Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

This is a great story for the assistant coaches and their strength as recruiters. There's a reason Jerry summoned Cav from Dartmouth in 1996(?). Cav, and now add Brownie to this compliment, has consistently developed relationships and evaluated talent better than any other assistants in the country, yet gets no press. Now that so many of their recruits are producing at the highest level, it cannot be ignored and is finally being recognized. Kudos to these unsung heroes to the program!

Jerry, Cav, Brownie...no fanboys at BC.

Cav has been around since the beginning of this run and has been the constant along with York. I do think Brown has done a tremendous job as well.

But Cav really should have a plaque on the Conte wall and be inducted into BC's HOF for his role in this incredible run. Now that Gene inducted himself in, he should have some time to work on this in between the smear campaigns against football coaches and players who realize him and his puppet Spaz are a joke.

ps - Kenny you still stink!

"Brownie" maybe... you are reaching on the other two (oh what a fanboy, they called the coach his preferred name rather than "Jeremiah" that is on his birth certificate!). I would have waited for something that was a lot more solid but given the low standards with BU people I'm not shocked you ran with this as fast as you could. Plus it's the offseason.

Nick, make no mistake about it though...Kenny IS our resident fanboy.

hmmm, my circle of friends would disagree:o:o:o

Somehow left out of the aforementioned articles was the ceaseless pressure felt at the Heights every season to keep pace with the stellar program down the avenue. ;)

all kidding aside i feel each program is aided by the competition between them

Chris Kreider of the Rangers had the 14th-most purchased jersey on shop.nhl.com for the month of April, only rookie in the top 20.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Shout out to the Men's and Women's Hockey teams for all taking part in the Race to Educate yesterday. The race raised more than $40K for St. Columbkille's Elementary School in Brighton. It was a great event for kids, as the players were accessible and autographed team posters all morning. Some of the players ran, others manned the bounce house full of kids, and others were on the course providing direction and encouragement. The event also had former Eagle and Boston Bruin Mike Mottau as the celebrity race starter. Another example of a championship program. It's days like these that make me proud to be a supporter. Very well run event and very impressive fundraising total!

Great news, saw some pictures looked like a good turnout.

The team has done a lot for that school.

Not sure where BC stands for defenseman next year, but if Marc Biega can't get past admissions at Harvard, I would expect him to strongly consider BC so long as there is room for him.

I think "The Kid" posted on EA, that Boston College is NOT recruiting Marc Biega. It surprised both me and him.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

What surprised me was that York thought playing Dyroff at D was a better option than Begert. Hopefully Begert is able to take a MacLeod-esque leap this summer

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

here's an excerpt:

If you weren’t going to play professional hockey, what would you be doing?

"I’d like to be involved as a coach or an administrator in college athletics, maybe one day working as an athletics director. It would be great to do that at BC. I think it would be rewarding to work with athletes and to work on the administrative side of college athletics."

you're hired Tommy!

it was certainly weird since dyroff wasnt even cracking the lineup at forward. usually the guys you move back to play defense are guys you trust the most (dolinar, boyle, whitney)

but i think the writing was on the wall that begert was only invited to campus to make straight feel more comfortable. even possibly to guarantee his arrival.

Re: Boston College Off-Season Thread: 2012 National Champions

Begert had a very long adjustment period last year in the BCHL and only started looking decent/comfortable towards the end of the season, but was still never considered a scholarship type player or top 6 D-man. With that being the case and with him being only 18, it was pretty unlikely that he was going to be able to step right in on day one and not look out of place. Dyroff may not be much better, but he'd at least played in several college games, was something like 3 years older and probably more physical/stronger. Neither one was going to be asked to do more than take a few shifts here and there and play a simple, safe, defensive game, so even though Dyroff is a forward, York probably just felt that with his experience and age, he was less of a liability.
