Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC seems to have risen to the #4 spot in the national rankings, which would mean a #1 seed for the NCAAs. Is that independent of what happens in the Hockey East Playoffs, or can they still move up or down?

The reason I ask is because if that #1 seed is solid already, then that means Worcester (and perhaps also North Dakota...which no doubt makes the Sioux sick). I would buy my tickets this weekend if this were a reasonably sure outcome. If not, I'll just wait.

while their seeding is not solid yet i can't imagine bc having to travel west in the ncaa tournament.... i understand "bracket integrity" but with more western schools (at the moment) in the ncaa tournament i would think the committee would want to do everything it can to keep bc in either worcester or albany (but especially worcester) to help with attendance.

....... also, i don't wanna see bc wind up in north dakota's bracket... wouldnt be quite as bad as denver's (that'd suck) and would be a competitive game but north dakota has looked pretty solid the past couple months outside of a game or two (same w/ bc i suppose) and would be a tough out just to get to detroit

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC is 5-2 over the last stretch with North Dakota. That being said, I'd throw out everything before 2007 since no one on the current team's were involved in the games before that. ND is probably not scared of anyone, same as Miami. But you can bet BC is in their heads a little bit.

BC win 1999 regionals
ND win 2000 finals
BC win 2001 finals
ND win 2005 regionals
BC win 2006 semifinals
BC win 2007 semifinals
BC win 2008 semifinals

thanks nick, i am a bit surprised it was that lopsided though since i WAS alive, i should have known:eek:

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Wow, that's really something if the case. Sure, Alber's looked good when given playing time, but Shea played all year and looked alright in the 26 games I watched - MUCH better and improved compared to his freshman year - BTW.
Never saw him as a liability out there this year. Maybe just didn't notice enough how good Alber played when given the opportunity. I did at least notice he was not a liability either.

If Alber is going to play for any of the regulars, I'd prefer it be for Wey. He's the slowest on the team and always seems to be playing catch-up with his stick when trying to wedge an attacker towards the boards away from the net - allows for extra maneuverability by the attacker, either with a pass or shot. He just makes me nervous, either that he'll get beat, a play will be able to further develop from his side, or he'll be called for hooking. Plus, as speed kills -- so does lack of it, generally speaking.

BrightonJohn, I really appreciate your point of view but think you are "way off about Wey". I actually think you will see his playing time increase as the cast comes off his right wrist(9 games) and his pulled groin(1 game) heal. His minutes are increasing...over 20 last two games, he and Phillip are getting matched against top lines of opposition whenever possible of late. He maybe their most physical player in front of net.

I would offer that club was 10-4-2 and leading Denver 2-0 when the kid went down in the game. Denver scored 4 unanswered goals in the third period against an exhausted defensive group to win...! Eagles during his absence was 6-4 and he was brought back early and has played with a cast since his return...! The Eagles are 5-2-1 with him back in the line up. I would not be so dumb as to attribute all of this to him as a player, I'm just suggesting as I have since day one that this is a team full of selfless players that really understand their roles! Guys like Lombardi, Price, Cross, Wey, Samuellson, etc. create the pathway for guys like Dumolin, Sneep, Gibbons, Hayes, Atkinson, and Krieder to be all they can be and need to be for this club to reach full potential!

This team is going far and every defensemen and forward on the roster will be needed to accomplish their goal of a national championship.
:)

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I think Wey has looked much better since coming back from his wrist injury. Early on, yes, he had trouble adjusting to the speed of the game. And when he came right back he took a few too many penalties. But after he got two or three games under his belt after the injury, he has looked pretty good.

How lucky we are that a concerning night includes 6 goals and a playoff win. :) Onward

well true, we are, but my confidence is a tad shaken after that performance.......if they come out and play well tonight then we can forget last night's ugliness. it seemed like a step backwards and the worst game they've played since when?? St. Lawrence?

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

It's looking extremely likely that BC and NoDak will be in the same region.

Which might mean that Worcester trumps the other three sites for attendance. Just having those two teams alone makes for a good draw for biased & unbiased college hockey fans alike.

I think UND will end up staying west depending on how the WCHA breaks down. Besides, I'm not afraid of the Sioux. They are good, but there are a lot of good teams out there.

Based on what? There are a trillion western teams in the dance right now, why would they screw with bracket integrity to send NoDak out west?

Code:
[B]Albany Worcester Fort Wayne	St. Paul[/B]
Denver Boston College Miami Wisconsin
St Cloud North Dakota Yale Bemidji
Cornell Ferris St UNH Alaska
CHA Champ UMD AHA Champ	NMU

Not jumping down your throat, I'm genuinely curious. I would like to not be in their bracket! haha

I'm not "scared" of them either, but I would like the easiest route to the Frozen Four - and that is in a bracket that doesn't include the top 3 and NoDak, who is currently on fire.

I agree. There are just too many western teams to keep them all out there. North Dakota, pretty high up there, could make a case to be 'kept out west' if they run the table in the WCHA. BC should be kept in the Northeast, even if they lose in the Hockey East Final (which I expect them to play in).

The NCAA will need something to make the DCU Center look 'full.' It holds 13,000+ for hockey, and I think that even the BEST four-team draw in that building attracts no more than 9,000. And even that may be generous.

The only local team that can make a case to be there is BC. I don't know if UNH can do better than Albany, even if they win the Hockey East Tournament.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

North Dakota just pantsed Minnesota last night in game one of a very hyped series. They definitely frighten me.

Let's see if BC looks a little less shaky tonight in front of Muse (presumably).

they are playing crazy good, the sioux.............watch out for michigan right now, check out the box last night in their game and also their last 3 games. young team putting it all together at right in time...........are we familiar with this?:)

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Worcester
Boston College
UHN
SCSU
CHA auto-bid

If UNH finishes 8th or 9th in the PWR, they aren't staying in Worcester. They'll be paired with the # 1 seed (Denver or Miami) out west. I think you may see Yale in this bracket instead of UNH.

I say this because I dont think UND will end up as the 5th PWR seed. They aren't good enough to win the WCHA so they likely have at least one loss in them before the season ends. I think Yale ends up in Worcester before UND. Just my guess.
