Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

fanny,

Don't get too ahead of yourself just yet!!! BC is only in 1st place by virtue of alphabet, as they niether lead NU in the GF or GA departments!!! Relax and see what the 2nd half of the season brings my friend..... Sit back and enjoy the Huntington Hounds Return to Their Days of Glory!!!!

Chip:cool:

Also, the pesky matter of the head-to-head tiebreaker...

Well, if Friday and Saturday isn't the biggest regular season home series in a while, I don't know what is. Not only is it huge for the PWR implications (this is BC's last chance to make a really bold PWR power move, unless Harvard moves up some more and we end up facing them), it's huge, mentally - if BC is truly a top 5 team, and I think they are, they should be able to defend home ice and take three points even against a very good Mercyhurst team. Let's get it started. We may well be seeing them at Conte a third time before this season is over. (knock on wood.)

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

another frustrating weekend for the eagles. win friday and then outshoot mercyhurst by 2 - 1 margin (50 - 25 shots) and lose in overtime. but at the break, the eagles have 13 wins and that is more than many anticipated. so thought it would be interesting to guess what coach kinger and kennedy are most thankful for and what they wish for during this holiday season. Here's my two cents:

Thankful For:
1. The contributions of freshman Carpenter, Fields and Pfalzer. Usually fresman do not make such a big contribution their first semester, but we are very happy with this exception.
2. The defense! Often holding teams to minimal amounts of shots and also contributing mightly on the offensive side.
3. The goaltending. Better than expected; particularly performing in the shadows of Ms. Schauss.

Wish For:
1. Offensive line chemistry. Other than the Carpenter line, things are very sporadic. Think a few changes in personnel and pairings are in order.
2. A power play strategy! No goals again all weekend on the power play, including two 5 - 3's speaks for itself.
3. A healthy team so that BC can earn its second consecutive Hockey East championship. Between kids playing with injuries, kids heaving during games due to the the flu and other things, the winter break will hopefully bring back a healthy team for the second half.

shots on goal 50-33 but everyone knows not all shots on goal are an actual threat...dump ins rarely are a scoring opportunity

Does anyone else think it's dumb that Mercyhurst's split with us bumped up their strength of schedule so much that it allowed them to JUMP US in the Pairwise?

Because I think it's dumb.

I would expect that, given Mercyhurst's "stronger" perceived schedule as the "underdog", the split meant a little more to them than the Eagles. You're the accountant - do the math:p

And it was great to see you and Joe back in action!

There could be other indirect factors. You played Maine three times, lost to them once, and Maine was tied by Union over the weekend. You both split with Quinnipiac, but you also played Princeton, and the Tigers were swept by the Bobcats. The "Q" wins helped both the Eagles and the Lakers, but the Tigers losses hurt only BC. UNH is another of your opponents that lost twice. MC has some of those as well. They played MSU, and the Mav's split with St. Cloud.

Or it could be that computers hate annoying "Let's go Eagles" chants.

While UNH is not faring as well as Wildcat Nation might hope, we are in a period of building strength. As such, we've had games of either overachieving or not meeting expectations for 60 minutes in a row. We have tied, and beaten some opponents who would likely prefer the game be forgotten. Given that we've lost games we "should" have won, the fact that we had draws against BC and Northeastern, and win against Dartmouth may, in the early going, hurt some others more than help us before the voting stops and the math takes over.

Meh. Was just looking at the schedule. Figures the one weekend during the season I'm going to be up in Boston there are no BC games

(Not this weekend, the last of Jan)

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Been a while since this thread saw any activity. After 1 period, Providence 1 BC 0. The usual summary, BC significantly outshoots their opponent (this time 14 - 4) has multiple excellent scoring opportunities; yet fails to capitalize. Providence has 1 quality shot on the power play which tickles the twine.

BC is in a great position to win out and capture the HE regular season with match ups versus Providence, UConn and VT while Northeastern has a bit more difficult task; including a future match up with Maine. Unfortunately with scoring a goal or two a game (regardless of the opponent) no games will be easy for BC. Still a bit left in the system for the Eagles to get their offensive act in gear. Thank goodness for the solid defense.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

After two, I think the score is Providence 3 and BC 2. You can only think because the video never pans to the scoreboard to show the score or time and Gametracker never works out of BC. Come on man; how friggin hard is it?? Regardless, if it is 3-2, it's kind of remarkable as BC was down 3-0 at one point before I stepped away for a bit. Providence played significantly better in the second and seemed to handle most of the play.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

yup, a 6-2 whipping. coach kinger really needs to consider benching her 2nd and 3rd line and giving others a chance. first line of carpenter/fields/motherwell at least just average (again), but the other two lines have been miserable. should check the water in chestnut hill because something has gone very wrong in the past few weeks. the -3 and -2 for many of the upperclasswomen, makes me believe a little sitting may get them motivated to earn their ice time. Will see what Tuesday brings vs Harvard.

Was the final 6-2 for PC?

The SID has been much better about tweeting during the game, follow @BCAthletics on game days

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012

Found it interesting to go back to June 2011 and review the first post from this thread. In many ways, BC addressed the concerns and exceeded many prognoticators predictions as to how far they would go this season. With significant contributions from many on the offense, a very solid defense, goaltending that exceeded expectations and a coaching combinations of Kinger/Kennedy that kept it all together, the team made it to its second consecutive Frozen Four appearance. Not many programs can make that claim. With solid recruits enroute as well as in the pipeline, the future continues to look bright for BC.

Congrats to the team for their continued success and good luck to the members of the senior class that provided many memorable moments throughout their very successful four years. It takes time to build a winning tradition and this group of young ladies contributed mightily to the success of the BC program.

After a herculean effort of winning the Beanpot Championship, the Hockey East Championship, reaching the Final 4 and finishing number 3 in the final rankings, the BC Eagles will enter the 2011-2012 season with lots of potential, but minus the services of Olympians Kelli Stack and Molly Schaus. BC looks to be very strong on defense, yet question marks exist between the pipes as well as how often their ever maturing forwards can put the puck in the net. An early season visit to UMD will be a test of the team's fortitude with a true indication regarding their ability to be depicted by their performance in Hockey East throughout the year. Another good recruiting year along with many solid players could make for another successful year in Chestnut Hill.[/QUOTE]
