Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

it was certainly weird since dyroff wasnt even cracking the lineup at forward. usually the guys you move back to play defense are guys you trust the most (dolinar, boyle, whitney)

but i think the writing was on the wall that begert was only invited to campus to make straight feel more comfortable. even possibly to guarantee his arrival.

Does Coach need to clip Destry's mittens to the sleeves of his winter jacket so he won't lose them?

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Speaking of Straight, I think he makes big strides next year, maybe something like a 14-21-35 scoring line. In addition, I think Hayes is going to score a lot more goals next year. This should really help solidify the top two scoring lines.

unless straight skates becomes a much better skater it's not going to happen, also know way he and Hayes are on top 2 lines. they'll skate together on 3rd line.

First of all, there was no true 1st, 2nd or 3rd lines this year, so Hayes and Straight have already been playing on those higher lines. Hayes is a 1st Rd draft pick and while he's taken time to adjust, he went from 14 pts as a freshman to 28 pts as a sophmore, and I see no reason why he wont be in the 35-40 pt range next year taking on a more important role. Straight was a completely different player at the end of the year and was making plays all over the place. He is going to be a very, very good player for BC. The top 6 returning forwards in no necessary order are Arnold, Gaudreau, Mullane, Hayes, Straight and Whitney. So unless you think Richardson and Vatrano are going to come in day one and push two of those 6 out of the top two lines, then your math doesn't add up. Like Straight this year, Richardson is coming a year early and I don't expect him to make the kind of immediate impact that will put him on one of the top two lines; and while Vatrano had a good year for the NTDP, he was something like 5th in PPG scoring and is more of an all around player at this point than a bigtime scorer. Both will be very good players, but I just don't see either of them surpassing those other top 6 early on.

Wasn't the BC hockey team already honored at Fenway? At the game and they're all on the field. Kinda late for this, isn't it? Arent most kids gone for the year?

"invited to campus to make Straight feel more comfortable" Please say you are kidding , aren't you ?
Not saying this is the case here, as I have no idea. But it happens... happened back in the '70's. Kid from our HS got a full to an ACC school in basketball. They took another kid (with scholly) along with him that never played bb in his life. He was the team manager.

BTW York had an amazing line on NESN last night, "We want our players to leave here with a diploma in one hand and a ring in the other".
Kenny is probably on the phone with the hockey office right now reprimanding Jerry.
Just say 'Thank You' Jerry and be happy with Beanpots and HE Championships. ;) :p

BC got a $5 MM anonymous gift to endow the coaching position

Impressive.

I don't want to sound like a moron, but what exactly does that mean? Endow the coaching position? Does it mean giving Coach York $5 million? Does it mean the money goes to his expenses (i.e. recruiting trips)? If someone could give a brief explaination it would be appreciated.

Eeek...Endowment is a financial term where the money is invested and the returns go into funding (In simple man's terms).

A real good CT kid

Avon Old Farms defenseman Colin Sullivan, a draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens, will join Boston College this coming fall.

A 6-foot-2, 180-pounder, Sullivan was a New England Prep All Star this past season. Before Avon, he played for Fairfield Prep in Connecticut, his home state.

Sullivan was previously committed to Yale but decommitted in January after the Yale coaching staff approached him about playing a year of junior hockey. Sullivan reportedly wanted to come in as a freshman in 2012.

I know of one who is gone for the year, making a great impact as the Rangers try to win the Cup. Go Rangers.
