions test?

Is this like another BJ Raji where BC administration screwed the pooch (albeit in a different way)?

I rather read about what happened to a recruit that suddenly left the team. Thanks for your suggestion, though.

USHR finally weighs in:

"Incoming Boston College freshman LW Frankie Vatrano has left the Heights after learning that he had failed to get through the NCAA Clearinghouse."

This clearly sucks for him but he's making the right move not going to Moncton and keeping his eligibility intact. USHR goes on to say he is planning on going to the NCAA route and may return to BC if they will have him back (assuming he wants to go back).

No, they're wrong too. York just hated Vatrano.

I don't get how this happens. Wouldn't they know before entering the school year that a player can not get through the Clearing House? Better yet, wouldn't he or someone in his camp: Advisor or the USNTDP staff, have this sorted out. Its very straight forward and determining your eligibility is easy. What was happening in Ann Arbor and his high school grades? I thought they would be all over these players and their grades. Really to bad this had to happen.

Sometimes there is no explanation. Sometimes somebody (don't know who in this case) just f's up.

After seeing BJ Raji get absolutely screwed by BC the night before the season opener a few years ago, would it shock anyone that the folks there screwed up again and found this in a preseason audit of some sort without finding it previously? Pure speculation of course, but again worth noting.

Been down this road in another NCAA sport. Sometimes you are blindsided late in the process. It can be an issue neither the family or the school would foresee. Until you know the particulars, you can't finger-point with certainty.

Exactly. This could have nothing to do with grades but something to do with minimum requirements of courses, etc. Sometimes one may take a course that is understood to meet a requirement and then the Clearinghouse throws you a curveball. Possible that some transcripts got lost in the shuffle as well.

I wish him well and perhaps we may see him suited up at BC sometime in the future.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

I am not very familiar with the "Clearinghouse" - in this case, would it likely be something specific to BC's admission standards that he was not able to meet? In other words, is he eligible to apply to another NCAA program for a January admission? Or does failing the clearinghouse mean he can't play at any school this year?

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Maybe there is something I don't understand about NCAA Clearinghouse, but how does Vinny Saponari, who is NCAA eligible, get denied by BC admissions, but a guy like Frank Vatrano gets admitted to BC but is not NCAA eligible??

Doesn't make sense.

If it's a clearinghouse issue, it's not the school. He will be ineligible to play at any NCAA D-1 or D-2 institution until he meets clearinghouse eligibility.

Vatrano obviously had the grades to be admitted but has not cleared clearinghouse. There's a boat load of reasons that a student athlete may not have cleared the clearinghouse. Most common is the transcripts got to them too late and it can take months for them to look at yours.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

was reported by Mcmahon from 2 sources that it was something to do with his ACT's.

He also reported that the kid was leaving school because he wanted to sign with Moncton.

very true melissa, wasn't talking smack about the kid just trying to get some reasons as to why he won't be at BC. I think we're all disappointed a player of his caliber won't be joining the team and it being so close to the season for a reason no one can tell us, has lead to us all wanting to know why. Haven't seen people really being malicious, just reporting what they've heard, me included.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

So do schools require the ACT now? Or is it just an alternative to SATs?
