Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Kenny, not everyone said it had to do with a lack of talent. In fact, the people who did offer insight on it only mentioned concerns about his play as ONE aspect of this. How could someone be academically ineligble already? To me, this sounds like a jeremy roenick situation or even kenny ryan as I said earlier.

It was an academic related issue. He's going to play in the EJHL.

Was he through the clearing house when he got to school? It sounds to me like maybe he didn't get through. I'm assuming he went to a few different high schools so maybe there was some kind of mix up? This whole thing is pretty sad. I can't see where he is much of a pro prospect and is missing out on a free education from a decent school. Hopefully things work out for him.

Man, for as much pride as there is all over canada for "their" hockey and their guys...they sure do love plucking american kids. Since this is only breaking now, I have to wonder what could have caused a move at this point. The last scenario I can remember like this was with kenny ryan. I think he only played in one exhibition game.

CHL teams are for-profit businesses when you get down to it, and their owners (and their fans) want to win. US players, imports of course in the CHL, are often undrafted free-agents or guys that CHL teams gambled on with a late round pick. So by "encouraging" an American player to leave the NCAA you might get the equivalent of a 1st or 2nd rounder (picks you used for Canadian midget players) with a throwaway pick because "everyone assumed the kid was going to the NCAA". Not a bad sports business move at all, although you can probably come up with very good arguments how that might negatively affect the player's post hockey life opportunities (always remembering that college isn't for everyone).

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

It was not his decision to leave.

Based off what I'm hearing this is above/different than York

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Would he have been your Chris Bourque? Skool not fur him?

Too early for that. 1st term grades wouldn't be in yet.

Hard to believe that he would be granted admission to BC without being NCAA academically eligible? (if that is what it is, we are just drawing straws at this point)

I guess whether he goes to the Q or to the EJHL would say a lot about his academic situation.

If that's the case, it makes sense to me since the coach isn't gonna be the one going through the academic paperwork, etc. Perhaps an oversight by admissions on something or maybe even new info brought to the table. Better to catch it now than after he played in games.

Vatrano got the KJ Tiefenwerth treatment. King Jerry loves em at age 15. Few years later, off with their head.

Another country heard from. Redhead, you can battle Kenny on that one.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Vatrano back with Jr. Bruins in EJ per Mike McMahon

BC is a very good school but okay.

Why not play tier 1? Better competition, more scouting in a league he did pretty well in. If his time at BC is officially over there is little doubt that he would get a lot of attention from other top D1 schools.

More info ...
Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonET
According to several well-placed sources, Vatrano left BC over an "academic issue" which stemmed from an admissions test
