Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Whew... that was nerve wracking.
That was a heck of a commute for a hockey game, but the win made it well worth it. :)

Some thoughts...
The Eagles worked their butts off all game and couldn't get one by Malcolm. Shot totals show 39 SOG, but I'll bet they had 50-55 good shot attempts. We looked to be snake bitten all game, until Carey's goal with 0:22 to go in the 2nd. Even in the 3rd, when BC dominated play, they couldn't hit pay dirt on some great chances until Almeida's shortie with 2:19 to go. Kreider's game winner with 0:39 to go was pure joy. :)

The 5 on 3 BC penalty kill with about 4:30 to go in the 2nd set the tone for the rest of the game. BC picked up their game from there and it seemed to take the wind out of Yale's sails.

The BC penalty kill with 3:15 to go looked like a BC PP. Desperate for the tying goal, they let it all hang out and created some great rushes, finally getting Almeida's game tying goal.

Billet looked good, and big, in net. He fills up a lot of net. Surprised we haven't seen him until now, given how he played. Maybe we'll see him and Milner split some games from here. Didn't see the first Yale goal (was late getting out of Frank Pepe's), but saw the 2nd. Not much he could do with that. A 2 on 1 rush for Yale and the puck carrier takes a bomb of a slap shot from 10 feet out. Tough to absorb that shot. Hell, tough to save it too. Just gotta hope it hits you, as opposed to somewhere on net where you ain't. ;)

Great to see Carey, Mullane & Almeida get on the board. Going to need these guys contributing for this team to be successful.

4th line… Smith-Sit-Linell. I like it. Sit and Linell are gonna light the lamp soon. These kids can skate with any line.

OK… who was that sitting beside me? I've got CRS and can't remember chit, although I remember meeting claver. Nice meeting you guys. You are good fans. :)

I met you after the 1st period, albeit for a second as I ran into a friend from BC who I hadn't seen but it was Adam who you sat next to.

The 2 min 5 on 3 kill was definitely the turning point of the game. BC was flying after that.

Scoring has been an under the radar issue for several weeks for us. Would be nice to see the Gaudreau-Straight-Whitney line get on the score sheet a little more.

Agreed on the 4th line, they've made great improvements from the start of the year.

As for Billett, both goals were off rebounds, the first was pretty bad but didn't see any reason why it took so long to get him a start -but what do I know.

I think Shea has been very underrated especially during this time without Wey. MacLeod has improved from last year. Brooks didn't get a ton of time and there really is minimal "pairings" when they are cycling 5.5 dmen as Brooks is the only one not getting regularly cycled. They need Wey back cause Cross & Dumoulin have logged a sh*t ton of minutes. It'll be interesting to see how they react to the first back to back in a while on Saturday night.

That was me, nice to meet you FiveHole!

Hey Joegrav, you still owe this man a Frozen Four pin. I'll remind you again at the BU game.

Was a fan of what I saw on the ice. Billett looked good and the team really responded to killing off that 5-on-3. Not sure what to expect this weekend, but good to have a win rather than a losing streak coming into this next weekend.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

They're on an upward swing. Very encouraged by the last two efforts.

BU seems to have turned things around lately, so let's see how we currently stack up against them. If it's not any better than the last time, then I'll be a little worried.

Is it a certainty that Milner plays Friday?

Hey Adam... high fives all around.
I won't forget your name now, I hope. ;)

Don't bust on joegrav... it's all good.

I'm still a little concerned about the scoring deficiency, although it's not from a lack of effort or getting good chances. Malcolm was on his head at times Saturday. I was very impressed with the D against Yale. We really shut them down in our zone.

My guess is Milner. Will be interesting to see if they start a rotation. I have faith in whatever Jerry decides to do.

yeah, i had mentioned that i didnt think this team would struggle to score but they are...............i actually think we see Billett Friday but my predictions are never right. With BU seemingly playing well it should be a great couple of games.....

More like a great couple of wars. ;)

We've got to start getting some puck luck soon. Get 'em pretty, get 'em dirty or get 'em lucky... I don't give a hoot, it's all good. Hope it starts this weekend.

Go Eagles!

in fact, 9 goals scored in the last 5 games............4 more games before the break, BU, @BU, PC @ UML

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Did you guys see this? I know Gene isn't well loved on this board, and I think I can see why, based on this column. Thoughts?

I wasn't expecting much, but that was pretty well written with a lot of good points. Personally, I'm in the minority. I'm ok with giving Spaz another year. My understanding is this was a very young team. What has to stop is the chaos within the coaching staff. That needs to be the first priority. After all this, my main hope is that Gene isn't allowed to make the NEXT hire.

No, I hadn't seen that.....very disturbing indeed. I think they both need to go but it is sobering to say the least to think we are stuck with that condescending SOB for the long term. Mr. Gabelli, please help us

GDF and Spaz have to go for the program to come back. I gave up my season tickets and stopped my yearly donations to the FF. If that doesn't send a message then so be it. I feel bad for the players. You need someone like T.Coughlin to coach the team who's a good motivator, good recruiter, and game day coach. That 93' game where they knocked off ND was sweet. I saw that game on NCAA Classics the other day. David Gordon with that last second kick to beat ND was sweet. That team had Mamula, Foley, Mitchell, etc. on the team.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I'm hoping at least a split this weekend or 3 points with BU, then PC and Lowell to end the first half. If they can take 3 of 4, I would be satisfied with that. Then the GLI is coming up, where Michigan has really fallen down to .500 record. That was a fun tournament, I went once when BC played and the backup goalie won the games.

I guess my point is Gene shouldn't be allowed to fire Spaz. If anyone should be fired, it's Gene himself. And you let a new AD decide.

This makes sense. I'm assuming it's the president that has this authority?

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Posted this on the game thread...

I want to see the Terriers salute their fans at BC after a loss.
I would also like to see the Eagles salute their fans at BU after a win. (although I doubt Jerry would let that happen)

So... how about a crushing 'just for the hell of it' hit in the first minute? The 2 minute PK would be worth it.

Go Eagles!

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

My question is who on the team would deliver it? We have some scrappy, chippy players but not a ton that can lay the lumber. That open ice hit by Dumoulin several weeks ago was excellent.

I would like to see it be Kreider or Hayes. But Dumoulin or Cross would do the trick.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

5 on 5 BC is dominating the play. They have to keep getting pucks on the BU goalie.
