Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

No. And there is no place in the rule that says the goalie has to play the puck, just that the puck has to batted towards him.

You are wrong. The rule says played to the goalkeeper, not batted towards. It also says that a puck that is played to the goal keeper in violation of the rule should be blown dead.. Passing it to yourself is never in violation of the rule! The violation is one player hand passing to his teammate to gain an advantage

They blew the call and tried to cover it up. Starman is a ccha homer with no integrity. Which is why he regurgitated the rule hook line and sinker

Outside of the defensive zone a player may use the hand to play the puck when the puck is on or off the ice. A player shall be permitted to stop or “bat” a puck in the air with the open hand, or push it along the ice with the hand, and a teammate may take control of the puck, unless each of the items below have occurred:
1. The puck was deliberately directed to a teammate;
2. This action allowed the offending team to gain an advantage; and
3. A teammate gains possession and control of the puck, either directly or when deflected off of any player or official.
When the puck is handled in violation of this rule by the attacking team directly to the goalkeeper, there shall be an immediate whistle.
A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. A player shall not catch the puck and skate with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over an opponent.

Any updates on the status of Patrick Wey? This will be the 5th week since his injury, with the initial timeline 6-8 weeks. Wonder if he's skating yet?

definitely looked questionable after that quick goal in the first, but he played well. great win - good to see that team respond in the 3rd, as if they utterly refused to go on a 3 game losing streak

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

huge gut-check win for our guys even though it's still November and the tying goal shorthanded to boot..........I thought Billet was excellent for his first game in that type of atmosphere and seemed really confident with the puck outside the crease . I didn't think this team was going to struggle to score goals especially after the way the season started but they are . The Yale feed was very good and the announcers really called a good, fair game IMO despite their allegiance to Yale ........it sure beat WBIM's at the UMass game and that was allegedly a TV broadcast.................the announcers also mentioned the great showing by BC fans "scooping up the tickets"....

Whew... that was nerve wracking.
That was a heck of a commute for a hockey game, but the win made it well worth it. :)

Some thoughts...
The Eagles worked their butts off all game and couldn't get one by Malcolm. Shot totals show 39 SOG, but I'll bet they had 50-55 good shot attempts. We looked to be snake bitten all game, until Carey's goal with 0:22 to go in the 2nd. Even in the 3rd, when BC dominated play, they couldn't hit pay dirt on some great chances until Almeida's shortie with 2:19 to go. Kreider's game winner with 0:39 to go was pure joy. :)

The 5 on 3 BC penalty kill with about 4:30 to go in the 2nd set the tone for the rest of the game. BC picked up their game from there and it seemed to take the wind out of Yale's sails.

The BC penalty kill with 3:15 to go looked like a BC PP. Desperate for the tying goal, they let it all hang out and created some great rushes, finally getting Almeida's game tying goal.

Billet looked good, and big, in net. He fills up a lot of net. Surprised we haven't seen him until now, given how he played. Maybe we'll see him and Milner split some games from here. Didn't see the first Yale goal (was late getting out of Frank Pepe's), but saw the 2nd. Not much he could do with that. A 2 on 1 rush for Yale and the puck carrier takes a bomb of a slap shot from 10 feet out. Tough to absorb that shot. Hell, tough to save it too. Just gotta hope it hits you, as opposed to somewhere on net where you ain't. ;)

Great to see Carey, Mullane & Almeida get on the board. Going to need these guys contributing for this team to be successful.

4th line… Smith-Sit-Linell. I like it. Sit and Linell are gonna light the lamp soon. These kids can skate with any line.

OK… who was that sitting beside me? I've got CRS and can't remember chit, although I remember meeting claver. Nice meeting you guys. You are good fans. :)

Same to you. I am thankful for our next football coach

Next year? You'll probably have to wait...

Actually, while the CCHA refs are just about the worst, they typically go to the review too much in my opinion. In this case, they didn't need to because rule 6.19 of the new edition of the NCAA hockey rule book states that if a player bats the puck to the opposing goaltender, the play is to be whistled dead. If you watch the replay, the ref is beginning to make the "hand pass" call and bring the whistle to his mouth just as Mike Johnson is trying to catch/stop/poke check the puck as the BC guy gets the puck on his stick and pass it. Based on the new rule, this was the correct call.

I said this before...I don't really care what the rule says or what anybody's interpretation of the rule is. The exact play that happened should never result in it not being a goal. If the rule has to be rewritten, so be it.
