Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread
I met you after the 1st period, albeit for a second as I ran into a friend from BC who I hadn't seen but it was Adam who you sat next to.
The 2 min 5 on 3 kill was definitely the turning point of the game. BC was flying after that.
Scoring has been an under the radar issue for several weeks for us. Would be nice to see the Gaudreau-Straight-Whitney line get on the score sheet a little more.
Agreed on the 4th line, they've made great improvements from the start of the year.
As for Billett, both goals were off rebounds, the first was pretty bad but didn't see any reason why it took so long to get him a start -but what do I know.
I think Shea has been very underrated especially during this time without Wey. MacLeod has improved from last year. Brooks didn't get a ton of time and there really is minimal "pairings" when they are cycling 5.5 dmen as Brooks is the only one not getting regularly cycled. They need Wey back cause Cross & Dumoulin have logged a sh*t ton of minutes. It'll be interesting to see how they react to the first back to back in a while on Saturday night.
Whew... that was nerve wracking.![]()
That was a heck of a commute for a hockey game, but the win made it well worth it.
Some thoughts...
The Eagles worked their butts off all game and couldn't get one by Malcolm. Shot totals show 39 SOG, but I'll bet they had 50-55 good shot attempts. We looked to be snake bitten all game, until Carey's goal with 0:22 to go in the 2nd. Even in the 3rd, when BC dominated play, they couldn't hit pay dirt on some great chances until Almeida's shortie with 2:19 to go. Kreider's game winner with 0:39 to go was pure joy.
The 5 on 3 BC penalty kill with about 4:30 to go in the 2nd set the tone for the rest of the game. BC picked up their game from there and it seemed to take the wind out of Yale's sails.
The BC penalty kill with 3:15 to go looked like a BC PP. Desperate for the tying goal, they let it all hang out and created some great rushes, finally getting Almeida's game tying goal.
Billet looked good, and big, in net. He fills up a lot of net. Surprised we haven't seen him until now, given how he played. Maybe we'll see him and Milner split some games from here. Didn't see the first Yale goal (was late getting out of Frank Pepe's), but saw the 2nd. Not much he could do with that. A 2 on 1 rush for Yale and the puck carrier takes a bomb of a slap shot from 10 feet out. Tough to absorb that shot. Hell, tough to save it too. Just gotta hope it hits you, as opposed to somewhere on net where you ain't.
Great to see Carey, Mullane & Almeida get on the board. Going to need these guys contributing for this team to be successful.
4th line… Smith-Sit-Linell. I like it. Sit and Linell are gonna light the lamp soon. These kids can skate with any line.
OK… who was that sitting beside me? I've got CRS and can't remember chit, although I remember meeting claver. Nice meeting you guys. You are good fans.![]()
