Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

5 year anniversary of your birth?
Looks like someone's jealous they didn't come up with the (completely applicable) nickname first.

Tony just wanted to remind you that your beloved Eagles lost to Maine this past weekend. I se BU as likely to beat them as well but in close games that could go either way. I think you are being a little bold trying to equate BC with Minny and Wisco, this does not appear to be the year that the West gives up the NCAA Championship Trophy.
It happens. Even the Bruins will lose to Winnipeg once in a while. The BC football team has a better chance of beating Florida State tomorrow (read: None) than bu has of coming within 5 goals of BC on aggregate through the weekend. Mark it down in maroon sharpie.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Really, really excited to head out to BC to watch this game tonight. I keep staring at the clock but it's not 5 yet...

It's going to be a good one. Hopefully Sunday was merely a trap game.

Really concerned that bc once again outshoots it's opponent by a 2 to 1 margin yet gets blasted on the scoreboard. Is the bc defense or goaltending that bad? And what is with just one goal. Is bu,s goaltending that good. Very disappointed with the result.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Tony T what happened, does this mean you are predicting an 8 goal victory on Saturday :-)

I actually think BU has the stronger line up this year and I expect them to continue to outperform BC. The Eagles in my opinion lost the most of any D1 team in net and offenseivly from last year. Also despite your opinion Poulin will help BU broaden the gap when she returns.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

I do think that BC has considerable upside; they have a lot of impact in their freshman class and both of their goaltenders are still rather inexperienced and rusty, so a large range of improvement can be anticipated. But the team D has to improve, because when a team gives up a goal every 4th, 5th, 6th shot, which has happened four times already, it takes a toll on the team's psyche.

Going into this game I actually thought BC defintely had the stronger lineup. Yes, we were playing without Poulin, but we were also, playing without Jenelle Kohanchuk (concussion), who is probably our 3rd best player and was really stepping up in Poulin's absence before she also got injured. I really liked the play of BU's D corps, definitely the strength of the team right now. And of course Sperry.

And BC fans shouldn't worry, it's way early in the season and you have a great team, one of the fastest Ive seen. Remember when you guys blew us out in the first game of the series last yr? Every game after was competitive and we ended up in the frozen four.

It's a strange change from years past with this team, but what I saw last night was BC controlling much of the game territorially, but producing a lot of weak/low shots that didn't really threaten the goalie. Meanwhile, our D was VERY susceptible to allowing breakouts and odd-man situations for BU, which they seem to really thrive on. Wakefield is even better than I remember her being from years past. As soon as she got that breakaway and rocketed one off the post and in on BU's first real chance of the game, you had to be a little worried that it wasn't our night.

It's weird because BC really thrived for years off of absorbing a lot of pressure but lethally destroying teams on odd-man rushes. We are more of a possession team now, and seem to be growing into it.

Win on Saturday and it's all good (not that that will be an easy task).

Going into the year, I did not expect to be competitive with BU. However, my expectations are raised by seeing the productivity of the freshman class. But when you rely on freshmen, you tend to go on spurts.

Positive note: #25 Young (jackie?) is becoming one of my favorite players to watch. She has a good shot and seems to be intelligent about when to release it. She's also strong on the puck. Her ability to hold the zone and set up plays was one of the few bright spots of the power play, which struggled generally last night.

Didn't see you there last night:( I thought the game was very entertaining to watch. I sat in my usual spot behind the net, and didn't see BC dominating for any longer time than BU, in fact, it seemed like they played a lot of the first 30 minutes in the neutral zone extended (to the end zone faceoff dots). I questioned the shot total at the end. I didn't think BC outshot BU by as great a margin, if at all, as the scoresheet says, and definitely not grade A's.

BC failed to convert on 2 5 on 3 situations, and if you ever have a chance to put marks on the board you have to do it then, especially against a team with the firepower of BU. Wakefield did a great job of containing Carpenter, and that made a huge contribution to BC's lack of attack. I thought Restuccia's line played well, and in the last 4 minutes BC did control the play, but it was too late. Like I said though, from a neutral viewpoint, that was a great game to watch.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Looks like BC had one of those games where they dominated an inferior opponent and the pucks just didn't bounce their way. It happens. Expecting a blowout win this weekend for the Eagles.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if BU folds their program in embarrassment after the shellacking BC lays on them. It's easy to overlook a garbage scummy team like BU when a game against a respectable program like Northeastern is on the horizon, so hopefully the girls are able to keep their focus on this game and beat BU as badly as they should instead of just by 4 or 5.

Should be a fun contest to watch, at least for those of us who attended school on the end of Comm Ave that doesn't constantly smell of rot.

I should be able to watch this one. Looking forward to seeing the tears of shame fill the eyes of the lady rat dogs as they slowly skate off the ice after getting annihilated by this year's women's hockey juggernaut. I can only hope the online feed is clear enough to be able to appreciate it properly.

Are you thinking something along the lines of this? :D

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

not totally sure what happened to the eagles on sunday in their 5 - 2 loss to maine. bc dominated in shots, but from what i could tell, maine seemed to have more quality opportunties and they definately capitalized on these shots. quite a performance by maine traveling all the way to bc for a single game and coming away with a solid victory. looks like maine and northeastern have stepped up in class thus far while providence and connecticut have not yet found their stride. others are about where i would have thought. should continue to make for an interesting season.

I was really surprised to see how Maine handled BC. I saw the Black Bears play Northeastern on Friday at the Alfond. Maine got down 3 - 0 to the Huskies but fought back late in the game to make it 3 - 2. NU had two power play goals which were huge. It's going to be a great season. NU has a good team.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

The Maine game was a goaltending issue which wasn't the problem yesterday. Yesterday was two things 1) all credit to BU for playing great and being much tougher on the puck and 2) seriously brain dead passes direct to BU players or to open space where a BU player was closest. Obviously I could not do better, but I did more cursing than normal at the game. Being beaten in a battle is fine; giving away the puck is not. At times noticed a few players, following one of those passes, trying to do everything herself which rarely works.

Tony perhaps you should stick to football predictions, BC performed to your expectations there

I just make the easy predictions. As for BU's monumental upset (the product of getting every lucky bounce in the arena), even the most rock-solid of picks is wrong once in a while.
